Mailliw. Adavantos. I saw him on earlier, but he didn't post. He must be evil.

If anyone wants to keep track of who's lurking, that could be beneficial. Right now Kynedath and Elkanah are viewing the page. They have posted multiple times already though, so I'm not sure they can be classified as "lurking." I'm not sure who's online right now, but I am kinda surprised that there isn't more voting going on, even if it's poke voting(it's there for a reason people).

Edit: STINK, LUNA, Hellscythe and Orlok are also viewing SE.

I have to say I'm opposed to any scheme that forces people to kill themselves for the game - it is only a game, and the aim is to have fun, not necessarily to win. If we start demanding that players kill themselves, we have decided to place winning over having fun.

Has it been a trend in the last few games for there to be little actual lynch discussion on day one?

Sure STINK. I'm assuming there's an actual reason, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Adavantos. Burnt Spaghetti.  :D

Yeah Orlok, I'm not suggesting we do it, I'm just putting it out there as a possible tactic, but not necessarily anything I think we should suggest someone do. I also said if we ever did suggest something like that, we shouldn't go through with it unless the player agreed to it. So no one is demanding anything.

Sorry, yeah. I was working on a post earlier for MR11 but got distracted by beer and football. I'll try to contribute during the breaks but we have a lot of friends over so I'm trying to not be a social recluse :P I wouldn't expect a ton from me this cycle.

Lopen, sure you can't bring it back to Mailliw?

I could if I thought there was a reason to, but I don't agree with your reason for voting for him, and I already poked him, so I don't see the point.

Ah. I'm about to go watch the Superbowl now actually. Go Cowboys! Oh wait...  -_-

Bah, can't I lurk in peace? :P

I tend not to vote day one. actually, rephrase: I don't vote day one.

If I can't lurk, you can't lurk.  :P

So what do you do on Day one then?

Sam Flynn, I've heard that you don't drink. You another undercover cop?

Stop burning copper, peeps! Rusting tablet can't detect anything while you're burning it!

I'm voting for Bridge Boy because he said that Kynedath was suspicious because he posted a lot of RP and not much else. That doesn't seem like a good reason, especially because the RP in question occurred early in the first half of D1.

lurk. maybe post once to say I won't vote. then lurk. and I also like to interrogate/question the gm as well. so ive been doing that. You should be used to me by now :P quiet in thread until all talky people aren't talking, very talky and babbly in pms, and dont often vote much.

Consider this a formal announcement of Serious!STINK :P

D1 Posts so far.

  1. Arranae poke votes Ripple for what seems to be RP reasons.

  2. Ripple responds in an RP way.

  3. Araris says he is paying attention but is focusing on LG16 more.

  4. Arranae complains about having to write posts with a tablet. Explains how she will play as her RP character would play, and that purple text is her personal view.

  5. Kynedath RP. States that he doesn’t like D1 Lynches.

  6. Lopen Long Post. 2 questions for the GM. Says that people should make sure to read through the rules many times. Recommends having ‘experienced’ and ‘new’ players go on missions. Talks about how because you cannot use your role while on Mission, it would be good to have roles not go on missions, but that isn’t really possible to organise.

  7. GM Post.

  8. Arranae retracts on Ripple. Expresses suspicion on Kynedath for being ‘reluctant to join.’ Says that we can chase suspicions more if a mission fails.

  9. STINK asks if anyone has played The Resistance before.

  10. Lopen says he has not played The Resistance.

  11. Kynedath has seen it played, but not actually played it.

  12. Anamaximder votes on Arranae for her vote on Ripple.

  13. Elbereth says she will most likely be inactive for the first few cycles, similar to Araris.

  14. Arranae says that the vote was purely RP based,

  15. Bridge Boy RP. Votes for Kynedath. Says that he supports D1 Lynches.

  16. Kynedath asks if Bridge Boy read the link that Kynedath posted.

  17. Arranae supports Kynedath about his consistency. Asks LUNA to say something.

  18. Lopen asks about planning. Does maths. Predicts 3 eliminators.

  19. Phattemer makes joke about not voting because of searching. Actually ‘dislikes poke votes for the sake of poking’.

  20. Ripple is surprised that she is not the only person to watch Tabletop. Talks about corrupt employers.

  21. Kynedath talks about Tabletop.

  22. Clanky says he has played The Resistance about 10 times but never been a spy, and that he is paying attention to the game.

