You know, the best part is that being a Dula is far from the only way to troll other players. I'm tempted to make both Wilson and Claincy Pirates and see what happens.

In fact, I'm really tempted to secretly make EVERYBODY pirates AND lovers and watch the hilarity ensue with the first lynching. ;)

Well, considering most people would be dead within two cycles, there's no reason why you couldn't do that.

Also, I can't decide what alignment I'd rather be... they're all super interesting.

So, well done Hero for designing this game (of course, we'll need to wait and see if we break it or not)

Well I guess that means you get to keep your spot at the top of Wilson's nonexistent 'Kill on Sight' list.

I can assure you, the Kill on Sight list is very, very real. Mmmyes, it is :P

You should've kept me alive. But instead, you had to have your minions kills me shoddily. I mean, a spike to the neck? Tsk tsk. That is not a fast way to die. Nor is it painless.

*Ahem* Some of us "minions" have feelings, you know... And some of us "minions" just like killing things with spikes. Including our own teammates (you should try it sometime. It's a rush... Claincy)

And all that spiking turned me into an Inquisitor, so I'm *kind* of a big deal now. If I were in Original Wilson's shoes, I'd tread a little more carefully for fear of a little hemalurgic construct I like to call "Melend"

Actually, been thinking about that and I have a feeling that I might have been the one wielding the spike. We were all involved though.

Killing teammates with spikes? Hmm, I'm sure it would be, course if I'm a cultist and a lover with a non-cultist it might actually be necessary *evil grin*.

(Sidenote: I know I said I wouldn't have time to really play in the early part of the game and have then preceded to post a ton pre-game. I've been sick :( and been resting a bit more as a result.)

Here's some RP. (Mainem, the Elantrian Guard who thinks he's good at fighting)

Mainem yawned. Why did guard duty have to be so boring?

Hours upon hours of standing at the Elantris Gate, across from another guard. Nothing ever happened. The Elantrians were too bestial to leave their city, and that meant Mainem never had a chance to show off his spear-wielding skills. He glanced to the right, staring enviously at Kae's marketplace. Those normal people, living their lives with all of that energy... Mainem wished he could be one of them sometimes.

Sometimes.

But no, Mainem was a warrior at heart. He was needed on The Guard, even if his commanders refused to admit it. His skills with the spear were far superior to those of his so-called comrades. Probably. Plus, his position as a member of the Elantris guard was really good for impressing girls at the local tavern. Those determinations might have carried him through the rest of the morning had the gate not cracked open at that very moment.

Mainem's eye's flickered towards the door. Did I just see-?

The gate burst open.

"Domi's Fire" Mainem cursed, as a shadowy Elantrian barreled towards the marketplace. "Who forgot to lock the gate after the internment ceremony this morning?" The other on-duty guard, Edali, looked at him guiltily.

Mainem moved to block the thing. "Whoa there, hotshot, where do you think you're going?" The man tried to edge around him. "Whoa! Hold up! Whoa!" Mainem pulled his side knife from his belt, half-scared, half-excited. The Elantrian paused for a moment, then slowly, eyes wide, began edging away, back into the open gate. Well, thought Mainem, I certainly handled that situation well.

Then Edali charged in and rammed his sword into the Elantrian's chest.

The beast opened its mouth and screamed. Mainem dropped his knife and grabbed his spear from the wall. Should I use some sort of stance or something? He'd read about stances before, in action novels. Mainem paused, then spread his feet apart and held his spear high above his head. That feels about right. The Elantrian charged at him, Edali's sword still embedded inside of it. The marketplace crowd looked on as the creature bowled over him and ran out into the street. Mainem turned to Edali, cutting his eyes between him and the unlocked gate. One of them would have an excuse to stay back and guard it while the other chased down a feral Elantrian.

A quick game of Rao, Opa, Seo later, Mainem was reluctantly chasing the Elantrian across the marketplace. People were giving the creature a wide berth, dodging out of its way as it stumbled its way down the long, straight road that led from Elantris to the center of Kae. Huffing, Mainem followed.

Just when Mainem thought he could run no longer (who could be expected to stay in fighting condition after being forced to run a quarter mile in heavy armor?) the Elantrian ducked into an alleyway. Mainem ran in to find the beast with its back against the far wall, carefully pulling the sword out of itself. A look of despair crossed its face as it realized Mainem had trapped it. Darn right.

Let's start this off with a little bit of showy spearmanship to put the beast on the defensive. Mainem spun the spear around, tossing it from hand to hand, twirling it like a baton, passing it from one hand to the other behind his back. He tapped the spearhead against the ground and then crisply planted the butt of it against the ground at a perfect ninety-degree angle. Top that, Mainem thought proudly. He had practiced that maneuver for hours at home.

