Popular Post ccstat he/him Posted January 20, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) The pitch: What if Dr. Seuss wrote the Stormlight Archive? EDIT: The completed book is in the next post. Original post archived in the spoiler: Spoiler I will be attending Boskone in February (event thread here), and I've been planning to create a physical gift to give to Brandon. Unfortunately, my work schedule will not allow me to complete it in time, so I am hoping to find some artistic sharders who want to help. I recognize that I am not giving a lot of lead time on this, and I'm sorry--I've been debating about whether or not to ask for collaborators. If I don't find anyone or it doesn't get finished on time, I'm prepared to postpone a few years to the next signing I attend, or to ship a delayed product directly to him. It would be more fun to be able to present it to him in person, though, so that is the hope. The pitch: What if Dr. Seuss wrote the Stormlight Archive? I've expanded my original draft on that idea and added tributes to both The Cat in the Hat and Fox in Sox. There is still room for improvement/additions to the text, but the main thing that is lacking is Seuss-style illustrations to accompany the text. Ideally, the final product would turn out along the lines of the amazing Where's My Chull? that @ExMachina et al made in 2014 for the Words of Radiance tour. (If you haven't seen that Terry Pratchett tribute yet, you should go look at it right now.) Note: I bring up Where's My Chull? mostly to highlight the great work they did on it. The Dr. Seuss-styled illustrations of this project should be less demanding than the line art and coloring that went into theirs. Due to the nature of the piece, we can have a lot of text on one page with only one or two illustrations, or we can spread out the text across many pages the way many Seuss books are laid out. This means there is a huge amount of freedom available in terms of length--I estimate anywhere from 6 to 20 pages. Therefore we have room for a lot of people if there is a lot of interest, and your own time commitment can be as large or small as you like. If you are interested in contributing, post here or PM me. I look forward to hearing from you! Edited February 18, 2017 by ccstat changed title 22
Popular Post ccstat he/him Posted February 18, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted February 18, 2017 It's finished! Or, as finished as it will get for a while. I printed a physical copy to give to Brandon at Boskone, and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. I wish that I had been able to put more illustrations in it, but there simply wasn't time. I am inordinately fond of my Thaylen eyebrows illustration, though. I feel like it really captures the spirit of the mashup. I'm also quite pleased with the Unkalaki tongue twisters. If only I had figured out a way to stick "Airsick lowlanders!" in somewhere. Anyway, here is the book! (Spoilered for size) Spoiler I hope you like it! I also had some partial drafts for Stormlight versions of other Seuss books that I didn't make the cut for inclusion. So there may eventually be a sequel or improved draft that includes The Bitter Battle Book (about the war on the shattered plains) and a version of Green Eggs and Ham ("Amaram, Lord Amaram, I do not like the Diagram"). 106
Jofwu he/him Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 "Move yours up; my pen moves too! What else can these spren-gem-pens do?" "Come meet my friends, Surge One and Surge Two." I'm dying here. This is incredible work @ccstat. I'll be reading this to my daughter when she's a bit older. Hope you can find time to do more illustrations! Or that someone else pitches in. 1

I only saw his to the first page, but I think he appreciated it. On 8/27/2018 at 11:37 AM, Ashspren said: I really want to see “Amaram, Lord Amaram, I do not like the Diagram”...
