  1. maybe Navani will attempt to build HAL 9000 and fly to Brazie?
  2. This chapter got me interested in Mosh again, and what's up with his new Fused title and what does it mean? He Who Quiets Jezrien??? Which unknown 11th herald did the He Who Quiets kill during the last desolation and what sexy herald power did that honorblade possess? this raises many questions
  3. I'm curious if Mrazie knows about Shallan's 'The Three'. Because if he doesn't know about Viel etc, I don't see why he would just assume Shallan would assassinate Ialai.
  4. Dammit, we're down to one chapter/week Also RIP Shallan, long live Veil, the Main personality.
  5. I just wanna say how much I have come to love the Shallan chapters in Oathbringer, they are really just so much fun. Such interesting character development is going on that I was happy today when the Kaladin chapter was so short, because that must mean more of the huge wall of text on my page must belong to the upcoming Shallan chapter. Trading potential new info on the voidbringers for a chapter mostly containing inner monologue from Shallan is not something I thought I would have done before starting Oathbringer. Not so anymore; broken Shallan, here weee GO! Choo Choo!
  6. I don't think Ialai knows who Mrazie really is, to her he is probably just some highly regarded adviser with connections to the criminal world. Mrazie is probably getting more out of their relationship, with Ialai none the wiser.
  7. Unfortunately no, Hoid just hopped to Sel with all the remaining Cadmium and Bendalloy left on Scadrial. What you, as an allomancer, instead have is an unlimited supply of gold, a grumpy wolf hound for company and a sharp box cutter. Go!
  8. Question for Brandon: A train leaves Baltimore for NYC going 60 mph. At the same time, on an adjacent track, a train leaves NYC heading for Baltimore going 45 mph. NYC is 280 miles from Baltimore. How far are the trains from Baltimore when they pass?
  9. Just finished a reread of HoA and I want to share a part of the book that i found funny. In Urteau at the Citizen's house there is a garden that is described as torn up and plowed under. In this garden Beldre is described as sitting excluded, looking sad and alone only in the company of a lone little shrub that is also described as sad. I just found it hilarious how much Brandon thought to write about this inconsequential little plant in a ruined garden, so here are some quotes I would like to share: "There was a bench in the yard. It sat before a small shrub. It was the only plant left in the garden; the rest had been torn up and plowed under, leaving behind blackish brown earth." "Beldre sat down on her bench, hands held motionless in her lap, looking down at the sad shrub." "A part of him wanted to ask - to be brash, as the Survivor would have been, and hop down to demand of this solemn, solitary girl why she stared at that plant with such melancholy." "He took another step forward. The rough earth lay torn beneath his feet, covered by an inch of ash, the dreary remnants of what had once been fertile ground. To his right stood the lone shrub that Beldre often came to gaze at." Fate unknown, this plant most likely passed away during the Catacendre due to low priority on Sazed to-save-list. A funny passage tough Edit: Oops, just saw that I posted this in the Elantris forum instead of Mistborn
  10. Ruin and Preservation are two opposites, therefore making Harmony kind of impotent and not at all a very cool combo of forces. Which two Shards would you combine to create to coolest combination of Shards?
  11. I still don't really understand what Feruchemy has to do with Lerasium from your argument, but natc indicated there is a WoB about this so i may try to look this up later. Natc also beat me to it, but Lerasium IS a sure-fire way to grant Allomancy: you just beat up someone til you snap, simple. The whole noble class of the final empire was doing just this for god knows how many years.
  12. Why would Lerasium be useless if it didn't bypass the snap? And isn't Lerasium is 100% of Preservation, which only grants Allomancy. So why would Hoid's decision to steal another Lerasium-bead be based on his eventual Ferucemy when Lerasium only grants Allomancy?
  13. Brandon has RAFO'd when asked if Hoid has swallowed the Lerasium bead or not. I have read theories about him hiding it somewhere, made an hemalurgy spike out of it or perhaps he has devised another use for it. Perhaps he ate it, the point is we don't know. He somehow has a feruchemical power so i dont see why his Soothing or Rioting has to be of the Lerasium bead. BS said that the Lerasium rewrites sDNA but would that bypass the snapping? You can have allomantic powers and never be able use it until you snapped. Eland was beaten near to death during his noble childhood for this reason, so he already had cracks in his soul, so we don't know if the Lerasium requires a cracked soul or not. But your almost certainly right about him only healing what he sees himself as, i ought to have figured that out (slaps palm to forehead).
  14. I have a question about Hoid's abilities: We know that in order to use investiture a person has to have their soul cracked/"snapped" in some way. While we do not have confirmation about the Lerasium bead or his potential Awakening, we do know he uses some form of Lightweaving and Feruchemy and possible Allomancy. We also know that if Hoid have the healing-ability to heal his soul. It just struck me as odd when i thought about it today how Hoids soul-healing ought to have screwed up his possible use of Investiture, which requires a non-healed soul. Is there an explanation for this somewhere that i have overlooked?
