Guys, I won't be able to post much this turn, so I'll try next turn.

Lopen, you sure you still want to do an RP collaboration with me? You currently seem otherwise occupied.

Posted (edited)

I'm really sorry, but I will have to drop out of the game. I am too busy, slightly sick and exhausted. I was looking forward to playing this, but I just don't have the time. I'm sorry.

Dang! Sorry to see you go!

Will he be killed off or just counted as inactive?

Mark, I'm still open. I realize that Acaelus is a bit unwieldy, but I need someone to interact with and no one else has volunteered after Elbereth, whom I turned down for rea sons stated previously.

If anyone else wants to as well, I will gladly accept other human interaction.

Sad to hear that mashadar. Good to have you. Get well soon!

Once I get back from my trip and have more time to write, if you and I are both still alive, I'll take you up on this.

So. Six people were elevated. Obviously we can't know exactly how the eliminators planned it, but it seems highly likely (to me, at least) that at least one of those elevated is a Skindancer. It's almost certain, in fact, because it's a big enough sample size that one of them is almost certain to be an eliminator. But there is a higher chance than usual for one of them to be a Skindancer, basically. This is probably obvious, but I thought it might be worth saying.

Also, I have just realized that we will know with relative certainty who the Masters are as soon as they're elevated. Whoever is elevated four times, that is. This can be mixed up a little for people who put EP in multiple fields, but even so. That's a little weird to realize. It's information, though, so that's useful! But it's the kind of thing that I'd prefer no one know to everyone knowing, just because it's information that's most useful to the eliminators. Too bad, I suppose. We'll just have to make sure those people are protected? Maybe? Though they're also more likely to be Skindancers, so. I don't know. If you can't tell, I'm tired. Sorry for the ramblings.

Wonko, concerning your theory about using Linguistic Analysis to scan people. I think it’s a good idea, but i thought that LA only worked on PM’s? because it says “All you need to do is read a message from someone and you just know if they’re lying or telling the truth”.( emphasis mine) I took that to mean PM’s only, but a GM can clarify. So your theory would work, provided it happened in PM’s. So when someone gets Linguistic analysis, I belive that would require them being in a PM with someone and the other player stating they are not a skindancer in their pm. I could be wrong, but thats what I had thought was the case.

Posted

A GM already did clarify:

How does Linguistic Analysis work?

The Analyst is told if their target told a lie the previous turn. The Analyst is not told how many lies the target told or what the lies were. If the target was wrong about something (like they say someone isn't a skindancer, but that person is), but they believe what they say, it comes up as a truth, because it's true as far as the target is aware. The Analyst is only told about forms of communication they have access to--so the thread or PMs they are in with that person or PMs they've spied on that that person is in.

Ostrich went insane. Another Noble down.  So assuming the Skindancers are going after Nobles, why not another Vintish? They're richer, and definitely at the Horse and Four. Aturans have a chance of starting at the Prancing Pony, so they have a chance of blocking the Skindancers attack. I feel like this could point to either one of STINK or Wonko being a Skindancer. Or that's what the Skindancers want us to think. Or something else that I'm missing entirely.

I also figure that Skindancers are unlikely to vote on each other much, since that not only could take away some of their Elevation Points(through getting DP), but could make their tuition get Inflated if they're brought on the Horns(because being brought on the Horns raises your tuition by 2 talents). Even though you could make the argument that they might still vote on each other some, just because they're trying to help clear themselves a little through this exact logic, I still think overall they probably haven't done much voting on each other.

I wasn't in contact with ostrich at all. I'm not a Skindancer. (I wanted to say "I'm Batman" right here, but I figure you guys wouldn't like that, since it might be a lie. )

Posted

I also hadn't contacted Ostrich at all. Oh, and I'm not a skindancer.

Lopen, the most obvious reason I see for ostrich dying is that the Skindancers didn't want to let us draw any conclusions from their kills. Ostrich hadn't done much in the thread and wouldn't give us any likely suspects if he died. At the same time, it lets them begin to frame(or actually be hidden in) the Vintish Noblemen while still taking out players with lots of access to money.

Marcos was up late in the library. Master Arithmetist had given them a lot of work in terms of assignment.

The stale, damp air of the library felt suffocating to him. The current problem read -'Find all values of 'a' for which both roots of x^(2)+2(a+1)x+a-1=0 are positive. ' Sweat dribbling down his forehead distracted Marcos, making him lift his hand every two seconds. Just a few more steps...

