Named nodded slowly, drafting a touch of yellow. Abruptly, he looked startled.

A door materialised in the air and Sandy walked through, holding a piece of nicrosil. His being occasionally flickered in and out of Named's thin slice of 10D reality. Sandy tossed the unkeyed nicrosilmind to Named.

"Chi, paryl, and Lightsplitting," Sandy said. He walked back out of the door, which vanished as soon as he left.

Named tapped the chromaturgy in the metalmind and stored it in the nicrosilminds on his ribs to compound later.

Named grinned.

Hitting really hard would probably break whatever you're hitting it with long before the SIM, even near lightspeed.

All the rest apply though.

Nope.

EDIT:

@ChipsAHoid I can bring the Trisolarans when you're ready

I'm going to say they're docked in orbit.

Hi wow sorry I should be able to be on the next few days

she backed away looking between him and Rebus. "I dont know. I don't know! Why does everyone wanna force me to do stuff. Why is this happening!" She started panicking until she clenched her fists and fell to her knees and a Shockwave threw everyone back @Dragonheir

Moni stumbled back, one arm up to shield her face from debris. "I'm not trying to force you to do anything! I just want to help!"

Sequence murmured softly as Unintelligible lifted her. Her skin was a sickly sort of grey, and she looked smaller than normal. At least there was no sign of the black essence of the wound at her side seeping through her clothes yet.

Aelinor looked down at the amulet and gave a curt nod of thanks to Ryver, brushing it gently with her one remaining thumb. She would likely need prosthetics to ever wield a sword again… Bother.

On 11/25/2025 at 5:05 PM, Ookla the Knight said:

"I can. Aelinor, take this." He placed a sunlight medallion on her neck. "You can shoot that with a mental command, and use a shield with another command. It only has 20 shots or 5 uses of the shield, and it isn't certain to kill someone if you hit. But it will injure them."

"Cadewyn, you coming or staying here to guard Sequence? Unintelligible, what do you think is better?"

Unintelligible looked at Sequence, worry covering his face. "There's no time to leave her here. I'm taking her with us." He grimaced. "Now open the portal. We can't waste any time."

Ivisyre watched Malevolence closely, their expression blank. “Daring,” they remarked, idly pushing some of their power into Inversion. The sword began to buzz softly and glow. “Is that truly all that motivates you? Becoming the ‘Greatest Evil’?”

"Yes." Malevolence whispered. Then he tapped a finger to his wrist.

Malevolence's Evil Communicator appeared in a crackle of Lightning. He spun a dial on the device, then spoke, voice and an image of him sent by the machine throughout the entire Thread, audible to every character and Author.

Malevolence stood tall, violet eyes confident, shoulder length white hair blowing in the wind behind him. By his side he held Cowardice, a dagger made roughly from fused chunks of Mordite. "Greetings. I am Malevolence, evil scientist, betrayer of Malan, graduated villainous intern. And, most importantly, future bearer of the mantle of the Witherlord." As Malevolence spoke, a dim aura of darkness began to gather around Cowardice. He continued on, voice gaining intensity. "I had hidden this intent, thinking to strike from the shadows and take the Mantle, but now I realize that this is weakness. So I tell you now, and I tell you truly: I, Malevolence, shall be the Witherlord. I do not seek this out of blind lust for power, but out of my understanding of one simple fact:" Malevolence's eyes gleamed, Cowardice entirely hidden by an expanding bubble of darkness. "Sacrifices must be made for the greater evil. Who besides myself is worthy of this title? Rebus? The fool thinks to control the Witherlord, bring about its sure end. will not seek to control the Witherlord; I will bring about a new age of darkness!" The darkness around Cowardice had expanded to cover nearly all of Malevolence. Only his eyes were visible, burning with evil passion as his declaration reached crescendo. "will rend this Thread in shadow and death! I will be the Witherlord, and all light shall dwindle and die before me! I AM MALEVOLENCE! FEAR MY NAME!"