  15. Oh nothing i expect, i was perhaps a bit harsh about the characters, i just didn't think they were up to Sandersons usual standard. My negativity was mostly based on the epic-world itself, even another core possibility would most certainly have epics in them and i just feel that the whole superhero theme has run it's course. It was a fun idea, what i liked the most was this idea that the usage of epic powers made the users themselves evil. Supercool idea. The explanation behind this however, was not. That an extra terrestrial/sullen teenager who was skulking was behind it all was a bit underwhelming and i would rather read something else by Sanderson then a continuation of this universe, that's all.
  16. This is terrible news! Normally i like BS characters but Davids bad puns got old really quick. Not to mention that Mizzy-character he introduced in Firefight. Steelheart was good, Firefight was OK and Calamity forgettable. The cool ideas and concepts of this world has been milked already and the story-arc alone doesn't hold up anymore. If BS really must take his awesome writing time away from the Cosmere to write bland YA, i would much rather read the followup to the Rithmatist.
  17. Now days whenever i read a new Sanderson book i always try to look for clues and foreshadowing in his text for future reveals or just easter eggs about the cosmere. But the Mistborn books were my introduction to BS so i just read all 3 books in a quick blur and managed not to pick up a single hint of anything at all. But for those of you who read more cautiously/slowly and put more thought into the story after each chapter or those who were forced to wait one year between each book and perhaps re-read them in between, did any of you figure out what Vin's earring was? Now in hindsight if seems obvious to me but then i suppose everything does when you know the answer.
  18. Great catch, this sounds interesting as we know Brandon has said Hemalurgy could be important/a big deal in the future cosmere, perhaps this is a subtle foreshadow? But i have a question regarding your spren-die statement: I was under the impression that a Nahel-bonded spren died whenever the human broke whatever oath that person swore to strengthen the bond, not just a simple death of the KR. If that were the case, then every bonded spren would eventually die...
  19. If Kaladin were to die heroically on Nalthis and be Returned, would that Returned have slave brands?
  20. Szeth nearly snuck up on Kaladin and vice versa in the storm. They both spent a fair amount of time above the clouds in sunlight. They were also in front of the Highstormwall for a while. My issue was of how Nale could follow them while they flying around in those places, not inside the raging storm itself, but now i have been convinced he most likely used a fabrial to conceal himself during these moments. I never argued this. This is the whole reason Szeth flew back down again, he was running out of stormlight and dared not heal himself in his fight so he went were stormlight were in abundance. No, my point was that if Nale was using an Honorblade, which consumes more stormlight than regular surgebinding, then he would glow even brighter when he was flying around. But as i stated, it seems likely he just used a fabrial to cover himself up, nothing more.
  21. Ah i never thought of trapping the 10 spren of Surgebinding to a fabrial, but it does seem likely that's what he did with Regrowth. But i'm not sure with the Illumination fabrial because Pattern states that the Cryptics have had no contact with the physical world since the fall of the Radiants. But maybe Nalan's fabrial predates that. An interesting thought about trapping spren tough: If you could trap an Honorspren, which is a small part of Honor, could you then with a sufficiently crafted fabrial trap the Stormfather himself, since he is just a larger piece of Honor?
  22. Yeah he might have his own Honorblade but if that's so then he must have followed Kaladin and Szeth in the air which i find unlikely because they would have seen him doing so, considering all the stormlight an honorblade consume. His blade does not have the Illumination-surge so he must have some other way of obscuring himself.
  23. What i can figure out is Nalan. When he revived Szeth at the end of WoR he stated said that he waited until after Szeth was dead but before his brain died to revive him, (probably using a fabrial) which he stated was only a matter of seconds. First, how could he see/know this exact moment since it was in the middle of an apocalyptic clash between a highstorm and an everstorm which threw whole plateaus above the clouds. Either he was standing were Szeth's body fell (unlikely) or he saw this from a distance somehow, kind of like how the stormfather could interact with Dalinar at Urithiru. Second, Nalan somehow transports Szeth's body quickly because when Szeth awakes he thinks his in the Frostlands (at least we know he is not on the shattered planes) which means his body has traveled quite a bit from the location of his death. Perhaps throw the Cognitive realm? From what i know Nalan seems to only use "common" Roshar gadgets like that Reshi-dragon-thingy that swallowed Stormlight, that fabrial to revive Szeth (uncommon fabrial sure, but still a man-made fabrial not some type of surge) and he and his crones displayed shardblades in Azir. No Heraldy/Godly powers it seems, just something anybody could do with the proper knowledge so how could he do what he did? Is there a WoB on this or is there a 17thshard theory out there on this?
  24. The question borrowed from the musings of the famous Lord Mistborn and the New Ascendancy broadsheet. Since both Ruin and Preservation had a metal it stands to reason Harmony has a Metal of its own right? My guess is this Ettmetal the Jamaicans used to power their ships I apologize if this topic has been brought up before, couldn't find it through search bar
  25. Personally i'm sure they are sentient, otherwise why would Hoid bother to be surprised by them if they were just mindless animals? And it's an interesting idea that Ryshadium can be bonded with someone in some way. If that is the case maybe the death of Sureblood/loss of bond will have a negative effect on Adolin? Perhaps Sadeas would think so?
