"My father, cryogenically frozen." Malevolence said idly. "Kept as a trophy by the villain who ran the school of evil."

"I'd forgotten about that. You plan to sacrifice him, then?"

"If necessary. Technically, the box was here the entire time, cloaked, just in case my primary sacrifice didn't work out."

She frowned.

The Mordite blade on his armor bled into his suit, since he had neglected to remove it previously, opening the way for more to flow in. It speared through his body.

A rift opened beneath the box, just wide enough for it to fall though. It appeared in an undisclosed location, though she was really only doing that to buy a bit more time.

A voice continued the chant, rumbling like the storm itself.

For a time, the sun rises and burns,
For a time life writhes and flourishes.
Yet in the end the night comes,
And all will be brought to dust.

Lord of the Dark, we call thee!
King of the Fallen, we speak thy name!
Prince of the Twisted path, we summon thy power!
This world shall be yours once more!

A final, not so dramatic voice, finished the chant, sounding almost bored.

For a time, the sun rises and burns,
For a time life writhes and flourishes.
Yet in the end the night comes,
And all will be brought to dust.

Asking your wife to help you complete the ritual, Nameless? :P

Fog stiffened.

More Mordite flowed into the suit, rending Malevolence apart. She teleported them both away, the same little machine preventing him from teleporting back.

She glared at him.

A rift opened beneath the box, just wide enough for it to fall though. It appeared in an undisclosed location, though she was really only doing that to buy a bit more time.

Malevolence grabbed the sphere and ripped it free. His suit, though not armor, had anti-Mordite technology. In essence it stabbed into his leg before the Mordite could, coating the edges of the wound with a field of light enulling energy to prevent Mordite contamination. This did not stop him from being injured, but it did prevent an unhealing wound that could plague him even as the Witherlord.

Balitan appeared, holding a cloaking device made with Nullite to remove all traces of his presence. He stood rigid before Malevolence, eyes horrified, but onmoving.

Malevolence heard the final voice. It shook him, the mountain, the Thread itself.

The roiling clouds above froze in place. The rain halted, and thunder ceased. Watching withergeists ceased their swirling and raised their voices in a final, baleful scream.

Malevolence raised Darkseeker to lay down the final blow. As his arm began to move, Antagonist roared alight. The shattered halo fully manifested.

Change. It whispered. It is not too late. Never too late. BE REDEEMED.

In that moment, Malevolence saw the scene from his sacrifice’s perspective. He felt the fear of death, saw himself as others saw him: Evil.

In that instant, all of Malevolence’s evil was stripped away. Every hateful instinct, every negative emotion, his very way of seeing the world was righted. Malevolence saw his goal, and it revolted him. He saw his deeds, and despised them. He saw himself, and hated him.

Malevolence lowered Darkseeker as the halo above him sealed back together, complete and whole.

Then he smiled. It was not a smile brought upon by emotion. It did not reach his eyes, nor look particularly happy. But it was a smile nonetheless. Because he chose to make it.

“I see the right way.” Said Malevolence. “And I choose to reject it.”

He ignored every instinct, every desire of his heart, and rammed Darkseeker into Balitan’s heart. He watched as his brother died, feeling every moment of dying agony. Malevolence felt no glorious victory, no satisfaction. But he was resolute. He had chosen his path, and would not change it.

The ritual was complete.

Inkwell shook his head, retrieving Shadowlight. Luckily, he hadn’t had to waste that particular trick. Unfortunately, he was out of usable ideas. “Okay, okay, Fog. Eden, get out of there. You’re going to get killed.”

——

“Speak for yourself!”, Eden said. Any other blow she landed was another future where Malevolence failed, another moment where he was in another world. She couldn’t- Malevolence landed a hit on her hand. She dropped Death Omen, and it retracted to a necklace. Foolish, foolish. Don’t try and change the future, it whispered to her. Smoke rose from her left hand, flesh withering, skin blackening. I think not, Death Omen said, and she could feel a surge of power running down the arm. The corruption stopped, but didn’t heal. Eden stared at the hand, then scrambled away, tongue bleeding as she tried not to scream.