  23. SilverDragon RP.

  24. Kynedath downvoted SilverDragon on accident.

  25. Luna says that D1 Lynches seem pointless, and that it was silly to pick LUNA out of a crowd.

  26. Lopen says that LUNA was most likely picked because she was new and sometimes new players don’t show up. Votes on Mailliw, because he hasn’t posted and might be ‘too busy in a doc’

  27. Mailliw was on.

  28. Lopen is shocked. Asks if Mailliw has played The Resistance before, and if he has any ideas.

  29. Elkanah RP. Wants to be on the mission. Has played The Resistance and Avalon before.

  30. Mailliw says he played Avalon a few days before the signups. Suggests we focus on the group that fails the mission.

  31. Wyrm answered questions.

  32. Orlok asks for if there is anything not so obvious.

  33. STINK votes for Mailliw after talking about how eliminators don’t have to make a mission fail.

  34. Kynedath links an episode of Tabletop about The Resistance.

  35. STINK says who has votes on them and how many.

  36. Lopen asks questions to Wyrm. Says we should pick actives for the missions. Talks about focusing on missions that fail and missions that succeed.

  37. Wyrm answers questions

  38. Clanky RP. Talks about how we can’t only use mission successes/fails to find eliminators. Says active players need to be picked.

  39. Arranae says she wanted LUNA to talk. Does RP about using Bronze.

  40. Elkanah talks about how PMs and docs aren’t in The Resistance.

  41. Lopen says he no longer has questions. Proposes an idea that we can send an inactive on a mission to protect 3 other people, or that someone can commit suicide to protect 3 other people.

  42. STINK says ‘Killing themselves? Sounds great!’

  43. Lopen asks if STINK is volunteering. Says we should guarantee that the suicider will actually commit suicide.

  44. STINK asks where all the votes are.

  45. Lopen votes for Adavantos because he was ‘lurking’. Talks about lurking

  46. STINK asks if Lopen’s vote could go somewhere else.

  47. Orlok is opposed to any scheme about players dying, talks about focus of the game. Asks about whether there has been much lynch discussion in previous games.

  48. Lopen votes for Burnt Spaghetti. Lopen agrees with Orlok, and says that it was only just an idea.

  49. STINK asks Lopen to move his vote back to Mailliw.

  50. Adavantos is being social and won’t be on much for C1.

  51. Lopen doesn’t see a reason to vote for Mailliw, and already poked him. Lopen watches the Superbowl.

  52. Burnt likes to lurk. Doesn’t like voting on D1.

  53. Lopen says that if he can’t lurk, then Burnt can’t! Asks Burnt what she usually does D1.

  54. Arranae votes for Bridge Boy because of his reasons as to why he voted for Kynedath.

  55. Burnt explains how she lurks, posts to say she lurks, and asks the GM questions. Talks about how she is more talkative in PMs than thread.

Arranae [1] : Anamaximder

Kynedath [1] : Bridge Boy

Mailliw [1] : STINK

Burnt [1] : Lopen

Bridge Boy [1] : Arranae

Looking at all the current lynch candidates (there is still quite a while before the actual lynch though), I feel more certain about lynching Mailliw than any other lynch candidate. Arranae was seemingly semi-poke voted on by Anamaximder. Kynedath was voted on for doing RP (really?). Burnt was also seemingly picked at random and also likes to lurk. Bridge Boy was voted on for his vote not being good enough for Arranae.

Mailliw however, has only made 2 posts. One of which was the announcement that he was online and checking the thread (after being voted on by Lopen) and the other to say that he had played Avalon a few days before this game and that we should focus on the group that fails. A mentality that is very useful for an eliminator team to have, as I’m sure they would like us to let them coast by as they succeed missions and kill us off. Don’t forget, the chances of there being a roleless eliminator (to me) is fairly high, and they would want to be on the missions so that they can’t be affected by roles, such as the Seeker (if we have one).

Preferably, I don’t want to be on the mission, as that would not allow me to PM or post. Future Leaders, read that however you wish, as in the end it doesn’t really matter.

I am also slightly worried about Lopen, as his idea about what to do with the missions while helping us to ‘protect’ useful players, is also downplaying how useful the missions might actually be. A contrast to Mailliw, but an important one.

Yo, I'm back home now, so I'll be posting much more. Sorry Stink, that was just a side effect of me being gone for the weekend.

Posted

I'm absolutely fine with people not posting much. I just need content to work with.

So Ada took over Stink's account apparently? Posting summaries and justifying your text.

