I always thought Fain had to convert at night, but that's a good point. Gamma, can Fain convert during the day?

Posted

I'm fairly sure they're told at the beginning of the day. That's what usually happens with conversions, anyway.

But... how do you explain the detained claim, though? That's the thing that still doesn't make sense if he's Fain.

People were going to talk about how they targeted him, but failed eventually. So, if he claimed he was detained then he couldn't be Fain! Perfect excuse, Fain converted someone, so, anyone who was detained or roleblocked couldn't be Fain.

So, assuming that he could get a Channeler to target him (unlikely in my opinion, although it kind of depends on who the Channelers are), he'd also have to lie about being detained and hope that no one countered him on that. Maybe it's just me, but it was my impression that only one person was detained last cycle. So that'd be really easy to counterclaim, and then boom, he gets lynched. In your version, he didn't even know if anyone would be targeting him, so there's really not that much of an advantage to claiming that he was detained just on the off chance that someone did target him.

Also, he claimed while everyone was thinking that the detainee might have been an eliminator. Still not sure why he did that, actually. Even worse move to lie about it, though.

And he's also claimed Dreamwalker. Why do both?

I mean, he could be Fain... But I'm really not seeing it. And if your theory is true, we'll see it when he dies tonight to the Wolfbrother kill. Which would be just fine with me. :)

The man who called himself Nik glared upon the bloody, motionless face of the corpse fastened in the chair before him with disdain. I’m losing it, he thought to himself, the scent of Mashadar’s taint so thick it clouded his senses, his eyes darting at unreal wisps stirring in the shadows. I’ve never let a man die before I was ready to let him, not even when I was apprenticing to be a Hand of the Light. But how could he not, with the Corruption spreading all around him, draining the sanity from any soul within it's reach.

Nik spat in the face of the Corrupted man, disgusted by his ignorance as much as his own lack of self control. Padan knows, he told himself. He knows you’re hunting him and he’s toying with you, sending you bait, distracting you so that he can carry out his plans undisturbed… but no more. The young Fain almost regretted killing this man; though he did not know him long he quickly learned he was innocent, even if his rage and paranoia would not let him believe otherwise. He just had to know the face of the man - or perhaps, woman, if the Lord of the Grave's gifts could disguise gender - who cursed him, or at least that's what Nik kept telling himself. But no, this man was just an innocent bystander caught in something so much bigger than him, without ever really understand what exactly that was. And now he was dead for it, and the man who killed him couldn’t even remember his name. A pity, if Nik had the heart left to feel it.

Wiping the gore off his knives on the dead man’s torn breeches, Nik sighed. Half a day and most of the night he wasted detaining and interrogating this man. It was time he’d never get back, and thus time Padan could use to further set his plans in motion. Weary, he slipped the blades into the sheathes at his waist and grabbed his once-too-white coat, now so long soaked in dust and dirt that to even suggest it had been anything but a dusky brown would seem an Aes Sedai lie, and he left the abandoned barn, not bothering to look back at the evidence he left behind.

Nik’s eyes did not so much as drop as he touched the saidin and set the barn ablaze, weaving fire to turn a stack of dry hay to flame and air to feed it until it touched the walls and turned the whole structure into an unrelenting inferno. Taking the next left sharply, the man blended into the darkness and seemed to vanish entirely before anyone could see him and name him a murderer or an arson.

I... Um... Please tell me that wasn't an actual claim? Please?

If he's Orlok's, it won't make a huge difference.

I considered that, but I thought there would be reference to a dead Warder in the RP in that case.

I'd really like to be wrong about that. :)

Some (more) updates and clarifications! (again)
Any player who gets detained is notified such at the beginning of the day cycle.
Thief-takers who target a player who took no action or didn't target anybody else would get a result like "Nothing" or "Didn't find anything", something along those lines. (Or I'll just say you smelled body odor)
The write-up mentions a whitecloak detainment if it happens, not how many there were, if multiple.

Dragon Fangs are considered actions, and can be role-blocked, redirected with ta'veren, etc. They can still write on Dreamwalkers doors because them being in the dreamworld wouldn't make a difference of you drawing on their door. :P

And while the troll is funny to troll with, Padan Fain does indeed start alone and has to build their team from there. And Conversions happen at night, and can be redirected or role-blocked, etc. Players are notified at beginning of Day cycle.

I know I missed a few, but these ones were being asked quite a bit, so there ya go! I'll try getting some more answered as I see them, and will (eventually) try getting all my updates compiled together in a comprehensive post somewhere for ease of viewing.

You'll have to be more specific than that :P I technically claimed two roles in that one post, and I'm pretty sure I've implied more in my previous RP's.

I saw Whitecloak, but Channeler seemed much more prominent. :P I think that's the one she was referring to.

Ah, well then. PAFO.

skeptical.png How about the extraordinarily obvious and on the nose claim of Channeler?

Yes. Maill is correct. That's the one I meant. (I also saw Whitecloak, but you've foreshadowed that before.)

Flavor wise, Nik is a ex-Whitecloak Channeler. Whether or not that, or any other roles I have implied but not explicitly stated in my RP, is canon in terms of this actual game*, will have to be determined upon my inevitable death  :P

Okay. I'll live with that. You still working on those big analysis posts of each player?

