"Listen to me, Fog." Ribbon said in an insistent tone of voice. "I will find us... Salvation."

She rubbed her forehead. "That, or maybe I'll just get rid of half of the Narrators. Or at least Rebus."

Spoiler

What am I, Inkwell?

Inkwell stumbles into a sparse forest of tall pine trees. Mountains loom I. The distance. I don’t know, 9/10mmHb#2. You can’t just try and kill something because you feel threatened. He sits, waiting for something to happen.

"Not so sure anymore, are we?" she said with a tilt of her head, amused.

A cry rang out from the forest.

Ribbon ripped a hole straight through Fog's heart.

Uh, question. I have the general idea, but what is the nature of a narrator? The Rees the authors, characters, but a narrator is something in between?

Her clothing ripped across her chest, but her actual body was also made of mist. This was a deeper red, however, while her head held no discernible color.

She reformed and pulled her clothing back together.

"Rude . . ."

A narrator is a special kind of character that's typical the primary character of the author, and so they have the power to Narrate basically everything they want into existence.

A Narrator is a being with a Prismite core who can see EVERYTHING someone posts. Even the non-bolded parts, if their Author wishes. They can see the entire post and create their own stories, though many are used as tools by their Authors.

Ribbon examined her weapon, a flower petal, then let it fade away. "Of course it couldn't be that simple. Authors these days..."

So, from what I’ve presented so far, could 9/10mmHB#2 be one?

She chuckled quietly.

"Nothing changed. What did you expect?"

"Well, there's always the chance." She sighed. "You narrators sicken me."

"If you were to look, you would see I have no Narrator's core. Relax."

She sighed.

"Curious... Why were you with... What was he called? Inkwell?"

"He seemed pretty random. Who are you? Someone earlier seemed to recognize you."

"Interesting. I doubt anyone would, really . . . they must have had me confused with someone else."

She looked Ribbon over.

"You can perceive the posts? Are you a Narrator, yourself?"

"No! I can't do that. I'm not a Narrator! My author already has one!"

"Then how did you know?"

"I'm not a narrator. I can't be." She said, as if trying to convince herself. "Here watch. 'there is a hotdog stand in front of me'."

When nothing changed, she said, "See? No Narration."

"That's a nice sword you got there."
