What happened?

We were supposed to put together a 3-5 minute video on an event. I saved it as the wrong file type. Unless the computer my teacher is using has the same software that I used, it won't play. He doesn't accept technical excuses.

First off, he should have told you what type it should be.

Second, the wizards of the computers always advised to save often, keep a backup and if somebody else is to open it, either know the file type or make copies in various types.

Can't you go to your computer and resave it in another format?

No, none of the school computers had the software I needed. Luckily, my group didn't go today, so I was able to fix it after getting home.

The candidate for my class's ASB president, our representative to the faculty, is running unopposed. Not a bad thing on its own.

It's a bad thing when I remember that our future president is the girl who said "I don't accept gays" openly.

When I remember that she stole and plagiarized my work for a writing project.

When I remember how she lied about it when I confronted her and said she was "just checking" her work.

Yep, that's our president. Hail to the chief, everyone. <_<

Do you have a Gay/Straight Alliance on campus?

If so, can you...ensure they all become members of her cabinet?

Solution: oppose her

I've been getting up every night for the last week to the tune of "Oh Adonalsium, almost a quarter of my life has gone by." Midway through my exams, needing four Cs and two Bs to get into the college I want, Two problems with this ambition - I am only taking seven exams, meaning I can't fail more than one, and I have no idea what I am going to do with my life if I graduate college. I can usually ignore that particular train of thought when I'm up and about during the day, but it always hits me a few minutes after I go to bed. I only noticed it was a problem today, when it became clear to me that I was actively ruining my own sleep routine so I would fall asleep quickly before those thoughts could take hold.

A 2013 statistic said that 425,0000 people aged 15-16 take their GCSEs each year, and only 150,000 or so at age 17. If I fail any of these exams, I'll be part of the 3% that got held back a year from college, sitting in an exam room surrounded by people younger than me and looking out of place. There are people at my school who weren't held back and are still staying until they're 18 entirely of their own choice, but I still don't like the idea that I'd have to re-take exams next year.

Everyone keeps telling me that college isn't as important as people make it out to be, pointing out famous entrepreneurs who dropped out to focus on their companies. There's just one problem with that statement, to me - those entrepreneurs had vision. They had a plan. They knew what they wanted to work on. I, on the other hand, have no idea what I'll do if I graduate college, never mind if I drop out. Mark Zuckerberg had an original, amazing idea in the back of his head when he first went to college, I have unfinished drafts of stories that will probably never be finished.

That face you make when you agree at the last minute to do six extra hours of work and then you make a bunch of mistakes that could cost the company thousands and then you agree to do an extra 12 hour shift which means working 8, 12 hour shifts with only one break and you have stuff, personal stuff, to do as well, like writing, but you're not going to have time to sleep much less do anything else.

That face is my face.

Help.

I should have taken a pic. I was under porch and all I saw was a gray wall of water with flicks of strobing lightning for a good hr. It was beautiful.

Highstorm!

Heh.  No, Kansas City had that last night.

Really, there were tornadoes and everything.  I will tell you all the story of my convention so far in the Random Stuff thread.

(Obviously I didn't blow away.)

Sheesh, spoilers!

Why do you do this to yourself?

Not so much a bad day...but I'm incredibly storming ticked off, to the point I had to take myself away from the situation. So I'm staying with (at first glance) a seemingly alright guy as I'm doing a working visa in Oz and am currently doing my farm days to get my second year visa. So this old guy's been ok these past couple of months, and his wife comes up on the weekend (who's a really nice lady) to see me and the other housemates and say hi and all that. Only...these past few weeks (and due to naïveté, a few weeks back in March) he's been really making me uncomfortable with some really sexist, derogatory, hurtful (mostly about his wife) and somewhat racist comments. Which is funny as she's stinking rich and he's in debt. The thing is, he's only saying this as most of us living here are male....

Times like these I'm glad my faith in humanity is barely existent

Do people really exist like this (excluding Trump). I just....grrr

Sorry, I can't form cohesive reasoning, my blood is seething

Trump pulls them out of the woodwork.

But hey, people who get mad at sexist chill dung - like you - exist too! Humanity has a chance!

......seriously his wife doesn't say anything?!

What happened in March?

His wife might be conditioned to think his sexist, racist chulldung is normal. You'd be surprised how many abusive, disrespectful relationships can last simply because the party on the receiving end believes "This is normal, this is fine, they're treating me better than most people would."

Everyone deserves better than "oh well it could be worse"!!!!!!!!!!

It's a powerful mindset, though. People will stay in the worst situations imaginable if they believe the world outside is more unkind than the person tearing them down daily.

Thing is, I really REALLY want to say something to her, perhaps when she's in Brisbane. But...not my place/business etc. These things really are sent to try us -.-

So, like me, he has other travellers come to stay over the years. In particular he has...a certain penchant for Asian girls. Back in March/April one of these girls likes to come back frequently, and unbeknownst to me, she stayed in his room, and according to him, it hasn't been the first time, as well as in regards to the other some women too. It makes sense that he has, after all the inappropriate comments he makes when she's around but my compassion can be my weakness sometimes.

Woke up feeling crummy. So, per Murphy's Law, today was a day when no computer problem could be solved from my desk, as they sometimes can; I had to get up and go see every one. Not usually a problem, but when I'm not feeling well, it's not fun.

So I come home for lunch, stick my bowl in the microwave, and when I go to take it out, it's a little too hot. It falls, crashes to the floor and shatters, mixing my lunch with broken pottery. I had more leftovers, but it still sucks to have an entire meal's worth of food wasted like that. Plus it scattered shrapnel all over the floor, which had to be cleaned up before Bruce could hurt himself.

On top of all that, I've been gripped by this fear that I'll be let go at the end of my probation. I haven't heard anything bad from my supervisor, but I'm worried he's pulling a Twimom, where there's an enormous problem that he's not going to address until the last minute when he's good and mad and there's nothing I can do. Nothing I've seen of him so far indicates that, and I'm thinking about asking him if there's anything I can improve upon, but then he could pull ANOTHER Twimom where he brings up something that was infuriating him as if I should've known it all along and the very act of asking is an insult to his intelligence.

Yeah, such fears like being let go after a probationary period are part of the adult experience! The good news is that probationary periods don't usually work like that... It's usually just a precaution in case you never show up.

I remember when I was a contractor... I was always concerned my contact would not be renewed or that I would be summarily dismissed! I'm now employed and am concerned about other things ending my employment. It's a pain! ;)
