Hoid-my-beer she/her Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 I haven’t heard of TPN, I’ll be checking that out for sure. So for me I would say.. Peaky Blinders: Cuz if ya don’t know, Now ya know! I honestly love everything about this show! Anyone else?? Oh, I finished Shadow and Bone on Netflix recently. i thought it was alright…the entire concept was pretty interesting: maybe the books are better? And I’m forever watching reruns of Bobs Burgers and Simpsons
urrutiap Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 few things Im watching currently Courage Mountain for DVD on Netflix Im binge watching catching up on some of Naruto Season 1. Im episode 7 or 8 where they fight that water ninja assassin Pretty neat how their "magic" illusions work etc
Eluvianii he/him Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Watched Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop tonight. This movie is, in a word, cute, which is kind of meta now that I think about it. But yeah, it's just a short simple love story. No difficult emotions, barely any conflict, this movie is the definition of slice-of-life. Which is nice, I thought movies were afraid of that. Having two insecure protagonists felt pretty real despite how over the top some scenes can get, and it's just the kind of thing I would watch to cheer myself up on a bad day.
Robin Sedai she/her Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) Taskmaster. It's a hilarious British comedy game show. (I'm told that link goes to their YouTube channel, where you can watch every episode. If it doesn't, tell me.) Edited April 3, 2022 by Robin Sedai
The Sibling she/her Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 What i'm watching right now : Everything to do with marvel. Sherlock A bit more marvel.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Watching Moon Knight myself. So far, it isn't hot garbage.
Robin Sedai she/her Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 The Great British Bake Off. I have no idea why (I don't know the first thing about baking!) but it's surprisingly fun.

I don't really get the appeal for non-bakers, although I guess there is quite a bit of drama.

I think part of the appeal for me is watching people make amazing things, and knowing that not in a million years could I pull that off Bread is not popular in my area, so it's also one part envy. I actually enjoy the (comparatively) lighthearted atmosphere of the show. It gets very tense—which can be fun—but everyone tries their best to be friendly and I like that. Spren of Kindness she/her Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Rewatched The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I did not realize how much of an impression this movie made on me when I watched it for the first time.
Eluvianii he/him Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Watched the first episode of Spy x Family. This is good. This is really storming good.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Been going through the Phineas and Ferb series on Disney+
Eluvianii he/him Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Saw The Secrets of Dumbledore. I really liked it, probably my favorite out of the three. Jacob is great and what else can you ask for, right? While it is weird to have such an important change of actor, this new Grindelwald is so good. As much as I like Depp, I think I prefer the new one by a wide margin. I think my only gripe with the movie is what they did with Dumbledore. Spoiler The Deathly Hallows spends a good chunk of time telling you about how Albus is not a saint, and all the mistakes and morally questionable decisions he's made. This movie follows through with that, with the movie putting some focus on some of the same mistakes mentioned in HP, but in greater detail. However at the very end we're told that he is, in fact, a saint. With irrefutable in-world proof no less. Come on, we don't need him to be the purest heart around, things were fine with morally grey Dumbledore. The movie also has a safe ending which worries me a little. 5 movies were planned, and while the movie leaves enough open plot threads to fulfill that plan, it also closes enough threads to just, stop things now. The ending scene has such an air of finality to it too. I guess things were going to get messy either way since getting all the way to Grindelwald's final defeat means either a big timeskip or rewriting canon (again), and this saga didn't really keep its popularity beyond the first movie, but still, I was really looking forward to that final battle. I hope they do continue. I also watched The Woman Named Fujiko Mine, along with the movies that came from it, Jigen's Gravestone, Goemon's Bloodspray, and Fujiko's Lie. The show is one of the best animes I've ever seen. I mean, it's still Lupin, if Lupin was an adults only show. Like the comedy is still there, the personalities are the same. The completely over the top situations happening after you were convinced the story was grounded in reality are still there. But everything feels just a little too real. It's not the first time this franchise has dealt with killing, human trafficking, human experimentation and so on, but this time you really feel all the weight that comes with those topics and they don't skim over the uncomfortable details. The animation is really unique too, it's like every frame is designed like its own drawing first and a part of an animation last, which despite how it sounds looks really amazing. The soundtrack is a masterpiece too, I just couldn't get enough of it. As for the movies, they were a lot more traditional for what you might expect from Lupin III. The only thing they retain from the show is the rating really, but they are still really good, have some interesting views for the characters, and Goemon's movie has one of the best battles I've seen in anime. They're also connected with one another so it may be safe to assume there's two movies left (one for Zenigata and one for Lupin), so I'll look forward to that. 1
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 We're watching All Quiet On The Western Front in my history class. We're about halfway through, I think, and it's the saddest movie I've watched all year. I'm probably going to spoil it for myself by reading the book, but even still. It hits hard.