At these last words, The darkness around Cowardice imploded in a burst of rushing wind, revealing the weapon's new form: A pure black axe with a handle as long as Malevolence was tall. He looked at it, and instinctively knew the weapon's new name: Darkseeker.

Malevolence brought the weapon down on the Evil Communicator, rending it in two and cutting of the transmission.

Then he looked up at Ivisyre. "So, you have heard my confession. Will you try and stop me?"

Ivisyre applauded slowly, a smile on their lips. “Yes. Impressive as it was, I think I’ll try.”

A dark cavern, deep below a world of fire and destruction, began to collapse. The alloy making up the earth miles around the vault started melting and cracking as it began to cave in around the vault. Ivisyre watched Malevolence with a relaxed posture.

Warning light immediately flashed on Malevolence’s bracer. He glanced at them, unsurprised. Plan alpha, I think. He tapped his bracer, and deep beneath the surface of Ivisyre’s world, machinery whirred to life. With a crackle of lightning and a burst of ennulling energy to prevent any Narrative shenanigans, the entire vault vanished, teleported off to who-knows where.

Malevolence smiled. “I suppose I will have to hope that my precautions will keep Bacon restrained within the vault. I did manage to sneak in quite a bit of Nullite into the design.” He hefted Darkseeker, testing its weight. “I assume you’ll try to beat the vault’s location out of me?”

Ivisyre sighed, dismissing Inversion and standing up straight. “No. Didn’t expect that to work anyways.” They took a big, exaggerated bow. “Good luck with the Witherlord. I hope it consumes you and you die.” They flashed a grin and vanished with a puff of mist.

Uhh I don't have a character in the Thread right now

Good thing I can summon 18142.

18142 appeared in his spacetime curvature starship.

"So," he began, his voice aligning with mine. "What exactly does this new age of darkness entail? Also I don't know if you know this, but there are many other Threads out there, and for me and those I care about, this one is expendable. Sure, the Battle for the Sandwich is not an ideal place for many things, but we can make do. Through the Door-Ways, Threadhopping is now even easier than ever. So no, I will not try to stop you, or at least I won't completely oppose you. The Trisolarans still need a place to land, and I'd like it to be here. If you turn the entire Thread to smoldering ruin, I won't care, so long as the Trisolarans have been given time to gain affinity to Investiture and everything else that isn't strictly physics."

Edit: @Ookla the Uncreative Name here it is

A sleek silvery ship appeared in the sky, fusion engines leaving a massive trail behind it. It was quickly joined by hundreds more like it, the combined trails of which outshone the sun. The ships landed on the pre-arranged mountains, vapourising what little grew there.

Sandy walked out of one of the ships. His being tended to flicker occasionally.

"Axzi!" he bellowed. A translucent sphere appeared beside Sandy; a sophon unfolded into lower dimensions. "The Trisolarans are here."

Sorry I don't have much time to write more.

Thunder rumbled in the distance. Storm turned his head from Rebus. "The deal's off." he grinned. "You have a rival."

@Dragonheir

Cricket faced Malevolence, watching as the hologram crackled and strutted. He watched it for a moment as the message ended, then spat. Something in side of him, faint, stirred. A will. A will to . . . do something.

All this time, he'd held off. He wanted to kill Rebus, but it was not attainable. He'd been putting it off. Too hard for him. But this . . .  for a long time, he'd considered Love his ally. He distrusted him, since their first encounter, when he'd exploded a bomb in his face, and knew him to be evil, but he'd always figured they would fight Rebus together. Evidently not.

"What's been keeping me alive?" he whispered, not entirely sure why, or who he was speaking to. "The truth is, one thing. I'd have died a long time ago without it."

Suddenly, above, the sky was cut off with whirling darkness. Storm clouds rumbled, and rain began to drizzle, lightly at first, but becoming more and more powerful as time went on, turning into a downpour.

"So what has been keeping me alive?" he spoke, now, not just to himself, but to the entire Thread. Rebus, Malevolence, the Authors . . . "I understand it now. It's the story. My journey isn't complete. And my story won't end, until I have his head on a platter."

