Althea's face softened slightly around the eyes when she heard his laugh. She loved his laugh. It was rich and it warmed her, like a bright light admist this chaos.

"Thank you."

She nodded at Aylitha. Well, that just made the situation a lot easier. Or more dangerous. But then, if the DA had planed to destroy them all, they would have done so. And she prefered a known enemy, over an unknown one.

"Then I have no problem to leave this to you. Let's head to a place where we can spectate?"

Zokora shook her head.

"It's not about being around a place associated with TUBA, but about what people will think. I don't want to betray Althea, by accepting your offer."

She picked up a stone, threw it angrily away, listened to it hit the street somewhere below.

"Nobody will ask, will care why I am there, one of us will be marked a traitor and I don't want to do this to you. I don't want to repay a kindness with something like that."

If it even was a kindness. But then she never knew. She thought it was kindness, leave the paranoia to others.

Mike smiled at, uncomfortable with repeating of his name, but at least it was a name. Looking up he saw three figures and when took a closer look his face fell.

"Wes. Seom. Tels."

He pointed at the figures and froze, when he understood.

"They are here. They came. They will kill all of us."

His voice shook from fear and his hand tightened around his knife.

"They came. They came."

He whispered unable to drag his eyes away. The Dark Alley, and it looked like they had been here for a while. But he'd missed it. Had been focused on Bella, on Wes, on - he'd allowed himself to get distracted. He'd missed the moment these had entered the stage.

Zokora took the hand and got to her feet. Her knees felt like jelly, but she still smiled gratefully. Elsecalling two people over that distance, it was something she'd never done before.

"Yes. That was my flat."

"I don't know what we should do now." Shaking her head she took another sweater, smiled when she that it wasn't damaged, only to turn it around and see a large hole in its back.

Grey wandered through the streets of Alleycity, enjoying his Cornetto. Despite his lack of a mouth, he still enjoyed the variety of flavors it provided. He was listening to more strains of Grieg, when a chuckle echoed through the street in front of him. It reverberated, drowning out even the music inside of his skull. Grey started. That was, that was terrible! No finesse, no style, nothing. Just a bland laugh for ambience. He’d never truly gotten into the evil laughs. Not having a mouth kind of cut off the opportunity, but even before then he had never been much of a laugher. It had never appealed to him. It seemed like a waste of breath. Why laugh when you can instead spend your words attacking your opponents belief system, or destroying their worldview. All this wasn’t to say that he wasn’t aware of the finer points of a good laugh. They had had seminars at the DA. PR had required it. You couldn’t have your reputation destroyed by a laugh like the one he had just heard. If a denizen was going to do an evil laugh, they were going to do the evilest of laughs.

Grey made a snap decision and turned toward the direction of the chuckle, breaking into a jog as he did so. It didn’t take him long to find the source. If the vaporized block hadn’t been evidence enough, the props from a 1950’s kaiju movie confirmed it. Obviously they weren’t the source of the sound. There several of them, and a villain with that kind of laugh wasn’t going to to hide among their henchman. That only left the blue makeup demo. He really needed a new wardrobe decorator. Someone with blue skin shouldn’t wear a robe. It made you look less like an intimidating villain out to take over your [insert various countries, towns, planets, galaxies, and cul-de-sacs here], and more like a smurf in his dad’s pajamas. The blue skin was honestly probably a mistake, another reason to fire the wardrobe director. And the stars. Well they were different. It was nice to see something different, stars were rather uncommon among the DA, seeing as they were associated more with the ceiling of a child’s bedroom then your average mad scientist. But it worked on the smurf. Maybe that was because the glowing stars contrasted nicely with black Shardblades and mouth. Overall though, the smurf was a run of the mill villain. Rather basic. Grey watched as he rushed someone in armor, tugged on his hat string, then paused for a moment to gather his thoughts.

