Nameless appeared out of the shadows. "Skiens! Thank goodness I found you! I forgot to give you an invitation to my party. Actually, do you want just one, or...?"

Wasn't the party to watch them fight the Witherlord? :P

Yeah, but it's good manners to give them an invitation. You know, if you're going to make a party specifically to watch someone risk their lives confronting a dark lord while you kick back on a couch with a bowl of popcorn, the least you can do is invite them to said party.

Oh dear. Well, it's been spelled the other way so many times at this point...

"Waystone?" Professor Walker queried. "Does this translocator belong to you?"

"What in the-" the Knight shook his head. "You've been practicing your abilities, I see."

yea, I'm not going back and correcting them, but I'll be trying to spell it correctly from now on.

The one whom we are calling Bob laughed. "The Waystones belong to noone, but I had a hand in creating them. You can use them to shift between the locations of all of them."

"Yes, we have," the Spectra said. "We are now as ready as we can be." it turned to Nameless. "No, we will be unable to go to the party, which as you very well know. Now, if there was an after party, that would be a different matter."

"We can talk about parties later," the Knight responded. "We need to find an execution blade first, while the details are still somewhat a secret."

In front of Moni, unfamiliar characters streamed down the survey like a waterfall.

Nameless nodded thoughtfully. "I'll see if someone else is free to organize that."

Are you all right? Is this like a cool thing where you're making complex calculations, or a bad thing where you're dying?

"Short range translocation," replied Professor Walker. "Also drying my scarves. It's quite good at that."

"A blade that can kill the Witherlord. Made out of mordite, for instance."

hehehehehehehehe. "Well, that's just translocating to itself, there is a limited range for in which you can be transported around any given Waystone." the one whom we are calling Bob gave her a curious look. "I think that there are more convenient places to dry scarves than this Waystone, however, to each their own." he turned to Alex. "Sorry about that, but you should get to know the universe. I can get to you when I need to."

Alex gave a short nod after a moment of consideration, then transformed himself into an eagle and flew off.

Well that's nice. Too bad we're stuck here, unable to do anything about it.

Professor Walker climbed back inside the obelisk and transported it back to his lab.

The survey printed an invitation to Nameless's party.

Wait, how long have you been able to do that?

this is not possible, he did not come out of the obelisk, the obelisk is solid, you activate the magic to use it to shift. Also, they cannot move themselves.

The skiens made a sound of irritation. "We do not like it whe people lie."

Moni looked around the site of Nameless' party. It appeared that someone else was frantically trying to get the party ready before the attack on the Witherlord began. "Oh, Moni! Thank goodness you're here! Tell Nameless that he needs to delay the plan for at least a few pages. He can probably just make up some macguffin side quest, but- wait. Weren't you trapped somewhere?" The Knight appeared. "Ah. I see."

He did, actually.

Professor Jones glared at it. "Max!" she exclaimed. "Did you invert the sign again?"

A disheveled blond head poked out of a hatch in the side. He blinked his eyes twice, taking his bearings, then slapped a hand to his forehead. "I'm an idiot," he said. "I'm sorry, Grace. You're absolutely right, I did invert the sign... although it was a different sign this time, I'll have you know."

Professor Jones sighed and then let out a brief chuckle. "Well, at least it wasn't during class this time."

Max suddenly noticed Alex. "Oh! Hello!" He extended a hand, realized it had a glove on it, removed the glove, and proffered his hand once more. "I'm Max Walker, professor of Iterology. I can't say I've seen you around here before. Are you a student of Professor Jones, or...?"

He found a different purpose than was originally intended. :P

I did not read that through properly. Very well, then, that obelisk was not the waystone, the Obelisk is the waystone, and it was sharing space with the thing Walker came out of. stop messing with my translocation devices. If you ask nicely, the one whom we are calling Bob might let you study one, though.

Edit: I also realize that I should not have left the point where the obelisk came out of the ground open ended

You've lost me there...

I mean, if such a translocation device was left on university property, of course Professor Walker is going to study it and maybe accidentally rewire part of it.  Doesn't seem too far-fetched to me that it could be repurposed.

And it's not like the scarves dry themselves, either. They get dried when the thing transports. ZAP and they're clean.

"We need you to-"

Translocating, the survey declared. Moni was transported elsewhere.

The Obelisk is a big solid slab of granite, it has no wires, it is run completely by magic. In essence, If you can get into it it is not a Waystone, though it could be a machine using the energy and power of the Waystone.

Fair enough. Magic is just science you don't understand yet.

not in this. now, back to the story!

The one whom we are calling Bob grinned. "I see that you have learned to use some of the abilities of the Waystone. Now, what specifically is Mordite?"