"Finally!" He exclaimed out loud before realising he was sitting in the library. A few angry scowls met his gaze, causing him to go back to work. Why is it that the very air feels hostile when you create a bit of noise? All heads had turned to him. All but one. Acaelus sat in his corner, reading another thick volume. He was engrossed in his books.

I wonder what he'll say if I interrupt him this time....

.

.

(An hour later)

.

.

After finishing his last problem, Marcos made his way up to Acaelus. "Hey there again Acaelus! How's it going? I was just wondering what your were reading. Don't you have any classes?"

Mark, you still have the journal that is at this point in time literally Sev's only character motivation. Please do something with it! :P

"Hey there again Acaelus! How's it going? I was just wondering what your were reading. Don't you have any classes?"

Looking up from his book, Acaelus found Marcos standing beside his corner, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a few books. Wow. His appearance surprised Acaelus. He thought that he had scared Marcos away the last time that they had talked. Then a thought came to Acaelus. Maybe Marcos was willing to attempt friendship with the loneliest man in the University. If that were true, then Acaelus might just have his first real friend here. He couldn't screw this up.

"Oh hey Marcos! Uh, It's going great. I just started re-reading the DragonFire Chronicles. They are said to be the most accurate representation of Dragons in a fictional story, so I was hoping to . . . Nevermind. I do have classes, but I get them all done very early in the morning. If you come here earlier, then you will most likely find me here working on whatever it is that the instructors give me at the beginning of the day. You see, I go around to all of my classes at the very beginning of the day and collect that day's work . . . uh, Marcos, I have a question for you. How many fiends have you made at the University?"

Hopefully that wasn't a bad impression. Was the question at the end too much? Did he stutter? He hated feeling so insecure. If that is all friendship was these days, then maybe he didn't want it. Maybe he had the right idea before, leaving the world to it's own devices and going back to his books. But no, that wasn't a fulfilling life. He had to think back to when he still had Aldon. Those days were magical, weren't they? He couldn't remember.

He had been oh so busy. All this study! It hardly left time for a man to think. But he sorely needed time to think. He had a Plan to, well, plan... Kipper had to be the subject of the Uni's greatest practical joke! He had a list, although incomplete, of his Grand Masterly Masterful Master Plan. But nothing was coming. So maybe he needed someone else's help to come up with a few ideas. So he kept his ears open as he moved around.

Unfortunately, most people are quite normal. Which means boring. Meaning uninteresting and uncreative. Thus most were all quite useless in this Amazing Scheme of his. Finally, his 'patience' payed off, or at least it seemed it might have.

"How many fiends have you made at the uni?" He heard a voice say.

Perfect. A fiend is just what I need!

He approached the two people from where the voice had been, noting this vital second ingredient of Exquisite Revengeneering on his list as he walked.

"Hi, I couldn't help but overhear your discussion of the fabrication of fiends. I find myself in dire need of one, and was hoping that one of the pair of you might advise me on how I might go about procuring one for myself. I don't suppose you have one that might be lent?"

Acaelus turned to the newcomer, not entirely sure what the man was talking about. Suddenly it dawned on him that he must have slurred during his conversation with Marcos. Did he do that the entire conversation? No he couldn't have. Marcos would have stopped him and pointed him out. It must be just the last sentence. Either way, this man must have misheard him. Still, Acaelus couldn't be rude and try to send the man away, he would have to help him in his search. He wanted fiends? Well, he didn't know too much about fiends, but this was the library.

"I personally don't know about 'fiends' sir, but I think I know where you can find some information on them. You wanted to obtain a fiend?" The man nods. "I'd say the easiest way to procure one is through fabrication. They are very rare if my memory serves so if you have the necessary funds, then you will have an easier time making one than finding one. Fabrication of magical, celestial and fey creatures would be in aisle 52 around 37 rows back. Fiends are classified as demonspawn so they would be on the deitties, dragons, demons, devils, demonspawn bottom shelf towards the left. If you want, you can check with Julia, she's the librarian cataloging those archival numerary books." Acaelus gives the man a smile and says, "I hope that I could help, come tell me if you find it alright?"