The Elantrian looked confused. It edged forward desperately, clutching Edali's sword. Here we go, thought Mainem.

Suddenly, the creature cried out in pain and fell over, mumbling. Mainem warily walked over and examined it. The creature had stepped on a loose nail and become Hoed.

Mainem sighed in relief and, whistling, tossed the beast over his shoulder. Time to take it to the cremation pyres

He glanced around to see if anyone had been watching. If anyone asks, I used my spear-jitsu to wear it down and then bashed it over the head.

Are signups still open?

Pretty sure. Think Hero's not said they've closed (I don't believe) and the game hasn't started. If I remember correctly, it's meant to start Friday.

Posted

Awful timing, I won't be able to contribute until next Tuesday. Ah well. I'll sign up for the next one.

You could always sign up as a pinch-hitter, if you're interested. In that case, you'd be taking on the role of an inactive player, which means you'd definitely be contributing past Tuesday :)

You'd basically only miss the first day night cycle (a full day-night cycle is 3-4days)

Yes sign ups are still open. They will probably close in about 24-36 hours, and then the game will start on Friday or Saturday (I need to give the Dula time to pick a pair of lovers).

And yeah, as Haelbarde pointed out, that's only 1 cycle you will have missed... ;)

Unfortunately, Vindaw is going to have to bow out of this game.  I was looking forward to playing another one of your games, Hero, but I've had a RL situation come up that's going to keep me from being able to put the time I would need into in a long game like this to be able to do it justice.

Sorry to see you go, but I hope all is well with your RL stuff!

Hreo: I have two questions. One of them is a rather silly but strange question that I never did get to ask Gamma given similar circumstances in a game.

1. Will we know (say, through the write-up) if the Gyorn has chosen an Odiv or if the Gyorn has actually chosen to/was able to convert people that night? I ask because some conversion games indicate when a conversion has taken place.

2. This is the silly/strange question. Suppose, for whatever reason, that there is massive distrust among the cultists and they have reason to suspect someone among them is the Odiv/a Lover. Furthermore, they cannot agree on who is to perform the kill, and they are split exactly in half, which each half supporting one chosen hitman. How is the situation resolved? Does a 'hung' cult simply not get the kill for that cycle, or does the first one to send in the kill order get priority?

Well, in that case then, sign me up as Sheon Idris, just a common grocer.

Ooh good questions.

1. The selection of the odiv and the conversions will all happen secretly- there will be no mention of them in the write ups. However, the converts will privately be told who all of the converts are each day, so it should be obvious to those paying attention that the odiv had been selected once the conversions start happening twice per day.

2. I will leave it up to the Cultists to sort out who to make the kill each night. If I get more than one kill order for the SAME person, then the first cultist to have sent me an order will be the one who actually performs it. If I get more than one kill order targeting DIFFERENT people, then no kill will take place that night.

What happens if two Dulas pair one person with two different people?

A twilight-esque love triangle eh? If such a thing were to happen then if any one of the three were to die it would kill all of them. EDIT: I changed my mind. See below.

Is the shipping over? Can I come out of hiding now?

Signing up as Tehen; he is/was a servant in the palace, with a bad habit of 'borrowing' a few of the exquisite delicacies he's meant to be serving.

So if there was a cross-team match up with one of the pairs, the three would have to work together to win?

Imagine it: the Gyorn, a Cultist, and a citizen of Arelon all matched together.

Why do I have the feeling that I'm going to be the Bella/Katniss/Shallan in a triangle, if one happens?

Heh, quite possibly. Though most of them aren't really manipulative enough...hm...Saffron maybe? ;)

(Just in case it wasn't clear (cos that could possibly be taken the wrong way), in the context of SE that's a compliment to your manipulative skills.)

Actually, I've been thinking about it, and I changed my mind on the love-triangle scenario. A couple of times actually. I decided that it would be a little harsh making it so that if one of three people died the other two go down with them. So I'm ruling this instead: If you end up with more than one lover, you don't take your life unless both your lovers are dead.

So in other words, take the following situation: Bella and Edward are lovers, and Bella and Jacob are lovers. Edward gets killed (yay!). Bella and Jacob stay alive together. If Bella had been killed instead, both Edward and Jacob die too.

This makes it a little less harsh on the players if a love triangle forms

I think we all know where this is going. :P

What if there are three Dula, and they arrange their powers like this:

Dula A makes X and Z Lovers.

Dula B makes X and Y Lovers.

Dula C makes Y and Z Lovers.

Would they all die then?
