Feeling a bit rejected, Shoe sat back and didn't write anything else.

Out of nowhere, a white piece of paper appeared and fluttered down. Beosta snatched it.

One more thing-- don't let that mute become your misguided attempt at redemption.

Beosta crumpled the note in her hand, tears welling up in her eyes again.

Bacon blinked. "...what?"

Did . . . did you not hear that part of the conversation?

I know but he has no idea what to do about that right now

And he's definitely not going to ask about it; she just called him stubborn and then dismissed his apology (or at least that's what it came across as to him). He doesn't know what the right thing to do is, so he's going to take the safer route and not do anything.

Y'know?

"I don't think I internalized it properly. It must be because my brain is made of bacon." He shrugged, then frowned. "Why would the Ennullers want your sister? She wasn't developing any ascendant abilities, was she?"

Ascendant abiities? Like . . . Narration? I mean, she was a Narrator but we didn't know that for a long time . . .

Bacon performed a spit take.

"She was a WHAT?" he exclaimed.

. . . A Narrator? He suddenly felt anxious. Is that a bad thing . . . ? he asked, worried.

"Not exactly, I just... wasn't expecting that. Really? A Narrator? And the Ennullers took her away?"

I mean, yeah. Sort of. And it was only one Ennuller, not multiple.

"Well, if one would do, they wouldn't- wait." Bacon's frown deepened. "He was working alone? You're sure?"

She, actually. And yeah, she was the only one.

"That," declared Bacon, "would be a very strange occurrence indeed. I was under the impression that all of the Ennullers worked together." He frowned. "Granted, I'm not an expert... Hm. Did you catch her name?"

She did mention her name . . . He could never remember off the top of his head.

Oh! Ciara!

"Ciara." Bacon rolled the name around on his tongue. "I haven't heard the name before, but then again, I haven't met many Ennullers." He pulled out a piece of bacon-flavored gum and began chewing on it thoughtfully.

"To tell you the truth," he said, "you're honestly probably right about needing help. A real shame that instructor of Beosta's didn't believe you. If there is a rogue Ennuller running about, I can't imagine the rest of them being too happy about it."

OH MY GOSH I'VE NEVER IMAGINED HIM WITH AN AUSTRALIAN ACCENT UNTIL NOW this is amazing

Lol I always envisioned him with a kind of southern USA accent, but I guess my perspective is shifting.

Also the Shoe, Beosta and Bacon story is keeping me at the edge of my seat, and waiting for the next post is my new pastime. 🙌

Bacon-flavored gum? *gag*

I mean, I wouldn't exactly say it like that, but I don't know how the other Ennullers would feel about what she's doing.

"So have I, counting the one we just met. And the other one was partially crazy and possibly a ghost, with weird floaty hair and no eyes and everything. I suppose we could ask her, but I wouldn't get my hopes up."

That sounds . . . freaky. What do you want to ask her? If she knows Ciara?
