Malevolence allowed his armor to absorb the flame, bursting from it to knock the Guardian's Plotblade aside with Darkseeker. "Just look at Rebus's motivation: Survive. He does not really want to dominate the Thread, or anything of the like." Malevolence spun around the Guardian, slashing Darkseeker toward his back as he continued his rant. "He is only 'evil' because he thinks being the Antagonist will ensure his survival! Why does he want the Witherlord? Because he is required to seek it out by an agreement he made. What does he plan to do with the Witherlord mantle? Ensure his own defeat! He's a pathetic waste of a villain, a waste of a character!" Malevolence shouted, breathing hard. "He's held Antagonist for more than two hundred and fifty pages, and what is the result? nothing! Everyone on this Thread should be cowering in fear, fighting him desperately, or dead! And yet, until I acted, hardly a single character was even so much as opposing him! Cricket had always been his enemy. But who else truly tried to oppose him? How can The Antagonist not even inspire the SLIGHTEST resistance?" Malevolence took a breath, and some measure of calm returned to his voice. "I am not the Antagonist. But I am a greater villain than he. For I care about nothing other than attaining the depths of true evil. When I am the Witherlord, this Thread will tremble at my name as it never has at Rebus's. Spoiler He’s ranting about how Rebus has no goal. “He’s got a point,” 9/10mmHB#2 wearily says. “I’m still not sure what Rebus is doing.” Spoiler I don’t think he does. Rebus has no goal but he does have a motivation, survive. Malevolence doesn’t have a motivation, but he does have a goal, destroy. And it’s a stupid goal. Besides, if they fought, I wouldn’t bet for Malevolence. He’s less of a villain and more of a force. “You’re saying… my archenemy is cooler than your archenemy. How petty is that.” Spoiler I’m going to be honest, I’m just trying to keep you awake. “Want to trade places?” Spoiler That’s a great idea. Inkwell bore the burden for 9/10, for the moment. Maybe they should find a healer. He checked the pen. Still empty, slowly filling, but it seemed to be locked in the off position. He tried to stand on his on injured foot, and managed to get up. “I’m.. going to go look for Alli. And apologize. You should too, more than I should.” Spoiler 9/10 groans. Fine. Inkwell lurches away from the cliffs, towards the forest below. Two pairs of tracks lead down to a path cutting through the woods. He steadies himself, and begins his search. 1
