I will be happy to toss another one in the ring. I have to finish with the new guy first, though.

We have encountered another Sunday, which means that unless something weird happens with the local space/time continuum, there will be another Monday soon -- specifically 01/05/26. Are we good for a continuation at said time?

Despite the best efforts of physicists (I remember reading an article a while back about how some physicists want to get rid of it; it's a thing, I feel another short story idea looming!) we are good to assume another Monday very soon ;)

I'll mark myself down early as wanting to submit for next week. I have a bit of an unorthodox submission where I'm submitting a long short story across two weeks, so I'm recommending that people hold off critiquing until I send the second half the week after next.

Monday is coming. Under most circumstances that is much worse than Winter is Coming, but here it's a good thing. We good for 1/12/26?

Winter is here where I am at the Canadian Labour Congress winter school 😂 @Paul SB and @Appol PhD for tomorrow.

Sounds chilly to me. I grew up in Colorado, so I've had my share of cold, blizzard-filled winters. But with Gestapo thugs shooting random people here, I'd be willing to put up with the cold ...

Things are definitely more convivial here, though sadly if I don't know they will stay much better for much longer...

On another note, the location of CLC's winter school (Harrison Hot Springs, BC) was actually warmer than my hometown! I did get my share of chilly, though. I maaaaaay have accidentally instigated a polar bear plunge.

The polar bear plunge instigation sounds like it could become a fun scene in a story.

Potentially! It really started with an offhand remark and then snowballed from there 😅 originally I was thinking I was just going to stick my feet in, the next thing I know there are like seven of us doing a full polar-bear plunge.

Sounds good! Any other takers for tomorrow?

And you lived to tell the tale. I was just thinking that since Portland had its frogs, Minneapolis could use some polar bears, or maybe penguins. I would like to add a chapter tomorrow, if popsicle.

I've been to Minneapolis (for a Writing Excuses retreat, no less) and I'm not convinced polar bears would appreciate the humidity 🤣

You're good to submit, but don't think I didn't notice your popsicle pun ;)

Danke schön!

I took a couple semesters of German when I was an undergrad, and when the professor wasn't listening we liked to say donkey shorts and answer it with bitter shoes. Believe it or not, that's an actual method used to help beginners learn foreign vocabulary. The guy who created it taught the Hebrew word for tent (ahem) with, "Ah hell, there's a skunk in my tent!" American military in Japan are taught to say already got toes for arigato, and don't touch my mustache for do etashi mashte. I used it to help kids with vocab in biology and anatomy, since it's like a foreign language. We used to have contests to see who could come up with the best one, which usually meant the funniest.

I didn't know this! Makes a lot of sense, though, when you think about it.

Minor autocorrect mistake: the Hebrew word for tent is ahel, not ahem.

Tomorrow (2/02/26)?

So noted!

Yes, please do.

Am I the only one left posting here? 2/09/26 is another Monday, and it's kind of lonely in here.

Please post!

I continue inching along on my own piece--back half of the story now--and can always throw it into the mix when I'm done. Once it's done I'm letting myself get back into critiquing action too.
