What if there are three Dula, and they arrange their powers like this:

 

Dula A makes X and Z Lovers.

Dula B makes X and Y Lovers.

Dula C makes Y and Z Lovers.

 

Would they all die then?

Ha ha 

 

Let me put it this way. As a lover, if all your lovers die, you die too. As long as you have at least 1 lover still alive then you're fine.

No, since a pinch hitter simply takes over one player's character and role(s) partway through the game.

Hope no one gets paired with me though. I'm no Aonar (the reigning Dodo), but I just looked over player stats and I realise my survival rates are absolute crem. I'm especially annoyed that Meta's a 'Kill on Sight' player and so is Wilson and they have better freaking survival rates than I do. Like, being me in a game is a death sentence The dice gods must hate me or something.

I would assume so, as it is the player being replaced, not the character.

To be fair, our ability to survive is part of what makes us so dangerous! Last game, I was attacked at least 7 different times in one night just to get rid of me and it didn't work!

I told Maili that you massively deserved the Aggro-Magnet award for that and I've been waiting for someone to take over Being hit 5 times in 2 cycles and dying just isn't as awesome as being hit 7 times in one single night and surviving.

To be fair, that was only before he changed his actions due to atium. After the change, I think he was only hit twice. And since both attacks were spikes, I like to think that they came in the form of Dark Alley cookies and Meta was feeling low on sugar so he ate them knowing what they were but needing the energy to fend off everything else. That might just be me, though.

Technically, in a way, EVERYBODY is a lover with the GMs, since if Tulir and I die the game ends. But in direct answer to your questions, no, the Dula may not pair someone up with a GM, mod, or anyone not playing the game. Only other players are valid targets.

To those of you who have to take off, it has been noted.

EDIT: also, if we have any latecomers, note that you have roughly 3 hours before I'll be closing up sign ups.

EDIT2: @Winter Cloud: yes, what Bort said. If a pinch hitter steps in they take over everything for that character as if they had been that character the whole time.

Sign ups are officially closed now. Look for a PM from Tulir and/or me sometime within the next 24 hours with your role and faction. The game will start tomorrow at 9:00pm MDT (roughly 27 hours from now). That will also be the rollover time for cycles.

Also, after talking with Tulir, we're going to try 48hr day cycles and 24hr night cycles and see how it goes.

 

EDIT: The 2nd post of this thread shows the official player list. Note that I have already designated who the Elantrians will be, since that is public knowledge and could affect the Dula's choice.

Sure thing! I will gladly accept pinch hitters for as long as the game is running and there is the potential for inactives. I'll add you to the list.