All Quiet on the Western Front is one of my favorite books ever. It is also one of the most depressing books I've ever read. I read it for school and just love it so much. It's definitely sad, but it's so well written.

I mean, it's basically history. You can't spoil history. Besides, the movie ends like a movie, so you won't have spoiled yourself by reading the book. Now, reading one of my more popular posts from years ago, on the otherhand....THAT will spoil the final scene of the movie! And hopefully you're watching the older black and white one. If it's the colored remake, then your history teacher has failed you.
SwordNimiForPresident the sword/that sword Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I'm watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It is everything I've been waiting for an more. I've watched the first episode four times already. If you were a fan of the original series, this iteration captures everything that made it great and packages it in a beautifully done, perfectly stylized setting.
Eluvianii he/him Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 After putting it off for an eternity and a half and a rewatch of the first two, I watched How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. What a great way to finish the series. The ending I saw coming, the foreshadowing at the beginning was painfully visible and practically a promise so I spent the thing dreading the ending in the back of my mind. But they put that little beautiful and perfectly logical twist to it that just leaves me so satisfied. Watching a protagonist grow for so many years, even though most of it is through massive timeskips, is a great experience too, kinda bittersweet, and this one really delivered. Best one of the three and I'm already excited to rewatch them all, with the extra emotions that usually come when you revisit a story after seeing the ending.

I canceled my Paramount+ membership a while back but was thinking about re-starting it for this.

I canceled my Paramount+ membership a while back but was thinking about re-starting it for this. I started mine to watch Halo but stayed because of Strange New Worlds. Super disappointed with Halo though. I've been skipping all of Kwan Ha's scenes since the third episode, which means that I skipped the entire episode last week.. such a shame. On a happier note, I also watched Lower Decks which I enjoyed very much. It's honestly my third favorite Trek show now. I was always a huge fan of the Original, but never got super into TNG or DS9 (though I didn't have a problem with them either, just not my favorite). As for the more recent shows, I wasn't a huge fan of the season long, Universe ending threats. I'm totally fine with a Universe threatening plot line, I just want it to be wrapped up by the end of the episode or maybe the next one on a rare occasion. Dragging it out all season and ending every episode on a cliff hanger makes me lose interest. Strange New Worlds brings back the episodic "story of the week" model of older Treks, and it does it with a great cast. Kirk has always been my favorite Captain, but after watching two episodes of Discovery and the one episode of SNW that's aired so far, I feel pretty confident that Pike is my guy. There are a few episodes of Discovery that give some decent context for SNW if you haven't watched that show yet. The most important would be S2E12 "Through the Valley of Shadows" as it is central to Pike's internal conflict through episode one. I also liked S2E8 "If Memory Serves". It revisits "The Cage" story line from the original pilot and takes us back to Talos IV. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 1
StormingTexan he/him Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) @SwordNimiForPresident Perfect thanks! I also am a big fan of the original series (as well as the movies). I am in my early 40s so kind of grew up watching TNG so still have fond memories of that series as well (I wanted to be Will Crusher). I liked some of Discovery but kind of lost interest after a while. I completely agree on the "story of the week" and exploration part of it being the most most appealing so this may be worth renewing although may bank a few more episodes before starting. Edit: Anyone else watch Outer Rage? Just finished it last night. I was intrigued after the first couple episodes but cant say I loved it at first. I really liked how it all tied together at the end though and hope they do another season to answer the rest of the questions. Edited May 9, 2022 by StormingTexan

It is the remake, however, that doesn't exclude the possibility of me independently watching the original. Also, for the purposes of making students who may not take the older version seriously, it was a good choice. While you're right, you can't spoil history, I like to approach things like this blind, since I don't know a lot about this particular story, book or movie. I have no idea if this makes sense or not, but it also helps me connect with the characters, because I also don't know who will make it out, if anyone. (spoilers below) Spoiler So I wrote all the above before finishing the movie... Yeah, glad I waited to start the book. The shock I felt at the ending, without knowing... I ended up crying. We finished today. It's... a really good movie. I'm very sad. I cried into a friend's shoulder and got a headache. I won't be watching it again anytime soon, but eventually, I'm going to watch it all at once. And then watch the old one.