“Hi,” He said into the smurf’s mind, “What’s up! I honestly don’t care. Anyway, can I ask, why do you have to chuckle so loud? Look, I get it, evil laughs are lovely and all. Not exactly my style, but when done right, it can really add to the mood, and I mean, while it is cliche, judging by the fire and such, laughing on an entrance is rather classy. But again, I have to say. Why so loud? A truly good evil chuckle, it doesn’t start loud. It starts quiet, almost a giggle. Let a few out, and then be silent for a few seconds, build up tension. Then when its nearly become awkward, start laughing, but at the volume you use when gossiping about someone and you want them to hear. Then crescendo. Build up the chuckles, adding layers, adding depth. Let it grow, but as it grows in volume, it will grow in size as well. Then before it gets bloated, cut it off. Leave it with an edge. You’ve gone from a whisper to a raised voice. That’s all you need. Now, if you need some examples of how to properly do it, there’s a few I can recommend. The Stranger for example, has got a wonderful laugh. He’s had centuries to practice, and trust me, they’ve payed off. If it gives you any idea, he’s the guy they use as an example in the powerpoint. Voidus, I think could work too, though as more of an example of understatement. You getting all this? I really think you ought to be taking notes. Let me know if you have any questions.”

Lord Ajax looked at him confused, his brow knotting. He raised a hand, ready to eradicate him, but stopped.

"My laugh?" His voice was loud, but not abnormally so.

Then his face hardened. He raised his hand, and division raced through the ground, destroying it on it's way to destroy Grey.

KanMien went through the DA storehouse, getting more ammunition. They shook their head, annoyed with having to withdraw because of something like that. Still, it would be good to get more, and besides, the army had gotten too close to their previous position. Finished they snapped their fingers, rearranging the alleys in front of them, depositing them on an empty floor in one of the skyscrapers in the city. They cut a hole in the glass, poking their sniper out of it, and placed an Alerter Fabrial next to them to warn them of anybody trying to sneak up on them. Just as they started watching the city again a lightshow appeared a few kilometers away.

A voice resounded through the city: "It's time to die." KanMien groaned at the volume of the sound. Shaking their head, they took aim at the man and chambered a round. "Couldn't agree more," they whispered. They tapped some Zinc, just enough make sure their aim was right, and fired at the man's center of mass. Their spikes still felt strange when used, after-effects from the storm. They wondered if it would help or hinder them.

A voice resounded through the city: "It's time to die." Aylitha looked up at the noise. Cradling her head as if to nurse a headache she sighed. "He realizes how corny that sounds, right?" She complained to Voidus and the Stranger. "Nevermind," she said, shaking her head. "Apparently he decided to make our job easier." The bridge behind her trembled, six large birds of prey rising up out of the moss. They flew away, moving in the direction of Lord Ajax, trying to get more information.

From high in the sky the birds spotted them, a large strange being in the center, with six armored soldiers around him. They dove down, aiming for the center figure.

Aylitha looked into the air, eyes unfocused. "Found him," she muttered. "Six other soldiers present as well, wearing power armor. Most don't look human. One flier, one molluscoid, one walking arsenal, a demented imitation of a clown, and two human types. Abilities are unknown." She looked back at the horde of monsters standing at the shore. "I'll deal with crowd control, you two can deal with the big guy."

@Voidus, @Fatebreaker

Lord Ajax looked up, and looked down. The birds fell out of the sky, soulcast to stone, cracking on the ground.

The Stranger held Voidus's gaze, feeling the weight of his wrath. Aflood held back by a dam of glass. And the glass was cracking.

But then there he took a breath, and the avalanche became a glacier. Frozen, motionless, but no ness in magnitude. The Stranger watched Voidus's eyes clear. A small, but crucial victory. But the weariness that had precededthe rage seemed to have grown, a shadow that the sun could not banish.

I heard a saying once." Voidus said softly. "On one of the other worlds. 'Death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain.'"

The Stranger looked the the Behemoth, a literal mountain of destruction they had created. The irony was not lost on him.

"What does that say for those of us who can't die? When does that duty let up?"

The Stranger opened his mouth to reply, but for the first time in a long, long time he didn't know what to say. Voidus turned and walked away, and all he could do was look after him.

'When does that duty let up?' Why would it ever let up, when there's always more research? We achieved eternity, so that any idea could be tested, any study undertaken. We've pioneered more Scientific breakthroughs than anyone else in the history of time! Eternity was an achievement, a privilege!

So why did Voidus view it as a curse?