——

Inkwell stared in horror. He didn’t have time to process. He would be feeling guilty for that for a long time. “Night, I can’t do anything else. Please, protect her.” A starhawk appeared, yanking Eden away from the fray.

atlas rose from ben and walked past bacon looking up. @xinoehp512 "no... this... this is bad. Really. Bad." she watched as everything changed once more. "The world's are ending, if we cannot be strong enough to put any differences aside to fight the witherlord and save the thread! Then we are no worse then the ones we hate!" She shouted. To any soul who thought to listen. She said quite only for the ones who cared. "Im not going to let more people die while sitting to the side. I dont care if it costs me my life, im done waiting. Malevolence heard Rebyl's question, and amid a shimmer of sparks from his crown, he... felt her emotions. It was odd. Feeling horror at his own actions, feeling intensely that it was... wrong. In an instant, the moment passed.

"Because I will be the greatest evil there has ever been!" He bellowed in answer.

The words sounded hollow to his ears.

That final Author had better speak soon. Malevolence thought grimly. This blade is getting to me.

Malevolence staggered, struggling to withstand the onslaught. "At last, the forces of good have arrived. In vain you shall struggle, for my triumph is certain." Holding one hand against a wall, Malevolence summoned Antagonist. The black crown appeared on his head in a form not dissimilar to that which it had taken when wielded by Rebus. The same, actually, save for a quiet flickering of white sparks, playing between the crown's tips.

Immediately, Malevolence straightened. The barrage of images and emotions ceased, rebuffed by the Plotblade's power. The villain smiled. "Is that the best you can do?" He pointed Darkseeker, and a wave of liquid darkness sprung forth towards Egis.

Even as he did this, however, a new emotion entered Malevolence's mind. Regret. Regret and sorrow, for what he would give up.

Malevolence frowned. Regret? He'd dealt with this already. Surely...

It struck him.

Antagonist and Redemption are one. I cannot use Antagonist without allowing Redemption to grasp at my soul, attempting to drag me into the light.

Malevolence gritted his teeth. It was a risk he would have to take. His devotion to evil was strong. Redemption would not overcome it.

As the flood receded, Balitan stood where he'd been before. Around him was a cage of calm and pure darkness, powered by a device the scientist held close to his chest.

Malevolence pointed Darkseeker at Fog's heart, standing confidently between the Mordite. "Did you think I would leave my sacrifice unguarded? Cricket left me with two Ennulling batteries, and I only had to use one of them while fighting Bacon."

Egis leaped over the wave, prepared to rush in again. Then the third voice rang out, the final Author needed to complete the ritual. She paused in her tracks, lowering her arms as she gazed up at the swirling mass of withergeists. Slowly, Egis started clapping.

The words echo in 9/10mmHB#2. Coward, something inside him says. He’s not a coward, is he? He has no obligations other than making right his offense against Fog. He’s not afraid of Malevolence, he just has no other obligations. If the Thread is destroyed, 9/10 wins. No, he says. That’s not right. Do you really want it all burned to the ground? Is it worth it? He growls, then uses the powers that he doesn’t have to hide from the Authors anymore to Rift back to the mountain.
It seems he is too late.

Deep within the Void, a power trembled. It had been lost for so long, but now... someone was calling its name. It stretched, following the beacon back into reality. Into the soul of the one who understood.

The Mantle of the Witherlord flowed into Malevolence.

Eden can’t look away from Bacon. Even as he disappears, leaving one last goofy smile. The starhawk yanks her away, and she can’t see him. Or the place where he had been. Sorrow, Death Omen says. Yes. I bring sorrow. It is to be expected around one such as me. Eden materialized in the middle of the woods. It is night, it is raining, but there is a light in the distance, at the base of a mountain. “It wasn’t you. You didn’t fail. I did.” The sword is silent.

