The debate is over, and I'm sorry I got involved.

Can we please drop it? I'm starting to feel like a pariah who isn't welcome. :/

Everyone should feel welcome here.

You're always welcome, Twi, you're our lovely forum auntie. :)

I was thinking, like, lovely cool forum big-sister, or lovely cool forum first cousin.

Well, Kaymyth had Forum Mom as her member title for a while, and since there's a fair bit of evidence for the "Kay and Twi are long-lost sisters" theory, that would make me the pug-obsessed forum aunt. :P

There was also a discussion on the Forum Family somewhere a while back.

...hey, do we have a forum father?

Sounds accurate. Yeah, who is Forum Dad?

Chaos, maybe? Contrary to his name, he makes sure everyone's in line and other vaguely parental things.

I dunno, I think Josh and Mi'ch are the official Forum parents.

Hmm... It's a hard question.

Whoever it is has about 13,200 children, so I don't envy 'em. :P

I was gonna comment on the wage gap thing but.......we need more happies and less divisiveness right now.

Hey, hopefully some less divisive election news: DC voted to become the 51st state! We might see the flag change for the first time in almost 70 years. But I thought Puerto Rico already had a (carefully worded) referendum that could start them on the path to statehood, as well. Does anyone remember how that turned out?

I don't actually know what that means. I'm just amused because among American Jews its a running joke that Israel is the 51st state of america. I guess that joke is now outdated.

We don't really have a Father Figure. I guess Chaos could be the dad who's always at work and jumps in to vaguely tell the children off when there's too much arguing?

*hugs for everyone*

Debating with outliners (not on this site)….

Them: You need an outline for nonfiction. Outlines are essential. Trust me. I was an English teacher.

What nonfiction are you writing?

I'm not at the moment; the argument is hypothetical. So far as I can tell, it's stemming from a misunderstanding that outlines and research are one in the same, so they're saying that to write nonfiction you need an outline. Thing is, when I write essays or other nonfiction, I do a lot of research and I keep my notes close at hand. I just don't make an outline.

That's understandable.

I mean, you nonoutliners are crazy. I can't even write a paragraph in fiction without knowing where it ends, much less anything else.

It is pretty hard to write a sentence without knowing what it is, ture. :P  There's just a difference between making up the next couple paragraphs or even scenes/chapters up on the fly and having all the important book details down before actually writting it.