The Stranger pulled a narrow spike in a bloodvial from his coat and looked at it. He vaugely registed Aylitha walking away with Voidus, but he stayed looking at the spike. It was copper, and he hadn't had it in for centuries. It held memories, but they were the memories of someone else. Someone he had been once long ago, someone who had beem limited by the laws of physics and his own mortality. Someone all too familiar with loss. With Sacrifice.

Now is not the time for melancholic nostalgia. I'm going to let off some steam by teaching an upstart the meaning of pain, then maybe I'll indulge in some introspection. But only after a thorough dissection.

The Stranger was no longer grinning. He put the vial back in his coat and followed Voidus, his steps and heart heavy. He walked slowly eye distant. But then an explosion rocked through the air, undoubtedly Ajax on his infantile rampage. The Stranger stopped, and felt the hint of a smirk take hold. He begam striding forward, and with each step the grin grew. The pavement began to crack beneath his feet, and his Shroud of Souls began to emanate from him, the wails faint, yet decidedly audible. His feet left the pavement, and he was walking through the air, moving faster and faster with no discernible effort. He passed Voidus and without looking spoke to him.

"The final blow is yours."

Then he rose into the sky and spoke in a voice that wove through the air, reaching every corner of the city. It was cold and hungry and ageless.

"Where is this insolent child who would learn the meaning of Fear? Come forth, child of folly, that all may see how paltry a god you are. Come forth and do your utmost to die with your dignity, what little remains. COME."

Lord Ajax paused, from where he stood, about to transform the rooftop.

He grinned. Finally, a real challenge.

His voice rang out, through the city at the same volume. Where the Stranger's voice was cold, it was full of anger, emotion. Where the Stranger's voice was ageless, it was far too human, the voice of someone you could befriend. But hunger? It had it. And far more then the Stranger's voice did.

"Fear.... such an interesting word." A large building underneath the Stranger disappeared, turning to smoke, and two women, four men, and a child fell to their dooms. "They felt fear as they fell." In the air, for a second, fire appeared, showing a skull. "That would inspire fear in some." He rose into the air, at the Stranger's level. "And I? I will show you exactly what that fear you speak of is."

His robe disappeared, becoming smoke, revealing the glinting obsidian black armor, along with the firelike swords.

He spoke quietly, but it traveled across the space. "I'll allow you the first blow."

The six of the Conqueror team split up the moment Ajax was gone. Ivan and Alexander headed for the rooftop, Ivan picking up Alexander and flying them.Genghis, huge muscles bulging, ran for a nearby building, smashing it down. He did this, building after building, crushing anyone he saw, quickly destroying a block. Attila did the same with his arsenal, blasting down buildings in the other direction. Caligula and Nero walked toward a building nearby, where they knew there was a sizeable amount of people for Nero to take.

So, two points.

First of all, is there any reaction to KanMien firing at Lord Ajax with a sniper? She's using explosive armor piercing rounds, so they won't just bounce off. (Personal suggestion, have him notice them through steelsight and push them away. The range is large enough the bullets take a few seconss to reach him, so he could notice them, and pushing will trigger the explosive charge, creating a nice,  small explosion a distance away from him)

Second, Aylitha is sending a bunch of hijacked/home-made creatures after the conquerors, any reaction to that?

"Honestly, I'd suggest just getting to a high place and watch the fireworks, it should be fun."

***

Aylitha looked up when Mac arrived, smiling at him. She shook her head as the Stranger flew off. He really shouldn't be doing that when dealing with an unknown enemy. Always gather as much information as possible first. Still, she understood why he was doing it. Sometimes it is satisfying to just crush an enemy, without even bothering to plan, without bothering to take them serious. Well, she thought, at least it will give some information.

She jumped up to the roof of a nearby building, and looked down at the streets below. Moss spread beneath her, eating away at the building, giving her more material, and she smiled. Snapping her fingers her creatures rushed forwards, running at the soldiers in power armor still on the ground. Strange birds with bone-white claws and purple eyes rose out of the moss around her, launching themselves at the flying soldier. She giggled at the irony involved. Bugs swarmed around in the skies, watching what was happening below, helping her steer her army. The giggle grew to a laughter, one echoed by all the creatures attacking, all sounds distorting and overlapping into a giant cacophony.