No one can hear her scream in anger, clutching the withered claw that is her hand to her chest and struggling towards the light.
——

9/10mmHB#2 is a coward. But now is not the time to dwell on such things. He appears next to Inkwell, who is staring transfixed at a swirling vortex of Withergeists. “Ink, buddy, you’ve got to move,” 9/10 says. “No! I can still stop it! I have the Determination! I ca-“ “You can’t stop it, Inkwell. You’ve failed. Now come on, you’ve got to get out of here.” Inkwell lingers for a moment, then silently allows himself to be guided through a Rift.
——

Night stares down in agony. The planet below is slowly being consumed by darkness, and she has expended far too much energy with the starhawks. She feels powerless. A Narrator shouldn’t feel powerless. Her author- it was her authors fault. Placing limits on her. But no. She couldn’t blame the author. An astral tear fell from her face to the planet’s surface, then was swallowed by the dark storm.

The Mantle of the Witherlord flowed into Malevolence.

Power. Power flooded Malevolence, driving away the influence of Redemption, restoring his natural evil impulses. Power such as he had never dreamed. The power of the Void, of pain and death.

Darkness. Darkness enveloped Malevolence, expanded to cover the entire mountain. The darkness brought terror to the living and empowered all creatures of the void. It was the darkness of a smothered star, a killer’s heart, an open grave.

Evil. Evil filled Malevolence, transformed him, unmade him. Malevolence looked upward and saw nothing but the darkness about him. He closed his eyes and was content.

Thus was Malevolence ended. Thus was the Witherlord reborn.

The Witherlord opened his eyes. Darkness surrounded him, and he was pleased. But darkness could not hide the stench of reality. And so, he withdrew it.

The cloud of darkness covering the whole of the mountain imploded. It rushed inward, revealing the Witherlord’s form.

The Witherlord’s irises glowed a sinister violet, the only of Malevolence’s features distinguishable among the shifting shadows that covered the Witherlord’s form. Dark flames flickered along his arms and shoulders, and atop his head he wore Antagonist. In his right hand he held a dark Blade, fully six feet long.

The glowing halo manifested itself again, a mere glimmer before the darkness of the Witherlord. He ripped it from his head in disdain, holding the glowing Plotblade of Redemption before him.

Shadows pooled, and the halo shattered.

“So shall all Plotblades be.” The Witherlord said. “They shall perish with this Thread.”

He held his Blade before him. “I name this Blade ‘Malevolence’. For it shall bear his legacy.”

The Witherlord raised Malevolence high, then swung the Blade down.

Darkness

By the Dreamsmith

My own creation!

The Blade forged by

My hand tore the mountain,

Cut the world, released the Void.

What price for my weakness?

Friends lost, stories cut

Short.

What price for my hope of

Light?

The Witherlord hovered in the Void. To either side of him were the two sides of the mountain, the world cut in two, laid bare before the ravages of the Void. All around him were withergeists, countless numbers of them.

“Go forth. Consume this world and all life upon it. Let them know the fear of the Witherlord, as has been forgotten since times past.”

Subversion stood at the end of a road, watching the traveler's approach. Even at this distance, she felt the tremors of the Witherlord's return. She tried not to let that terrify her. Instead, she focused on the task at hand. The traveler had decided to end her journey, and Subversion would hear her out.

Then Subversion would kill the traveler, and all her worries would be over.

Farewell Bacon.

Somewhere, in a strange place with strange rules, a soft hiss was released from the shadows. "Rulebreaker." The speaker said, before stepping forward.

Violet energy arced and formed the head of a dragon, walking on two legs. "Fellow Guardian Center, it appears we have been betrayed."

A green flame ignited from nothing, surrounding itself in a pitch black shroud. Center arrived. "We will see about that... Perhaps it is time to revoke the consequences..."

Magenta cackled.
