Vlanis straightened, Anti-Intent disappearing. Down the street, he could see large wolves made out of darkness screaming his name.
He stood up, drawing his gun. "Great. Just great."
He searched his pockets, trying to find something that could help him. From its depths, he found a Sungem, a diamond set within a magnifying glass.

Better than nothing. He thought as he checked the afternoon sun.

Erm

Inkwell, split up into the approximately four dozen inkwolves, began knocking random people over and threatening them with a toothy growl, before interrogating them as to the whereabouts of Vlanis. He did his best not to hurt anyone too badly, but wolf bodies liked violence more than people bodies. No one died, at least.

Vlanis carefully positioned the Sungem before opening his mouth to distract the creatures…
Then he paused. Mistair was trying to tempt him. He wouldn’t fall for this again.
He summoned the Vael and began to walk through to teleport to a distant place. Suddenly, something invisible forcefully pushed him out.

“You’re not getting away that easily,” Mistair’s voice said with a tone of annoyance. "I want my dramatic showdown."
The voice grew in volume. “Inkwell! Vlanis is over here.”
From thin air, a brilliant blade clattered onto the ground. Mistair spoke again, "There we are. A little fairer."

He blinked, then his body morphed, he ink flowing upwards into the approximate shape of a young man. Inkwell drew a copy of Futility. "Regardless", he amended, "I need a good fight. To shake off the silence. Flawed silence."

Back on the mountain’s ledge, 105 noticed a green spot moving quite quickly through the town. The sun had long creeped down into the sea, making it harder to make out the figure. Viridis? 105 thought. He didn’t seem like the type to do such a thing, but either way, it was a distraction from the people appearing out of thin air, so 105 started to walk back down the mountain, into town.

Viridis jumped when he noticed 105. He froze, and eyed the approaching figure suspiciously.

Mr. Mistair chuckled as he summoned a wallet and set money on the table, his suit turning a slight shade of green with a hint of yellow. "Friend, if you can believe it, you can achieve it... Eventually."

Corvus rolled his eyes, and pile of money stretching to the nearest star system appeared on the table

105 stopped. They didn't mean to be seen, they merely wanted to observe Viridis better. A sudden sprint for the outside was quite out of the ordinary.

Viridis began to move again, however this time at a normal speed. He walked in the same direction as the crowd. He appeared to become a green fluid, weaving through the streets.

Corvus appeared beside 105. "Nothing bad happened to him," he said confidently.

105 turned to Corvus, rainwater dripping from their clothes. “That’s good. I wonder where he was going in such a hurry then… I’m going to keep following him…”

"Probably isn't plot-relevant," Corvus said.

Viridis appeared to be going nowhere in particular, flowing with the crowd in whichever direction they went.

“Well,” 105 mused. “That’s why I’m watching it. Even though not ‘plot-relevant’, a differentiation in behaviour is something to observe. So I shall.”

“…remember to keep an eye on him…” 105 said to the spot Corvus was standing in.

Without much more to do, 105 continued their walk into town, keeping an eye on Viridis. The rain was coming down heavier now, forcing the people below into shelters and into buildings. Viridis, if he was rational, would choose to do so too. If not, 105 would have more evidence of abnormality.

Viridis' cloak was getting drenched, and that wouldn't do. He had to get under shelter.

He approached a large shopping mall and ducked inside, increasing his speed slightly.

105, not as bothered by the rain, slowly followed, noting Viridis’s speed.

By this time, Viridis had already dashed into a Kmart and was wandering among the Lego sets.

“How convenient.” 105 said, entering the Kmart . “I was just in the need of some click pens…”

After retrieving said click pens, 105 headed over to Viridis, still in the Lego sets.

How does 105 know he's there?

Viridis was already gone, on his way out of the building. He was tapping into his oxygen reserves, running several times faster than an athlete on Earth. When he passed, people wondered if the green blur was something they'd imagined.

They knew he was in the Kmart, they saw him in the Lego section when they entered the mall. That was before he ran away.

105, absorbed in a Lego set with an outlandish price, did not notice his departure until too late. “Well,” 105 said, walking out of the Kmart, “He can’t have gone that far. This is an island we are on, after all. And that other person is looking over him too.”

No he was in Kmart already when 105 entered the building

And there were like 50 other stores there

Viridis reached the shore, startling a fisherman who was just hauling in the day's catch.

"Can I buy your boat?" he asked, retrieving gold coins with symbols the fisherman didn't recognise. The fisherman stared at him in silence.

Corvus appeared beside 105. "I know where he is. By the time you get there, he may or may not be on a boat, sailing away from here."

105 just happened to look in the Kmart and saw him. It was just pure chance.

”Oh. You’re back again.” 105 was outside the mall, walking unhurriedly in the downpour. “Well, if that’s so, I’ll just keep following. It’s not like I have anything else to do. And he intrigues me, and a person like that doesn’t just appear every day.”

-_-

"Who are you again?" the fisherman asked, puzzled.

"Doesn't concern you," Viridis replied, before getting out several dozen more gold coins. The fisherman eyed the coins for a moment before nodding, handing Viridis a paddle and walking off with his fish. Viridis jumped into the boat and zipped into the ocean fast enough to create waves.

Corvus, who was walking with 105, nodded, then vanished.

QUP…

When 105 reached the beach, the waves from Viridis’s parting were long gone. 105 sighed. Corvus’s claims that that this ‘Viridis’ wasn’t ‘plot-important’ didn’t seem to be holding up…

105 spotted a small boat to the side of a pier. It was ragged and worn, but it was still very much buoyant. On it, there was a sign that said ‘FREE’. 105 climbed into it, and started paddling.

As 105 rowed out into the ocean, they felt a strange tugging sensation in their chest. As soon as it stated, as sharp tug tugged 105 off their boat. A strange voice came from the storm. “You shall not leave. At least in your current form.” Then 105 fell unconscious, at the mercy of the water.

Vlanis growled as he looked at the shining blade. He wasn’t going to become part of Mistair’s story again.
I don’t have a choice. I have to fight. This Thread won’t allow a clean regeneration.
Shouldn’t he welcome death? After all these years?

When the time comes. I can’t allow Mistair to hurt anyone else the way he hurt me.

Picking up the sword, Vlanis yelled at the inky man. “Mistair doesn’t care. All he sees in anyone is their potential to entertain him. He thinks himself an Author.”

Readying into a stance, he called the memories of swordplay back to him.

Hours after they reached shore, 105 woke, the star of this planet slowly inching above the horizon. The storm was gone, along with Viridis. 105 let out a small laugh. Well, they thought, standing up and brushing off sand, with this outcome, it really must not be in the cards. 105 looked up the star once again, then headed back to the cafe.