To keep up the tradition of totally necessary poke votes I'll poke luckat. Hoorah for day 1 productivityh

I have my opinions on how we should do this whole mission thing because I've played Resistance recently but I'll wait until the planning phase until I fully flesh out my suggestions to the thread so I can see who the Planner is.

If it says I'm viewing the forum and I'm not responding it's because I generally leave my computer on 24/7 with at least one tab open if not 4 on SE.

Someone has to take over while I hope that he makes another drunk post...

Whoever you're talking about, please introduce to me to him. You can never have too many buddies to drink with!  :P

Another drunk post? Where was the first?

I'll throw a vote on Lopen for now. This doesn't feel like his normal playstyle. I'll probably be on again before planning stage and I might change my vote.

I'm voting for Bridge Boy because he said that Kynedath was suspicious because he posted a lot of RP and not much else. That doesn't seem like a good reason, especially because the RP in question occurred early in the first half of D1.

I already mentioned that Sam didn't drink because of the many and variable health issues that might keep him from doing his job effectively. And even if he was an undercover cop, he wouldn't be working with the Corps. He hates those guys! Especially Jinteki. Have you seen what those guys do to old clones!?!? They call it retiring them, but it's just a quick trip to the incinerator!

I voted that when there was less than a page of replies, and half of them were alcohol discussion. I had nothing to go on, but I wanted to do something, to be useful, as well as to not be accused of inactivity, as I don't see RP being truly active. People tend to get called on it in the late-game. So now that I have more to go off of, Kynedath. Now that there are more crazy folks running around, you're much farther down my hit(vote) list. I'll probably post soonish with a vote.

Posted

Hmm. okay. two posts in fourteen hours. I'll leave my vote there for now because it isn't likely to matter whether it's there or not, and I do somewhat suspect Lopen.

Posted

Sorry about not posting. I was feeling a bit under the weather and I’ve been preoccupied with RL stuff. I might not be very active this game. However, I’ll at least send in any relevant orders and probably respond to anything specifically for me in the thread or PMs (poke votes don’t count). Hopefully I’ll be able to post a few times each cycle too.

Vote Tally:
Rae (1): Max
Maill (1): Stink
Burnt (1): Lopen
BB (1): Rae
luckat (1): HS
Lopen (1): Elk

I’ll just give post some scattered thoughts for now.

There hasn’t been a lot of lynch discussion this cycle, and there’s a bunch of people tied at one vote. Because of that, it is probably best to let it go to a tie. While lynch discussion and the connections made by who is willing to vote for or defend who is important and lynch discussion with no willingness to lynch is not meaningful, if there isn’t enough discussion then lynching someone at the last minute doesn’t do any good. Also, I don’t think there can be any vote manipulation this cycle since Well-Connected has to choose a target the night before, so anyone who wants to force a lynch would have to vote publicly at the last minute and the traitors can’t just anonymously make sure one of us gets killed, so it staying at a tie is assured.

I think, in comparing the new mechanic to The Resistance, we need to remember that the traitors’ win condition is still the SE win condition of killing enough people to win (although with the necessity of us having enough people to fill a mission, that number is less for them). They don’t have to make missions fail, so successful missions won’t tell us much. It might be better to focus more on the roleblock and untargetable aspects of missions than the success/failure parts (other than making sure the people on missions are active enough to send in orders) unless a failure happens. It might be reasonable to use them to get rid of inactives if there’s someone who doesn’t post or get on for two or three cycles in a row or consistently skips every other cycle or something, but it might be more reasonable to use missions to protect people from the traitor kill or to roleblock suspects. If a mission fails, we can figure out what to do about it then. (If it isn’t due to inactivity, there is at least one traitor among the three surviving members.)

I think it would be good for everyone to be involved in picking teams for the missions. While it isn’t a requirement, if the leader gives their thought process publicly and people make suggestions, it will be less likely for a traitor leader to choose their ideal team without drawing suspicion. Since there is only 24 hours for planning, and not everyone will be able to be on at the end of the cycle, discussion in the planning phase should start early. It is good that there has been some talk about missions already so we have a bit of a head start on that.

@Wyrm Is someone who is on a mission allowed to participate in PMs at night? It’s not mentioned that they aren’t, but I want to make sure.

Good question. I will say that people on the mission cannot participate in PMs. What this means is that everyone can PM for the Planning Turn, but all communication to and from people on the mission must cease during the Night Action Turn.

What about communication among people on the mission? Would that be allowed?