@RayOfSunshine

Lord Ajax steelpushed the bullets away with incredible force, blasting them into walls where they exploded.

The creatures were crushed, by them, demolished, squished, ripped to pieces, any number of ways destroying them. In the end, five were left. Nero wrapped it's arms around them, releasing the zombie fungus.

A large building underneath the Stranger disappeared, turning to smoke, and two women, four men, and a child fell to their dooms.

Rusts and Ruin, Mac reached out with the alleys, instinctively calling them toward where the people would land, and right as they were about to hit the ground, they were warped into an alley. Quickly, Mac shoved alleys aside to create a safe path to the more real world. Why would he attempt to kill 7 Innocent people? He didn't even destroy to make a valuable point, he just destroyed to make conversation. He was the epiphany of everything Mac despised. Not even worthy to be given a show.

He longes to reach out with the alleys, and warp every cell of his body to a different place. Or to warp an essence spike through him, stealing his soul and letting it slowly decay on its path to the beyond, never fully making it, always stuck in between two places for the rest of time.

Such a fate was what was deserved by Ajax.

Mac felt a certain familiarity as he moved the alleys into position. He remembered when he had done this before. Placing the alleys so that the man would never see his killer. So that he would suffer and feel every ounce of pain that he caused them.

He placed an essence spike at the start of the alleys. As it fell through each consecutive alley it would accelerate, building speed until it warped into a carefully placed alley in his chest cavity. If Mac was careful enough, its velocity would place it right at the bind point, and remove Ajax's soul in one blow.

Right before he let the spike go, the memory returned, stronger.

Mac remembered the look of shock on the man's face as a metal spike moving hundreds of miles per hour smashed into his chest, and he remembered elsecalling into the Cognitive realm so he could watch as the soul of the man slowly decayed away. He remembered listening to his screams, and watching as the man struggled to escape the spike his soul had been attached to.

Then he vividly remembered the lack of satisfaction he felt. He thought, incorrectly, that it was because he wasn't strong enough yet. He thought it was because he didn't completely destroy the soul, and only imprisoned it, and that he killed him from a distance, without showing him who killed him.

But this time as he relieved it, he realized that it wasn't because he wasn't powerful enough. It was because it never brought her back. The first person he met in this world. The person who showed him love as only a mother could. He didn't feel satisfied because he was too late. By the time he killed the man, he didn't kill him to save her, he killed him in revenge. And he had forgotten why he tried to gain the power.

This time he would not.

He warped the unused essence spike away, slid the spike back into his shirt, and let the alleys go.

Last time I tried to stop someone like Ajax, I was too late. This time I'm not. I won't kill to destroy, or seek revenge, I will kill to protect those who can't protect themselves.

Mac looked around, seeing the buildings that were closest to them. Despite their evacuation efforts, they were still full of  people. People who had done nothing to deserve this. People who's parents and grandparents came to the alleyverse for the Utopia that he promised.

They couldn't help themselves, so like his Mother once did to him, Mac did his best to help them.

He carefully started to take the alleys and place them in between objects around the battlefield, forming a protective dome. Whether it was two columns, or two air molecules, when something tried to go through those alleys, they would be warped away. Then he waited for Ajax to attack. To hurt and destroy more innocent lives. To make Mac want to kill him even more.

Tels looked in the direction that Mike seemed to be looking. There he saw three men. Except... these weren't men. Even from this distance, Tels could tell that these... beings... were something beyond men. They radiated power, and had an air of authority around them. One of them had to be Voidus, but Tels couldn't tell which one was, or who the other two were for that matter. But for the moment, they seemed to want to fight Ajax, and that meant that he wouldn't go for Tels and the others.

Mike began to whisper, fear and worry clearly carrying through despite the low volume. "They are here. They came. They will kill us all. They came. They came." he said simply, but ominously.

