Too bad the artist didn't get the short hair right and no skirt, but a lot of the rest seems spot on from the description we got, even the little half smile. So her being on the cover to me makes it seem like she's going to have a big-ish role. Edited October 17, 2017 by The Invested Beard
Subvisual Haze Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Malata is middle aged and had very short boyish hair...
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 (edited) I think my biggest issue with these covers is that, if I didn't know better, I'd swear this was pre-Catascande Scadrial. It's that red sun against a black earth, with grey swirls... A few alterations, and it would have been a great WoA cover. Edited October 18, 2017 by Kingsdaughter613
Caesura she/her Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I never realised they were the UK/US covers. I like the US covers, but NZ bookshops sell the UK ones apparently... Now I have to buy them all like that to keep my collection consistent! One thing I appreciate about the UK covers is the colour scheme thing they have going. All the covers are in the same style, but each series has a different colour. Mistborn is blue, Stormlight is red, Elantris is green, Warbreaker is purple... All the books look related, but series are differentiated by colour. It's kinda neat 1
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I think that's my issue actually. Mistborn should be red and Stormlight blue, in my opinion. I associate red and black with TFE Scadrial. Blue is the color I connect with Stormlight. I don't associate green with Elantris at ALL. Silver would be my pick there. Purple for Warbreaker is the only one I can really see, and even there I think indigo and gold would have been a better mix.
Head Crabs Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Really doesnt seem to fit the description of Malata. Looks more like a weary and bloodied jasnah. Fresh from fighting hordes of voidbringers.

Watchcry he/him Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 AND the rocks around her look pretty burned.
The Invested Beard Posted December 4, 2017 Author Posted December 4, 2017 Whelp looks like we know exactly who is on the UK cover now: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/173-oathbringer-san-francisco-signing/#e8642 It's the same person on the US cover. Jasnah. I think I'm more partial to Whelan's interpretation.
Ailvara Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I'm surprised so many people prefer the US cover. It's not bad, but just a bit too much of a... "classic fantasy cover". Those UK editions with reduced color palette are just way more elegant, modern and consistent, even if not every single graphic is great. I must tell you, that the polish ones are quite epic: 1
StormingTexan he/him Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Those Polish ones are cool but also completely random lol.
