I’m sorry Ene. Would you be more happy if I told you that Ark was staying the night and I was kind of scared to vote against him when he was in a position to literally kill me in my sleep?

I just think it will be fun. It lets us play around with what could have been. If we had rpd our characters slightly differently at one point, if a detail of their backstory was changed, how would that affect them, how would their character change with different powers, and honestly my personal favorite, this is a way to do really interesting revives. Also it seems like one of the few main plots where everyone will have a lasting effect from it. I know the current main plot is doing stuff like that, but to my knowledge the only way Melody will be affected is through how Walker is affected, to put it one way. Also, it let’s us put characters on pause more effectively. As in, nowadays, if a character is temporarily retired, so we can free up character slots, or maybe you just want to rp something different, you then have to figure out what their doing, or kill them, and res them later. With this, history changes so they aren’t on the Alleyverse for that era, and then their back at the end.

In addition, though this is a more personal thing, it allows us to mess around with the worst case scenario with our creations, without actually doing them. Like, I have a really cool idea for the Citadel, where it got destroyed, and is now a massive scrap civilization. I intend to have a background plot going on with this, if enough people want to participate. This also works for other people to a lesser extent as well however. Like, if your character is mildly depressed, and has a slight drinking problem, you could plunge them fully into a depressed alcoholic stupor, or the inverse.

You can mess with morals, experiment with investitures, and essentially do whatever you want, for an era, then keep what you like and discard what you don’t. The possibilities are endless!

ps. If the scrap city thing sounds interesting, pm me. I’ll release more details as the build up grows.

Edit: Oh, Dapper now that I’m re-reading your post I have a new point: I’m almost definitely sure the universe will go back to the way it was, in case you were confused about that.

Hello! I’ve been percolating a few ideas for a bit and I decided to throw my hat in the ring for an Era 4 main plot. This is something I’d love to have feedback and collaboration on, if people like the idea. Here is the general premise:

After the events of Era 3, the city is going to be in a state of disrepair with a lot of people out of work. To help get the city back on its feet, a public works project is proposed: an Alleycity subway system. With a brand new deep crater and canyon outside the city (:P) the starting point of excavation has already been done! The plan is to begin digging beneath the TUBA tunnels.

When excavation begins, it is revealed that there is an elaborate and complex system of natural caves, caverns and tunnels running beneath the city, and these need to be explored and mapped before the system can be built. What is found down there is definitely open to suggestion and interpretation, there are lots of ways that could go.

What I enjoy about this idea is that something like this would affect the city at every level. Should someone want to, the issue could be argued in the government, it could spin off a criminal embezzlement/activity route based on project funds, and then of course the people down there working or scouting or whatnot. Lots of options. I have a few conflicts and points of interest that I cooked up to be found down there but I’m not married to any of them. I’d love for people to be involved in deciding what direction it would go. In addition, it could dovetail nicely with any kind of reality weirdness/side effects of the Altered world plot for Era 5 starting to manifest. I also know that some people have expressed a desire to have a plot that didn’t revolve around the city, but also didn’t want to be cut off from all the plots and characters based in the city. I think this would be a good way to have both proximity to the Alleycity as well as a chance for new exploring, smaller groups and individualized plot lines. ^_^

Goodbye, quotes...

You can quote something from multiple threads if you're on the desktop version of the site.

Also, I like Zinc's plot idea for Era 4. Tunnels beneath the city in which shenanigans happen? I'm down for it.

Think most people who would vote have voted by now, so results:

1. Should main plot threads be locked?
Yes - 9

No - 9

(Will settle this in mod chat, this is honestly more of a moderation question anyways but thanks for feedback everyone, helps us to know that there isn't an overwhelming desire either way)

2. Should main plot threads be split up or kept to a single thread?

Single Thread - 7
Multiple Threads - 11

Multiple thread opinion seems to be the general consensus, but again there is a moderation element to this so we may discuss at a later time to see if running them as single threads would be beneficial.

New poll will be up shortly.

Poll up, we're trying to pin down what character profiles for next era need to look like so people can submit them early and save ourselves a giant backlog.
Hopefully options make sense, if not then feel free to ask.

I selected other, as I wasn’t sure where eldritch stuff went on the spectrum of custom Alleyverse magic versus Other, so I selected it as well.

So my vote for other is for Lovecraftian/eldritch elements to remain in the Alleyverse.

Note: I chose UNLIMITED POWER as a joke, and because I couldn’t resist. My personal opinion is that the power level should be slightly raised, by maybe, twenty points, but don’t care if it stays the same.

Maybe we shouldn’t be voting with joke answers? I feel like it will only add to the workload of everyone on the mod team if people are voting counter to their actual vote. This is a hectic time for the mod team and I don’t think we should be adding to their stress, even if it’s all in good fun.

I like this as well. Another plot possibility is that TUBA opposes it, maybe, or is just on edge because this is going on close to their tunnels? *shrugs* Lots of great potential here.

Yeah, but you can't quote locked threads at all, and locked threads were mainly what was annoying me. It looks like that's still up in the air, though, so I'll wait and see what the mods say.

I'm glad people have been liking it! It's worth noting that I didn't/don't plan on having the excavation/exploration interfere with the TUBA tunnels, though we could always work something like that in if you wanted ;) But yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of discovery of already-existing cavern networks and systems pretty soon into the plot, which wouldn't cause destruction to any current city infrastructure. TUBA could still oppose it of course, but just for your OOC information, I wasn't planning on messing with the TUBA tunnels in the plot.

Ah, fair enough.

Oh, I got that OOC, sorry - I should've been clearer. I'm just saying if they thought it was too invasive IC, or something.

Ah, cool. That could be interesting - TUBA, the "friends of the people," trying to oppose a civic project that lots of the "normal folk" of the city are in favor of because it messes with their domain...

Just an idea, they might oppose it completely or not at all, or partially or only some of them etc. But yeah, it could be. ;)

I object to this. The DA are clearly the friends of the people. In any alleyway in the city you can stroll right in and leave with magic powers. TUBA doesn’t do that.

DA disclaimer applies.

Ah, apologies, the quotes were meant to indicate derisive sarcasm. I agree wholeheartedly.

The DA has infinitely more soul than TUBA ever will.

This problem is easily solved through more writing. I wouldn't want people to get the idea that I'm badmouthing the DA. Perish the thought!