I still have no idea what Lomion's character is... I should do some RP for him. (Or her. I haven't even decided on gender yet, really.)

Or I could go keep reading through LG3... (which has some... decidedly odd bits) Or rereading Codex Alera... or, actually, dinner. Dinner is a good thing.

Is it just me, or is the thread this game noticeably more casual and with shorter posts than normal? I'm not sure I like that, but it's interesting.

What's the asterisk for?

2 Darkfriends in 2 Days...

We actually knew 2 Eliminators for certain after Day 1, and we still didn't manage that in LG21...

I'm beginning to suspect Gamma put in a secret role that allowed you to fake the alignment of a victim in the write-up...

Since no one else has addressed this (from what my quick skim showed) I feel the need to reiterate it. When we just happened to kill a Forsaken Sart on Day One one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind was Elsecaller-a-la-MR10 interference. But I didn't want to say anything about it because I had argued for us not to get lost trying to plan for secret roles, and that I figured it could bring unnecessary suspicion onto me. But with Gunshy just happening to be a Darkfriend Whitecloak, which so many players kept mentioning during that cycle, that concern has only worsened for me. Could they both just be really lucky coincidences? Most likely. But still, Nik is a natural devil's advocate and I'm trying to channel him this game, if no one else has noticed that already.

I might tackle that project again but just those first six were a huge time sink for me, so I might try a different approach to things from here on out, haven't really decided. While I love all the activity, it really does turn my analysis into a chore when I get too busy to keep up with all the posts as they happen.

I accidentally typed RP again when I meant to say actual game in the original post.

EDIT: Off to bed, goodnight ladies and gents.

Yeah, I tend to try not to get into those types of paranoid theories because they tend to make everyone just a bit too paranoid. Gamma, could you tell us if there's a role that can change the appearance of someone's alignment upon death?

Agreed on the point that so much activity makes doing in depth analysis on each player really tough. I am usually doing big player list posts at this point, but it's hard to get the time to do a full one that has any real analysis in it. But I don't mind too much, because I really enjoy lots of posts, just because it makes the game that much more interesting.

Aww, you don't want me to ruin all of my fun, do you? That's definitely a PAFO!!!

Heh, fair enough.

Edit: Right now, I'd like to hear more from phattemer, Winter, Sheep, Hellscythe, Araris and Rubik a little as well, although he did help lynch Gunshy, so I'm leaning villager for him right now. I'm leaning villager for a few of the other players listed above too, but still would like to hear more from them.

I'm surprised not too many people have asked this yet, but yes, you can have Group PMs. But a new PM must be created for when you want to add somebody (as in, nobody can be added into already existing PMs) [You can all probably guess why I've been reluctant to clarify this before now....]

As the sun began to set, and night settled on Drell's Crossing, Jak made his way to the rooftop he'd chosen for his new home, which would hopefully keep him out of sight from any suspicious characters. He'd eventually found Lorien, or rather, Lorien had found him, and he'd reported that he'd seen "werewolves" on his patrols the previous night. The man had gone pale as he spoke, so it seemed he had indeed seen some type of beast out there. Just great. Not only do we have Darkfriends in our village, now we've got some kind of wolf creatures too. Light! Maybe I should just get out of here.

Even as he thought about leaving, he knew he couldn't actually go. Something about this place was keeping him here. Almost as if he had no control over his own actions. No, I've got to see this through to the end, whatever that may be.

Jak neared the building he'd picked out earlier for his new home, The Golden Dagger, and began to silently climb to the roof, but couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. The past days events were no comfort either. They'd learned that Gunshy, the shop owner who'd sold dirt of all things, had been a Darkfriend. First it was Sarah, and now Gunshy. Two Darkfriends revealed in such a short span of time, and wolves on the loose were enough to cause Jak to consider trying to get a room somewhere. "I suppose as Mayor, I could maybe get a room if I just asked," he mumbled to himself, considering the dangers of staying out during the night. He hesitated for a moment, then walked to the front of the inn and and opened the door.

His senses were immediately bombarded as light poured out from the common room and chatter from the townsfolk erupted when he opened the door. This was a mistake. I don't belong here, he thought anxiously as he slowly made his way to the bar, where the owner of the place stood looking out over the crowd. There was quite a few people here, for all the events that had been happening lately. It seemed that this was a good place to meet and discuss what was going on in the town. Jak kept his hat low over his eyes, trying to stay unnoticed by the crowd.

"Excuse me. Keland, was it?" he asked, as he leaned forward against the bar. "You own this place right? I don't have much money, but I need a place to stay for the night, if there's somewhere available. I'll work for it, if I must. I have no musical talents," Jak said, as he grimaced slightly. "I've had my voice likened to the braying of a dying mule and I've never been able to play even the simplest of instruments, but give me any other work and I'll do it to the best of my ability. Is that agreeable?"

He felt like a fool. He'd never needed the comforts or safety of walls surrounding him before. He was a wanderer. Without a place to call home. This town was poisoning him, making him see enemies in the shadows he'd once felt a part of.

Well, there you go Wilson. You're not Fain yet, but I figure I could get to that at some point once we've talked a bit, if you really want to RP as Fain. :P And anyone else can feel free to "recognize" Jak if you're character is in The Golden Dagger too. :)