Tels turned to Mike looking him in the eyes. "Yes, they've come, for the better or the worse. We'll find out soon enough. It looks like they're here to fight Ajax, and considering that these are gods that are about to fight, I suggest that we leave. Conqueror 4, Caligula

Dark blue armor. Emotional allomancy, zinc and brass, extremely strong. Can produce any range of hormones for human or singer biology, letting it control more precisely. The ability to make illusions. Physically shaped like a human, but with arms and legs composed of wires tangled together, and no eyes.

Neil watched the battle with a sense of detachment. These were beings aeons beyond his limited power, beings that could level cities with barely a thought.

Weak.
The thought startled him. Where had that come from? He fiddled with the ring on his left hand, trying to recall just what memory had triggered such a conception.
His thoughts were interrupted by movement in the battle. The six... creatures surrounding the leader had split up and begun going in different directions. Two of them- one in black, one in blue- were heading straight towards Neil and the others.
He leapt to his feet, reaching out his hand for Daa. "Enemies coming!" he cried.

“That makes sense,” Deteca agreed softly. “A lot of people act like their guild, if they have one, contains the only good people in the Alleyverse and associating with anybody else is a crime.” She picked up a rock that had been next to the one Zokora had just thrown and hefted it in her hand, studying it. “I can’t say I think every guild is packed with perfectly moral individuals, because they’re not. Not even my own.” It hurt forcing that out, but she did it, watching Neil to see if he’d look at her strangely, but he seemed immersed in his own thoughts.

She traced a thumb over a groove in the stone, trying to block out the sounds of buildings collapsing around her. “Sometimes...” She trailed off, then shook her head. That might be going too far. Especially with a woman she’d only just met today, regardless of who she was or what Deteca thought of her. Besides, it was highly likely that Zokora thought her rambling right now was weird. She threw the rock underhand as far as she could, seeing it collide into the side of a broken timber.

“Enemies coming!” Neil yelled, and she looked up. Even as her numbness slowly wore off, even as she gradually warmed up, Deteca was starting to feel exhaustion hit her. It had been a long time without sleep.

She gave the approaching foes one look and then looked at Zokora. “Can we just...leave?” Back at Neil and his seon. “I can’t fight anything right now, much less those. I don’t know about you, but...” She sighed. “Honestly, I just want to let the Dark Alley take over the war for a bit. Or until it’s over and they - we - win.”

The Stranger in my headcanon: I’m afraid you’re mistaken, this will actually be the last.

Mac is murdering my emotions right now, ahhhhh.

Glad you got back, Ark. Can you answer the questions in the PM?

Also, the above is totally avoiding a fight, I’m not ashamed to admit it because Deteca has had her climax for this plot and literally can do nothing, she’s worse than an NPC right now. Zokora doesn’t want to risk her spren and Sorana has so far been fine with this, so just by the way, I don’t know about Neil, but I don’t think the two of us are probably not fighting these things, at least.

Tels turned to Mike looking him in the eyes. "Yes, they've come, for the better or the worse. We'll find out soon enough. It looks like they're here to fight Ajax, and considering that these are gods that are about to fight, I suggest that we leave. Now!Tels said, the last note of panic edging into his voice as the six people that had surrounded Ajax suddenly split, darting in opposite directions, destroying any buildings in their paths.

"Leave. Yes."

Mike looked up at him, and then grabbed Wes arm.

"Wes, Tels says we need to go."

He said slightly mechanically, tore his eyes away from the gods. Seom. She was here as well. He wasn't entirely sure, when she'd arrived, but in the end it didn't matter. Getting to his feet he looked at her.

"They are here."

He whispered again stared at the figures. The room, the animals. That man, woman, he couldn't even remember. Only the face. That cold face with the hard eyes. The smell of the antiseptic, the straps around his arms.

"I can't, not with them here. What if they are here as well, want to take me. I don't want to go back. I can't, I can't."

Mike's hand brushed over his spikes again and again and again. They were here. They were his nightmare, his nemesis. They were like the darkest place at night, like the monster hiding under the bed. He had no words to describe them, nothing but the unknown terror that filled him. If he saw them, they could see him. And even the outlines of their bodies were more than he'd ever wanted to see or know.

@I think I am here.

