Did anyone figure our the nature of Vin's earring before the reveal?

Now days whenever i read a new Sanderson book i always try to look for clues and foreshadowing in his text for future reveals or just easter eggs about the cosmere. But the Mistborn books were my introduction to BS so i just read all 3 books in a quick blur and managed not to pick up a single hint of anything at all.

But for those of you who read more cautiously/slowly and put more thought into the story after each chapter or those who were forced to wait one year between each book and perhaps re-read them in between, did any of you figure out what Vin's earring was? Now in hindsight if seems obvious to me but then i suppose everything does when you know the answer.

It's funny, that twist couldn't have been more off my radar. The first time my wife reads it, she calls the earring out nearly instantly. The second time it's mentioned she's got it pegged. As soon as it becomes clear what Hemalurgy does, it's the first thing she says. "Vin's earring works the same way."

I think you nailed it - different reading styles. She picked up on a mystery and it was a the front of her mind the entire time she read. When I read books, I'm kind of just along for the ride. My wife reads much faster than me though, so I don't think our example fits the theory that slow readers catch more. I think she just focusses on different things. She doesn't catch as much of the character interaction as I do, but she actively hunts for answers and clues to particular issues.

I was suspicious of it from the beginning.  I didn't understand how it worked because I had no idea what hemalurgy was, but I felt that it had something to do with her extra seeking skills.  As soon as Saze started explaining some stuff I knew for sure.  Still, I didn't understand the whole ruin speaking/preservation listening/implications of it all.

It took me until the well of ascension scene to figure out that it was somehow something bad.  After that, as we learned more about hemalurgy, I eventually figured it out.  There were many, many, other things that I missed though...

One thing that I'm particularly proud of from reading SoS, was figuring out who Bleeder was way early in the story...

I read, I sometimes (often) get interrupted. One time, I was reading an Agatha Christie book (can't remember which one) and while I wasn't reading it, I had an absent thought, "Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a book where the Watson-character was the killer?" I finish the book and discover that the Watson in the story was indeed the killer. I have never forgotten that event.

That said, Vin's earring blindsided me, I thought she was just really good at Bronze Allomancy. It didn't help that I missed the part in TFE where Vin's earring comes out. And really, we're told she's really really good with Allomancy for three books, she jumped like a caffeinated grasshopper while burning pewter, for Harmony's sake.

I catch the earring as Spike as soon as we discover how the hemalurgt works (I can't remember if during the "Survivor of Flame"'s born or when we see how Koloss are created. But I didn't understand that se got extra Bronze power from it...And only later I understand the deep implication of it.

But a Friend of mine while he was reading HoA text me something like: "NOooooooooooooooooo The Earring, you ****** to have to say to me!"....Therefore many people was really surprised by the revelation during the final sequences.

I was one of those folks who was active online between the release of WoA and HoA, so we got to do all kinds of little nit-picky things with the books during the wait.  We knew that something very odd had happened with Vin's earring, and thought it might have something to do with Hemalurgy and her mother's little "present" for her daughter, but I didn't really put all the pieces together until it was laid out for me.

Although I did spot that she could only draw in the mists when the earring was gone.  So it didn't come as a complete surprise.