Cricket grinned. He reached to his side, and a Blade formed. Redemption. A new Blade. A signal that it was time. Time to return.

--

Above the tempest, Storm grinned. "You know what's keeping him alive? Truly? His will. His will to live is, quite simply, true strong."

Oh, and if anyone behaves like Rebus in real life, leave. He’s fictional, and literally chose to become a villain.

Rebus’s face softened, the part of him that really did care emerging from beneath all of the facades and schemes. “You want to help others… Choose someone else, kid. I don’t need you, and you definitely don’t need me.”

Named was startled, as he didn't get warning for him as he did for Sandy and the other clones. Named strapped in and the ship began accelerating to lightspeed, relativity bending the realms just a bit so the ship traveled partially through the Cognitive.

As Named approached his birthplace (cloneplace?), he could make out more information through his connection with Trout, another of the clones. There was... a sentient awakened black hole frying pan?

Named couldn't help but grin as he returned to the chaos.

Rebus watched him leave, silent.

Jack frowned. “I think you are right. We just passed through a wall.”

Rebus seemed uncharacteristically vulnerable. He had been outpaced, and he was tired - tired of pages and pages of preparation and scheming being abruptly invalidated.

Continuity is all that this world exists upon!” Rebus lifted off of the ground, held aloft by power and anger. “Only consensus keeps the Thread as a world. Only respect for decisions and events even allow all of this to exist! Without that, I could kill Cricket a thousand times over with no more effort than a breath. And yet it would mean nothing!” Rebus’s eyes flashed, punctuating the statement. “If every Author acted as you have, it would destroy this world far more surely than the mere release of the Witherlord. We would fall to chaos - nothing would matter, and none would care. So think on that, Author. Contemplate what you have done, and decide what it is you will do.”

We would fall to chaos - nothing would matter, and none would care. So think on that, Author. Contemplate what you have done, and decide what it is you will do.”

Storm laughed. "You know nothing, Rebus. I have seen thousands of pages pass by, I was acting before your conception. Even before Cricket, I watched, I waited. I saw death and rebirth. We, Authors, control the Thread. How many times have we altered history with a wave of the hand. I can create worlds, millennia of history in an instance. And, I'll have you know, I did not alter continuity, for no fight was happened. I merely altered the deal."

He paused. "Rebus, beware. I am thinking, and . . . the time is ripe for Cricket's return. His full return. He is dangerous, and, he will not show mercy."

Jack frowned. “I think you are right. We just passed through a wall.”

"It's not that. It's just that I can no longer see the exit." Lyric pressed a hand against what appeared to be thin air. "Hum. I see a maze of narrow corridors, probably similar to what you see."

Rebus seemed uncharacteristically vulnerable. He had been outpaced, and he was tired - tired of pages and pages of preparation and scheming being abruptly invalidated.

A voice spoke to Rebus, audible only to him.

I am sorry to upset your careful plans, Rebus. Malevolence should have revealed his intent earlier. He has... not been himself, recently. Canonically, I suppose it is likely due to his becoming aware, in some small way, of my thoughts about him. But truly, it was my fault. In my absence I forgot who he was, who he is. He had lost his confidence, his penchant for the dramatic, these things which first made me enjoy writing him. He was sliding towards becoming a common schemer, not the true villain he deserves to be. Delayed as it is, this was a necessary step towards correcting that drift.

"Then I shall not oppose you," 18142 said. Sandy walked up to him.

"Re-hydration is going as planned," he whispered. 18142 nodded. "They do not want to leave their ships just yet, though. I don't think they want any humans to see them."

"But you're human," 18142 replied.

"Barely." With that, Sandy quantum tunnelled back inside one of the Trisolaran ships.

Malevolence looked at the ships with interest. "Aliens? How interesting." Tiny crackles of lightning announced the arrival of several drones, which flew towards the Trisolaran ships and began attempting to scan them.

Cricket appeared before Rebus. He looked older, more weary, but there was a defiant light in his eyes.

"Hello there, Love." he smiled. "I see we have a common enemy."

I'm assuming you meant to say he appeared in front of Malevolence?

