Everyone called him Reader, for that is what he did.

Every day, students and Scrivs would see him in the Stacks, either reading yet another book, or writing something while glaring at the nearest student. Nobody quite remembered when precisely he had shown up, though they knew it hadn’t been long. Those who ask the Archivist about him get a knowing smile, and little else. When they turn to the Scrivs instead, they get shrugs and wishes for more information.

Rumors abound about him of course. He’s read every book in the Archive. He’s secretly the son of the Chronicler. He knows the name of Ink, and uses it to write a book a day. He’s an excellent singer when you spike his drink. He built the four-plate door.

When approached about the rumors, he panicked, and said that he didn’t know how somebody had figured that out. When pressed further, he refused to reveal which rumor was true.

But at the end of the day, nobody truly cares to know anymore about him. He neither helps nor hinders anyone’s studies. He’s simply another oddity of the University. And that is precisely how he likes it.

Questions;

If you win a Talent Pipe, and somebody else gives you theirs, do you get twenty talents per cycle, or just the base ten?

Can a Player become a Master in multiple fields?

So, uh, hi guys. I’m back for this game at least. Not sure if I’ll stick around afterwards.

Alrighty, PMses.

1. Are we allowed to freely PM people? I must have missed this being explicitly spelled out in the rules.

2. Could you explain the "catch the liar" ability a little further? Does it refer to an entire PM or just one message? And if just one message, can the lie be further drilled down? For example, suppose I, an Arithmetic El'the, said in a message to Mailliw, "I'm a Master Namer. Sunday is the day directly after Wednesday in a standard week."

Then Mailliw tries to catch me in a lie. Will his answer be an automatic "Yes, Kipper lied," simply because I said the faulty statement about the order of the week, or can he drill down further?

3. If someone interrogates us, are we allowed to attempt to evade the questions, or must we answer the entire question with no omissions, exactly as the asker intended?

4. I have no idea what any of this IP, d8, and d10 stuff is. Would be great if someone could explain...

If you have two Talent Pipes you would get twenty talents per cycle. I'm not sure why someone would give you Talent Pipes if you had already had some, but in theory, if they did, it would double the benefit.

You can only be a Master of one field at any given time. If you're asking about something else....PAFO. :P

1. It wasn't explicitly spelled out. Yes, you can freely PM people, but your PMs could get intercepted and spied on because you can't really trust your courier.

2. If you're referring to the Plum Bob, Maill would use it and target you. I would flesh out with Maill exactly how many questions he wants to ask and what those questions are. Once the questions have been okayed, the next turn, I would start up a PM between the two of you, he would ask his questions, and you have to answer truthfully. You cannot lie.

3. Again, if you're talking about the Plum Bob, you can't be evasive. However, the questions are very basic questions, and should be answerable in one word. Questions that require more explanation for their answers aren't basic questions, and therefore wouldn't pass muster with the GMs.

4. IP is shorthand for Insanity Points. It's the same for EP and DP (Elevation Points and Discipline Points, respectively). d8 and d10 are dice sides. So d8 is an 8-sided die and a d10 is a 10-sided die. Most of the references to the type of dice being used is to show the chance you have of having something happen. I think all references to the d8's were removed since those are specific to the GMs and the Eolian, but the d10 is for Insanity, and that's relevant to players because all you need is 12 IP to crack, and with a 10-sided die, if  you're unlucky on the roll, and you've done basically anything to add to your Insanity that turn, you're basically certain to go insane. So it's to give the players the opportunity to decide if they want to do something that could send them to the Crockery.

I have no idea what this even is. But 3 different posts for rules text?!?! I'm in.

There were rumors of a student who had been the victim of sympathy gone wrong, who had gone mad from binding his mind to the Akashic records. He had been known as a genius, but now he never spoke, barely ate, and spent his time in the rookery drawing strange symbols on the floor and walls. Then one day, he looked up, his long black hair shadowing his eyes, ragged clothing showing ribs clearly visible through his skin. He cocked his head to the side as if listening to some nonexistent sound. Then he faced the wall, and spoke for the first time in years. "Break," he commanded, his voice filled with power to crush mountains and bury seas. The wall shattered outwards into pieces, none bigger than a fingernail. He spoke again. "Repair," his clothing stitching itself back up, gaining thread from nowhere, until it was once again the uniform of a El'the. "Firm," and the air shimmered outside his new doorway, forming a path to into the sky. The Mind of Akasha strode out. There was going to be bloodshed at this school, and he was commanded to put a stop to it. Using whatever means possible.

Yes, I'm putting his name down as "Mind of Akasha."

I was actually referring to the Linguistic Analysis ability with the second question. Sorry for mixing terms.

I hate you, Wilson. There’s no way I’m going to have enough time to play this one - and I've wanted to for a while.

Same here. <_<

I'm playing anyways. Sign me up as Delta, a person who studies things.

Ah. Yeah, Linguistic Analysis is just the GM saying if the person told a lie at all, no matter how simple or complex the lie. You're not told what the lie is, just that the person told a lie. Or didn't tell a lie.

It says each Master gets 5 DP. Is that total?

Are El'the, Re'lar, and E'lir promoted from the same pool?

Ummm, one loophole. I could just borrow a 1000 talents from devi, and then no one could buy my mommet. Is that intended? I think not....

Anyways, quite excitedly, I'm joining up as Hmmmmmmmmm..... don't know yet. I'll add a name and short back story later. Gotta rush right now. :)

EDIT: Hmmmmmmmmm is not my name though.

The maximum is half your stipend, so unless you somehow get a 2000 talent stipend, it shouldn't matter.

Most you can borrow is half of your income. So unless you had an income of 2000...

I'll sign up as Klin, a large man with young ambitions. (He wants to make a potion that grants eternal youth)

@Maill, hael-

Ah, must have missed that part. My bad. Anyways,

I've got some time. I shall be known as Marcos Mayweather. A student bubbling with interest and scholarly air. Unfortunately though, he seems to not be that proficient at the arcane.

It's strictly before the game starts, so during signups. Once the game starts, you'll have a general idea of your base musical stats. And there's no changing them after that.