=======================

Zokora jumped to her feet and stared at the two figures. They were coming for them. Fight them. She readied her knifes, inhaled stormlight. It would be a hard fight. Deteca was in no shape to fight and she didn't about Neil. To face them both on her own account, she doubted she could make a stand. Then Deteca spoke up, asked about leaving. Zokora was almost ashamed about the pang of relief that, followed her words. An easy way to get out. To flee. To survive.

"If you want to leave, of course. My offer to get you out still stands."

She nodded at Deteca. Turning to Neil she offered both of them her hands.

"Do you have a preference where to go?"

She asked and then looked back at the enemies coming closer.

"Can we risk it? To leave? To let them run rampage?"

Could they? Count on the DA to take care of them as well? They would most likely. But when and how? She didn't want to rely on the DA. Not like this. Not completely. It felt wrong. But then, she had offered Deteca her protection, and she wasn't trained in an open fight. Risk to be killed for nothing? When those able to solve the situation were already there? There was no good decision, no easy answer, there never was, at least for her. The thought to leave, to go away was alluring. A few hours without her ghosts.

Ark, could you please tell me exactly which of Ajax officers (?) is heading where? Like who is heading Mike, who to Zokora and who to Althea? They are all in different places and I'm not entirely sure about who is where except for the two heading towards Zokora.

What, you didn’t think that I was going to let Voidus and Fatebreaker have all the fun, did you?

Ark, for the sake of a good fight, I’m going to assume the conquers are all outside Ajax’s good field.

Edit: I missed something. I’m attacking Ganghas, and I actually don’t know where he is.

Jackal came out from a building and through his staff straight at Ganghas’s head.

Deteca took her hand. “Thank you. And maybe out of Alleycity would be better?” She stared down at the insanity below. “I don’t know what the DA will do, but...they won’t completely destroy the city, I don’t think.” She thought back to her argument with them - had that really only been a handful of hours ago? - and winced.

Zokora took her hand and then closed her eyes. Flee. She was going to flee. And somehow, the thought was alright. Deteca had a point, and she'd offered her protection. Let duty be for someone else. She would follow her instinct. Sera moved sliggtly up and down, showing her agreement. There weren't ones for an open battle. In the dark, without eyes watching them, yes, that was different. There was only one place outside of Alleycity, that she could think of, that might be safe. She pictured the gates, the forcefield and then she nodded.

"Yes, out of Alleycity."

She tightened her hand around Deteca's, smiled at her. In the end, she was right, and Althea was still here. Quickly she sent her a message, informing her that she would get Deteca to safety, but that she could still monitor their troops if needed.

Turning to Neil, she waited for his decision as well.

The Stranger sighed. Here he was, hoping things would be interesting, and the upstart wanted to give him the first blow? The lack of respect was horrendous. How had someone this oblivious made it thus far? Very well, time to give him a wake up call. The Stranger's grin was filled with condescension as he replied

"Oh you young people, gain a few shiny new powers and think yourself a god. Well trust me laddie, you wouldn't make it through the first piece of paperwork."

He gestured to the destruction Ajax and his goons had caused.

"Do you think this impresses us? Child, you really have no idea just whom you are dealing with. You deign to give me the first blow? Time's Teeth but you're a foolish one. Oh well, guess there's nothing for it then. I have but one question for you..."

He reached into his coat and the smell of freshly baked goods wafted through the air, diffusing throughout the city. He pulled out what looked like the perfect chocolate chip cookie, warm and soft and fragrant. It was a thing of Beauty. Then it seemed to disappear.

The Stranger had moved so fast he broke the sound barrier, creating an explosive sonic boom. He rocketed straight towards Ajax, but the instant before impact he drew the aon Tia and vanished, reappearing underneath him.

"Would you like a cookie?"

As he flew upward he grabbed Ajax by the back of the neck and dragged him higher into the sky, then flung him like a ragdoll, snapping his neck with a flick of the wrist. It was a spiteful move, as he doubted it would actually kill him. If it did they had really overestimated him.

"I don't have time to waste on your juvenile displays," he chided, "please try to amuse me, or Voidus will hit me with that 'I told you we were wasting time' look and I hate it when he does that."

Neil merged with Daa, energy returning in a flood of Investiture. "Sounds good," he said. "I don't think I'd stand a chance against any of those... whatever they are."
