Those were mostly extinct though, and were not as dangerous as some would lead you to believe.

Indeed, as most of their time was spent guzzling root idly. Root Kittens, on the other hand, held power beyond that which the average mortal, or immortal, could comprehend.

But this root dragon was different.

It still could not match the power of the Root Kitten. But while it was more powerful than normal Root Dragons it was still kill-able. And Platypus would most likely want to try.

Unfortunately, this particular Root Dragon was also very nice, and did humanitarian work in it's spare time.

[Immortal Platypus]

So Platypus decided to not kill it for now. It was still on probation in his mind though. This was because as everyone know, immortal platypi and Root Dragons are long-founded enemies. It's a blood feud.

The Root Dragon decided to end this feud by giving Platypus a tray of homemade chocolate chip cookies.

[Immortal Platypus]

Platypus greatly enjoyed this gesture of good faith and so didn't act on his blood feud impulses. But he also didn't make a hasty judgement that the dragon was good. It would take more than a plate of cookies, that could be very easily poisoned or hemalurgically spiked, to fix this feud. He also didn't eat the cookies, fearing spikes.

This made the Root Dragon sad, as it had only included the spikes because they were growing increasingly popular, and it just wanted to be friends.

Platypus could sense this, but didn't know if he could trust it or not yet.

This left the root dragon feeling negative. Now, one should never make the root dragon negative, or else they may accidentally create with i.

Tocf sighed. "Really, Nerdy? Math puns?"

[Immortal Platypus]

So Platypus tried to cheer it up. This went against about 90% of his moral code, but he did it anyway.

The Root Kitten Clan, meanwhile, were planning to dominate the universe. From their super secret organization the in Nowhere, they began plotting.

The Root Dragon was glad that Platypus seemed not to be offended by the cookies. It smiled, as much as a root dragon can smile, and headed off to serve its masters, the Root Kitten Clan.

[Telrao she/her]

The Root Kitten Clan welcomed the Root Dragon, and the Root Kitten (not to be confused with the rOot Kitten) greeted it with a barrel of freshly stolen Root from the Fountain of Root.

[NerdyAarakocra They/Them]

They planned to poison the Fountain of Root with Sqrt(-1).

[Telrao she/her]

Sqrt(-1) was a toxin that made people become Root beings - so that the universe could once more be One with the Root.

However, the Root Kittens were opposed by the Exponential Puppies.

[Immortal Platypus]

The Exponential Puppies had a plan. It was convoluted, but foolproof.

They were going to team up with the Quadratic Dogs. If the Exponential Puppies were mistwraiths, the Quadratic Dogs were the kandra.

And they planned to further bolster their troops by joining the Sine Gorillas, Cosine Orangutans, and Tangent Monkeys.

Which is where the least developed of all these beings, the Addition Amoebas, came in.

The Addition Amorbas had quite an advantage over their more-complex counterparts: simplicity. Where the Quadratic Dogs planned, the Addition Ameobas took action.

And so, they took a bunch of very large clubs and went to go beat up the Root Kittens.

This didn't go quite as well as they hoped.