"Ah, Cricket." Malevolence bowed mockingly. "You believe we have a common enemy?" He examined the back of his hand casually. "You are correct. However, I see no benefit to teaming up with you in order to defeat Rebus. If you cannot even bring yourself to meet Rebus in a fair duel, how could you hope to defeat him?" Malevolence smirked. "No, I do not believe I need your help. If anything, you should be teaming up with Rebus to defeat me."

The Trisolaran ships are coated in SIM. Nothing deeper can be scanned, since the electromagnetic force is blocked by a layer of advanced Trisolaran tech beneath the SIM layer.

Renn jumped. He was frightened, but he knew he had protection from Axzi. And by extent this Rebus fellow he supposed. And Asharak. Yes, he would be safe. He was yet to get a mission though, and he wondered when that would happen (@Ookla the Kansan) (you are the one who plays Asharak right?)

@Ookla the Obfuscated

Axzi, however, was very worried. He had been far too focused on his own matters. What was a Witherlord? Where had this come from? Would Rebus be able to protect him? It was time to end this silly quest once and for all. Axzi strained and Rebus appeared before the dark gods. However, something horrible had happened. They seemed to have fused into one. Had he sent Rebus to his death?

Then Axzi… disappeared?

It had taken the form of a hooded man, clad in black robes. He seemed almost human, yet there was something… off.

He was facing away from Rebus and a deep chuckle escaped his mouth.

All joy, all desire to live, to fight, was sucked away from Rebus. Only pain remained. There was no escape from the sorrow. Only despair awaited him. The physical light began to be sucked away as well.

I am so glad to finally see you in person, Rebus

Was that… Axzi?

Vengeance chuckled again.

Axzi has been long deposed. I do hate playing the hero, but once we combined I was able to quickly consume the rest of the gods. However, Axzi is strong, and he nearly escaped me several times, such as when agreeing to serve you. Axzi perhaps may serve you, but I have ensured Axzi as you knew him is no more. I know you can read the Thread so I have had to act the fool and conceal my motives.

However, this was all intended to bring you to me and to prove your worth as an ally.

I fully intend to work with you. However, I will not serve you as a lesser. I am powerful. I do not doubt you could kill me, but for the moment you have far larger issues to deal with and I would be a potentially fatal distraction if such a course of action occurred. However, as I earlier mentioned,I think this alliance would be beneficial to both of us.

Now for the Trisolarans…

I will still be happy to house them. So long as they do not oppose me they are still welcome on my lands. In fact, they may mingle with my servants. I will protect them as if they are my own, should they not intervene with my works

As he was speaking, the same darkness that covered the region around Derior spread to cover all of Axzi- no, Vengeance’s lands.

There is one left, however, who evades me. Where is Renn?

———

Renn, it turns out was on the run. The moment he saw the darkness approaching, he had used his powers from Asharak to escape.

He does not have a lot of people he trusts, but Asharak seems like the best choice considering that something bad must have happened to Axzi. Perhaps it was that Rebus fellow?

Nonetheless, he turns to Asharak

“Now seems like a really good time for a mission!”

😭 sorry everything stalled out, I'm kinda trying to figure out a new plan

Asharak had been distracted for some time, stuck in a contemplative state; examining what was happening across the Thread and considering his next move. He also wondered where Taeidin had gone; he disappeared, and seemed to be nowhere to be found.

Then his attention was drawn back to one he had neglected in the meantime. He appeared near Renn, still contemplating the reveal of a character shift in Axzi.

"Hello, Renn. Yes, I believe I have a mission for you now. Counter the darkness. Then we may continue with our plan." Asharak tried not to show his uncertainty. He was mostly trying to buy time to figure out a plan. Cricket mostly gone, his fate still undecided; many Authors gone or online rarely; plotlines stalled or fading. @Bird Furious in particular (please Haly I need Lady Bug for information) was needed for information, yet had not made an appearance in some time.

Asharak kept returning to Protagonist, around which any plan he designed must revolve. He wondered what would happen if Cricket were unable to claim it.
