Shoe nodded, but otherwise didn't react outwardly to Beosta's response. He felt even sadder now, though he was hopeful about rescuing his sister.

Beosta headed to the outside doors of the clinic, Livetha on her shoulders, before she stopped to wait for Shoe. “What does the map say?” 

Stars, just moving sent stabs of pain through her body. It stretched her skin apart, and she wasn’t sure how long she could walk without fainting. At least she wasn’t bleeding anymore.

Stars, just moving sent stabs of pain through her body. It stretched her skin apart, and she wasn’t sure how long she could walk without fainting. At least she wasn’t bleeding anymore. 

The map was of the city. The hospital was a the bottom left corner, and the X was in the middle. Shoe stopped and showed Beosta the map, running his finger across a street that headed North, then East, then North again, then East again, then South. Or at least it was probably North, East,and South. The map didn't have a compass rose on it.

Either way, they would figure the orientation out when they got outside. It didn't seem like a particularly hard map to follow. Shoe stepped outside, looked between the map and their surroundings a few times, then started off away from the hospital, waving for the others to follow.

Which they did. 

Every step hurt Beosta. She would have snapped at Livetha to take more, but Livetha had already taken a lot. Any more might cause permanent damage. 

Stupid stoat. Why did I get stuck with a weakling?

Beosta leaned against the wall. It helped, but it was impossible to ignore the pain. She grimaced at the ground.

She found herself inside what appeared to be a waiting room. A man sat behind a desk, typing at a computer.

Neither the man nor the room had any color at all. 

Hearing Beosta's yell, the man at the desk looked up.

Shoe whipped around at the sound. Beosta was gone. Not again!

He heard her scream again and rushed towards where she had been. It almost sounded like it was coming from . . . 

He reached for the wall, and his hand went right through it. Whoa. He stuck his head in and found her on the ground. He held out his hand to help her up.
