“I haven’t forgotten anything,” Cassie whispered. Have I? Would I know if I had? I can still remember my past, including everything that’s happened to me since I learned about Radiants and since I became one.

James looked her square in the eyes, a blend of determination and compassion contained therein. "And I'll make sure you don't" He said, somewhat fiercely

Shana nodded.

"Me too. And if I have to set the world aflame to do that."

She said fiercely, hugged Cassie closer.

Cassie closed her eyes and tried not to sob. “Thank you,” she whispered.

Shana nodded and reached out for James with one hand, not letting go of Cassie.

"He's right." She whispered, because James had voiced what she had felt. "We are a family. And we will stand together."

Stand together. Strength before weakness...Cassie blinked back more tears. I disobeyed a different part of my oath, not that part, but it’s still part of the First Ideal. “Okay.” She looked up at them. “Okay.”

James took Shana's hand, and smiled at Cassie. "We'll make it through this"

Shana smiled at them, finally slowly stepped back from Cassie.
"Are you a bit better now, a little bit at least?"
She asked her, her fingers fightening around James, glad that he was here.

“Better?” She shook her head with a laugh, but the laugh was manic and she ducked her head down again. “I’m a murderer. Or a manslaughterer or whatever. I don’t think I’ll ever be better.”

Shana nodded wordlessly and resumed hugging her.
"You aren't the only murderer here."
She whispered quietly, held on to her friend.

“Self-defense is different,” Cassie said instantly. “You can’t blame yourself for protecting people.” Not like me. I meant to protect, but I only killed.

"They didn't attack me." Tiredly Shana closed her eyes, rested her head against Cassie's.

"You asked for the powers to protect to fight, there is no difference here." She continued to hold on to James, wished suddenly that he would hug the two of them. That Ben was here. But as tired as he had been, Ben was most likely asleep again.

"I don't want to discuss who is the worst person, to be honest. I want to help you." She paused, then added slightly stressed. "I need to organize a freaking weeking. And I don't even know what you need when you get married. Everything else, will have to wait."

If she messed that up, no it wasn't an option. She had to get that one right, had to offer her friends a day they would never forgot. But still there was this quiet voice in her head, that wished that they had chosen another day. A day, when she hadn't killed not even twenty-four-hours earlier, a day without Cassie on the verge of breakdown. A day when she wouldn't have to appear wearing jeans, because she had nothing else.

“A wedding,” Cass muttered. “Oh, that’s right. Jason and Ax are getting married...” They seemed too young for it, but they were technically of legal age. She forced her thoughts away and onto a new subject with a ferocity that surprised her; she didn’t want to think about this anymore. “Um, food. You need lots of food for a wedding. And, like, decorations...did they give you a color scheme?”

"Nothing. Leona will do the cake I think. We should talk to her as well, Jason asked her as well."

Shana sighed again.

"We need a band, a location, flowers, decorations, rings, food, plates, tables, stools, candles -"

She stopped when she realized her voice had risen, then continued more quietly.

"We have a few hours, until the afternoon. I have no idea how to do that. I want to offer them the best day of their lifes, but it's just so much to organize."

Jamie was dead tired, and was still asleep. She'd been detained for a bit longer than the others, but had managed to call her parents' lawyer in DC and given him a quick rundown of the situation. He'd talked the police out of locking her up for a while, but her troubles didn't end there. She also had to go get her, or rather Doc's motorcycle out of impound, and ride it back home.

Doc slid off the roof and hit the ground. He stood there for a moment, then picked himself up and walked into the kitchen, confused as to what was going on at the moment

“But, the more I got to know about it, I reached a revelation,” he breathed in stormlight and used the surge of tension on the pool water, keeping the surface tension strong and solid, so when Rob lowered his leg and stepped onto it, his foot stopped directly at the surface of the water. He raised his arms and walked further, literally walking on water.

“That maybe Jesus was a Radiant.”

Doc walked into the kitchen, and she bit her lip hard. “Hi,” she said to him quietly.

"That's a theory I haven't heard before." Ashlyn says, "So you can somehow strengthen the surface tension of the water. What else can you do with that?"

“So,” said Thade coldy. “You failed.”

His penetrating gaze made Sheln squirm. This isn’t right. “We ran into… unexpected difficulties,”  he explained.

Thade said nothing, arms folded.

Sheln shifted uncomfortably in his chair. “The Seedbound proved less… amenable than we expected-”

Thade snorted. “Hardly a surprise. Seedbound don’t listen to anyone.”

Sheln bristled, (Interrupting me. A full singer!) but continued. “-and the targets proved more capable than we had hoped.” 

The corners of Thade’s mouth turned up in what could have been a smile. “So you got beat by a couple of kids, is that right?”

Sheln gritted his teeth. Thade was his friend, true, but this was going too far. “On the bright side, no one on the Council suspects you were involved in the attack. You have made your opinions on the Seedbound clear.”

“A plus, I suppose,” said Thade in the same frigid tone, “but the approval of the Council will hardly get us Radiants. Which, if you will recall, my plan requires.”

Sheln hesitated. “There may be something,” he said slowly. “Some Enlightened in the city are tired of waiting for the Council. With some… influence, they could potentially be persuaded to help…”

Thade mused on that for a moment. Then he smiled. “A good plan. Very clever, Sheln.” He turned to leave, opening the door and stepping through. “The car will arrive at seven tommorrow morning. Make sure you set your alarm…” He chuckled. “Farewell, Sheln.”

Sheln’s mouth opened, a protest already on his lips, but Thade was already gone. A feeling of dread crept over him as he considered what Thade had said. Go to Seattle? Me? He shuddered. No. He would refuse. Thade was only Fourth Fusion; Sheln outranked him.

Only… did he? No Enlightened had ever bonded an Unmade before Thade. Sheln knew little of the human bonds, but from what he understood those with a bond to the greatest spren led, regardless of the bond’s strength.

We must change if we are going to survive, he thought with resignation, and set his alarm to six thirty.
