The destroyer calmly hurled explosion after explosion at the shield.

Erif struggled ineffectually against the grasping hands.

You hit a sore spot with Onyx :P But he's not so mad he really wants you dead.

The destroyer does somewhat have a mind of his own.

The inspector blinked.

"Oh dear," he said. "What are you doing, destroyer?"

The void-eyed man did not speak, but his servants did. "gathering power," they whispered. "all will be one. their power, their flesh joined to ours..."

Uh, sort of.

Is that location within The Longest Thread or outside?

My first most powerful was Berin when he assaulted the Servant of Intellect castle (it was occupied by Servants of Rage.) At that point, he was a Servant of Mirth, Madness, AND Rage.

Ista shouted at Erif. “TELEPORT!”

Because of its nature, the shield withstood the barrage. Ista shrugged, then continued. “Now, I don’t particularly wish to join you. Seems terribly dirty, and I would hate to soil my reputation.” She laughed.

@kpShadowFox anything else to say before she dies?

"You were strong, I'll give you that much. If you hadn't strayed from the path of righteousness, what happened here would never have happened. I pity you for that. Rest well knowing that your soul can finally move back into the cycle of death and rebirth."

Erif blinked. Right. Of course.

He teleported inside Ista's globe.

"Oh," said the inspector. "Is it... wise, to anger him?"

The destroyer vanished in a flash of black, appearing inside the dome with his arm reaching for Ista's neck.

Er, that would be... difficult, after being killed by a withergeist.

gmas to go read what a withergeist is

okay, I read what it is

and while my attack is similar, it doesn't destroy the soul, only the body. It does sever the connection between the soul and the body, and destroys the body, but the soul is left untouched.

its like an artificial withergeist

“I dunno, but it is cool!” Ista wrenched away, then froze a particularly sharp slate of ice over the destroyer, dropping it on him after launching away.

ista rn is leaning heavily into her connection with Mirth.

That makes sense.

It would be kind of a problem for an Ennuller to go around making withergeists. :P

The ice lacerated the destroyer, but red light oozed from his wounds. In moments he was whole.

He raised his hand and a pulse of white summoned Ista to that location.

Coincidentally, does she have any cool magic items?

No.

I mean in my head she has a ring but it's not magical.

Everyone was suddenly able to move again.

Shoe shook his whole body, happy to be unfrozen, but still greatly unnerved by Beosta's thoughts from earlier.

Tam ran over to Shoe and hugged him again, tears in her eyes. She walked over to survey the damage to Sentry.

Join us. Become one. Unity is strength. Strength is Unity.

“Hey. I already have strength. I already belong to someone.”

Heres where I get into the nitty gritty mechanics of the powers! I had worried I would never flesh this aspect of the powers out.

Ista cocked her head as her Thread different type of thread neared the destructor’s. “Go away.” The destructor was launched away from her.

Guess so.

Tam gasped. "Shoe! I can hear you now! That's great!" she hugged him tighter, then let him go and picked up Sentry's limp body. She looked around at the rumbling walls.

"Okay, we should probably go now," she said, running out of the entrance. "Come on!"

The destroyer swung his blade at her chest and was knocked away.

He opened his eyes. Where they should be was only void.

A blue light shine through, analyzing Ista's Thread.

"Do you think you can defeat him?" asked the inspector.

Meanwhile, the zombies had nearly dragged Tull beneath the soil.

The Once-Author sat in a fetal position, sobbing, face contorted in pain. I deserve this? I... I deserve this...

Yes. Yes you do. Ryss whispered.

The pain ripped into the Once-Author's body.

But then he remembered.

Remembered his time here. A mortal. A hard life.

But it was something.

He reached out and grabbed his blade.

"I will not die without a fight." He said, his muscles sore, his face covered in sweat."You will not have me that easily."

Fair enough.

"Hey," called Nogard, angry. "Stop that."

"I suppose we must fight after all," rumbled Selppaenip. He charged Falvan, brandishing his katanas.

The destroyer pointed at Ista. Yellow light coalesced around his finger, then blinked towards her. On impact, it exploded.

Falvan twisted, throwing a powerful gust  of air spinning at Nogard. Then, summon power from within himself, stabbed The fallen author with his twisted metal weapon.

Power, bright and fast, visibly ran through the metal, pouring into the once author. It poured deep into him. Then…started to reverse.

@Ancient Elantrian if you catch my drift?

The Once-Author didn't make a sound. His body felt cold as power was pulled, ripped out of his body. He looked forwards, seeing something he didn't understand.

Ryss stood there, a dark look on his face.

The Once-Author thought back to his time with the Dreamsmith. A weapon... a sword that won't work... except on your characters.

His narration was disappearing quickly, and his body felt lighter. He held on tightly to his Authorblade, steadying his arm.

Not yet... but almost.

Beosta didn’t notice. She was just glad she hadn’t thrown up.

It could be nice if he interpreted her as the victim— like “oh somebody did murders and she got caught in the middle and saw it” or smth— if that’s some way he would think

The Ennuller the group met reported that Ciara died in that invasion. The backstory that was intended to support was that Ciara faked her death so that she could go do her own thing.

But that doesn't have to be true if you don't want it to be.

Green crystals sprung up from the ground towards Zanitar.

He quickly flew up out of range, then groaned. Now was a poor time for this.

Power flooded into Falvan. He stumbled backwards but kept his grip on the handle of his weapon. Soon it was done. Natration. Power.

Finally.

Witha twist and a wrench, he pulled his blade from The once author. Falvan loomed over him. “Justice is always the punishment for those who give their life to its opposite. Now, you die.”

Flavian swept his weapon into him again.

istas thread is just her soul. When her soul neared yours, she turned into a temporary Servant of Onyx? I dunno the word choice. (All it is meaning is that she can manipulate his soul. Only slightly, but if he tried that again, and he got farther, the effects might be more drastic)

Ista hesitated.”I don’t know. When he drew my soul to his, I gained a certain capacity to manipulate it, but only slightly. Unimportant things like position.”

oh no tull

Ista launched herself to Tull, exploding the zombies away from Tull, and pulling him out. She launched them back to the platform.

Rationalization?

Hmm

I still want there to be a bit of uncertainty though 😋
