I think I've figured out how to make the Fantastic Beasts movie enjoyable despite its rather cringe-worthy looking take on Wizarding America. Headcanon: Wizarding America is actually a lot cooler (and more American) than the FB trailers make it look. The reason? During his visit, Newt Scamander encountered the Jersey Devil. The experience was so traumatic that he blacked out much of his visit, but when he returned to the U.K., the Ministry demanded a report. Newt panicked and just made up a bunch of stuff about what he thought America must be like, and since he didn't remember anything else and wasn't keen to return, he eventually came to believe his own story. Brilliant! I still do want to see it, even if everything Rowling is doing nowadays makes me roll my eyes. 51 minutes ago, Kobold King said: That basically sums up the entire forum. I'm just so sad that the Potterverse has gone so downhill. Despite numerous plotholes and unfortunate implications, the original series was one of my favorite things ever. But I've had to resign myself to ignoring canon, which is something I hate to do, so... yeah.
Oversleep Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I've just realized that "Roshar" by itself follows convention of almost-pallindrome "Rashar" and "Roshor" are pallindromes... (since we acknowledge it's about the sounds - 'sh' is a single sound) 1

(since we acknowledge it's about the sounds - 'sh' is a single sound) Roshar as a whole is brilliantly conceived. Its shape is based off of a thing called a Julia Set (a complex set of numbers which I do not even remotely understand) and it's beautiful. Julia set 3d slice animation.ogg

The way the, uh, 3D numbers (?) move around in the animation is just beautiful to me. I have just realized that the way I dress is like a more thrift-shop-y 10th/11th/12th Doctor.

I was actually really excited to hear about the last two projects, because I wanted them to be as good as the original series. But CC was so bad I thought it might be a prank, and the latest FB trailer has me hoping for a mild dumpster fire at best. So now I'm resigned to ignoring canon. Which sucks.
Quiver he/him Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Is dreading the thought of a 48 hour work week normal, or a sign of laziness?

That's exactly what I say when you talk about 48 hour workweeks. Even at a crummy job here, an employee isn't likely to work more than 40, because few bosses want to pay overtime.

In some jobs, if you don't work a "full" workweek of 40 hours, the job isn't required to provide other benefits like health insurance, a pension, or similar.
Oversleep Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Everytime I have a realization about Cosmere I''m admiring it more and more. I fell into the rabbit hole about year and half ago and started digging a year ago. How deep does it go? Every time I start thinking I'm getting the hang of this I realize something which just shows me how much more there is. EDIT: WoB digging is far more interesting than casual wiki walks. EDIT2: Ok, by that point I should've already painted "There's always another secret" on the ceiling so that everytime I wake up and fall asleep I'm reminded of that. Did you know it's possible to pass a Nahel bond like a Seon can be Passed? Edited November 13, 2016 by Oversleep
+Slowswift Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I just saw a Walmart ad... ...for Thanksgiving. FINALLY, a corporation acknowledges that November exists! 1
