"I suppose they should." The Wind finally agreed, "I'll check on Talar now. But I can't promise it will be exactly what you asked for." There was silence, and Asela was sure the wind had left. Gourd looked astounded, "Wh-what?"

"You just entered your apprenticeship, correct? Eventually you'll learn that whoever the mysterious person indicated only by vague pronouns is, you won't find out who they are until the story hinges on it." Asela smiled wistfuly. "If you survive as long as I have, you'll learn."

" Don't worry about that part." Asela smiled reassuringly. "it's my price to pay, not yours. All you need to worry about is learning how to save the universe."

Asela shrugged. "Exactly what is sounds like. A world that existed before ours. Most think it destroyed, but I believe it is still there, behind some kind of barrier. That barrier has weakened, over the years. More and more things from the old world have begun popping up in this new one." She furrowed her brow, staring off into the distance. "I don't much like the outworlders. They're strange. It's like they don't quite work on the same rules that we do."
