well, it's considered a staple for any party with good reason

Pending on the rest of the party, and what books you have access to, i would go with some of the following as backup ideas:

a wizard/warmage (or sorcerer)/ultimate magus combo (warmage packs a battle punch casted spontaneously, and wizard for utility)

a fighter/sorcerer/abjurant champion (focus on buff spells like shield and such to make a pretty beefy fighter type)

a barbarian/bear warrior or frenzied berserker (frenzied berserker for damage, bear warrior for more tankish build. also note that frenzied berserker should only be chosen if the party is willing to live with you)

a cleric/radiant servent of pelor for heal-tastic healing, especially if your DM allows domain spontaneity shenanigans

Be warned: i'm a self-confessed powergamer, so taking too many of my suggestions might make your DM upset with a possible power imbalance

Translation:

a firepower spellcaster

a buffer meat-shield

an angry eyes

or a priest-dude.

About the powergaming: I have concentrated more for roleplaying the character rather than the stats in the past so I think the DM would suddenly notice if my characters turn badass.

EDIT: I only have core rulebooks for 3.5, though I know where I could access others.

well, all the builds i mention above are doable with the core books, though not as to the effectiveness the prestige classes can throw in.

also, don't downplay the utility part of the first build i mention. Utility spells in general will help you out extremely compared to just going full-on battle caster. Lobbing fireballs won't get you past anywhere near every challenge presented in this module.

As a matter of fact, they have done a 4E Tomb of Horrors. I see it every time I go to the Dragon's Keep (famous as the place where Howard Taylor draws Schlock Mercenary.) Of my current group though, only one person has extensive experience with D&D, and they are just barely to level three, so I haven't looked too hard at it.

Also, I would like to announce that I have continued to DM for several consecutive months now, and I think that's amazing!

Yay! I'm a Hoid-in-training.

And personally, I would much rather be closer to Hoid, then closer to Adonalsium. I mean look at the track record of Splinters! Since the Shattering of Adonalsium, Ruin's died, Preservation's died, Honor's died, Aona has died, and Skai has died as well. I mean 5 of the 8 shards we know of are dead! However, Hoid just keeps on living. Oh yeah. Much better to be Hoid. (even if it's just "in-training")

Well, I'm working on some additional pages to be added on the navigation bar. Among other things the stupid "active tab" thing was being fussy. But it was all good. Now I know how to properly code in these weird template files, which turn out to be neither PHP nor HTML, but HTML modded a bit.

I would like to announce that our site's features has actually been useful to me! Seriously, our Brandon Blog mirror is so much easier to find a blog that I want. It's kind of enthralling how the site is slowly evolving to be an awesome resource. (You know, us being more than simply discussing things. I love it, but we need more. And we're getting there)

So I've had an exciting time since I logged off from IM yesterday.

First, my tablet wouldn't boot. Plugging it into the charger didn't do anything, either, so it wasn't the charger's fault. It also wasn't the cord's fault, since the charger charged the tablet dock just fine.

So, after a while of extreme panicking, my brother said that his Xoom has a reset button if you hold down the power button and the volume buttons. So I did that. Then I just held down the power button for a minute. Magically, it came back, and everything was normal. (Except my Gmail widget wasn't on the main screen anymore. ??? )

That was an exciting, terrifying adventure, given that I spent way too much time on that, and I had to get up at 5:30am for work. And after work, I'm starting my drive to Portland. Yeah, ouch. I was a little stressed.

So today, I'm at work. I'm doing some very exciting things for the Mistborn RP. The differences should be cosmetic to you all once I get it going. Anyways, on my project, I edited a template file and the forum wouldn't render. Major PHP error, apparently. I changed back the template file, but the error was still there. Mysterious. I got it taken care of now, thankfully, and the MBI upgrades can go forward.

I just can't edit the Global Template via the Admin interface, or else it dies.

Sigh. Bizarre things.

The world didn't end when Camping said it was going to, but a Pirates sequel came out that weekend. That's kind of like the end of the world.

(In all seriousness, it has a high IMDB rating, and Howard liked it. I'm hopeful I will enjoy it, but judging by the Rotten Tomatoes rating, I will probably have a lot of problems with the movie)