"Oh, so fiends aren't your forte? Bother, I was so hopeful. You see, I'm devising the most glorious plan to right a societal injustice of the highest degree. A fiend sounded like the most perfectedest thing ever in the history of 42. But I shall go and see if I can't find a book on the matter. I don't suppose you'd also know where to find books on practical comedy? Or how about some creativity. I'm all out and it's detrimental to my cause. But not a word to... Well, you know. Him."

Seeing the confusion in the mans eyes, he lowered his voice to whisper "Kipper, my archnemesis" before continuing on as normal.

"He'll be more unbearably insufferable than he is normally. And normally you can smell it 50 feet away."

Pyra finally put away her book of finances and pulled out her book which contained various songs she had composed and collected. She ended to try and earn her Pipes at the Eolian soon, but she needed to decide on what she would perform. She couldn’t just perform any of her ordinary songs, she needed to find something would make her stand out from the crowd. She couldn’t just be an average musician this time. She had to succeed at this. She knew she would be devastated if she failed. So she was going to make sure she didn't.

She sorted through her songs until she narrowed it down to five songs which she was the most fond of and began comparing them to see which would show her voice off the best, occasionally singing a line or two to remind herself how a section went. She finally settled on a song but she wanted to make sure it was as powerful as possible and to help with that she liked to imagine a story to fit the lyrics, so she often came up with a story based on the song, or perhaps the song was based on a story, but either way she liked to draw a line by line illustration so she had a good mental picture to work from when she was singing. She felt it helped her connect with the song more easily. But it took time, so she only did this exercise when it was for something that was especially important to her.

Pyra began to draw up her illustrations, completely focused on her art, humming as she went. While drawing she was almost completely oblivious to anything that may be going on around her. It was also one of her favourite things to do due to how relaxing it was. While she drew and hummed, she could forget everything that was stressing her out and just focus on being creative.

To answer the question about Mashadar, he'll continue in the game until he gets killed by a mercenary on the streets.

Polite request: please do not edit your PMs to add new information. If we notice people editing PMs (outside of grammatical edits), we'll have to shut down PMs outside of the courier. You don't want this, we don't want this, so let's not make that happen. Send a new PM if you have new information. The PM/post ratio is *meant* to get people talking in the thread more. Not skirting the rules by editing PMs.

Thank you.

An idea occurred to Marcos! Perhaps he could make two friends in one go. He could offer this book of 'Seventh Son of R something or the other' to the newcomer to get him started in his pranks. But then, it also occurred to him that it could possibly get him on the horns, and not accomplish much for him. And, this 'archnemesis of kipper' would only be, predictably enough, interested solely in Kipper's belongings.

"Hmmm... That was interesting, wasn't it, Acaelus? Fiends, I have a few here. As for friends though, they're the harder kind of fiends to acquire. So far, I haven't had much success. So, Dragonfire Chronicles, eh? I bet it's interesting."

Acaelus' face had lit up a bit in the few seconds of speech.

"Say, would you accompany me? I need to go give this fallen book to a nobleman, and I'd appreciate someone there to help me. I get a bad feeling he's going to lose his head..."

-----

There. Loved the fiends part, but Hael beat me to it. So, Kyne, I'm taking you with me to wonko's character, hope you don't mind.

Wonko, I totally forgot about the book part. Thanks for reminding me. Here I come!

Sometime that day, a paper was pinned up above the entrance to the university, the stacks, and the dorms. It read: "I posted this paper to publicly apologize for my inaction towards Varda's predicament. For various reasons, I did not put a stop to her situation, and for that, I am truly sorry, and wish I had. This note is to reduce my regret, and hopefully, receive some small modicum of forgiveness from Varda." The papers were left unsigned, and soon after they were placed, they were taken down by staff members.

See, there's my RP!

I've had more time to figure out who I wanted to vote for, so I'll vote for Mark IV and Burnt Spaghetti.

I do have relatives over though, as well as other RL things, so I might be inactive for a while.

Those are interesting choices, BB, as my (admittedly skimmed) reading of your RP has not indicated any dislike for them. Are you genuinely suspicious of them? Why?

Posted (edited)

So, BBs placed the only votes so far. I do t have much time before I leave and don't know if I'll be on again before rollover, so Sasuke and Touka. Neither of you have posted any game related stuff at all.

For the most part, tuition reduction reasons, but I do have some abilities, I won't say what, that give me some suspicions.
