+Sorana she/her Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 I've made a flag. I mean I applied different layers of cloth over each other, fixated them and afterwards used a piece of thread to highlight the outlines and add a few details. Now I have a seadragon winding itself around a beacon. I have used a slightly similar technique before, but never with the thread for highlighting and never with a picture so complicated. And although there are lots of mistakes, I am really happy how it turned out. Spoiler That's Sorana's crest, in case you're interested. @whattheHoid 5
Sunbird she/her Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 @Sorana Wow, that flag is awesome! I am impressed with your sewing skills. I have some new nature photos to share! A few birds from a pond in Salt Lake City one snowy day (3 photos in spoiler): Spoiler Pigeon: Pied-billed Grebe: Double-crested Cormorant: Snowy mountains seen from BYU campus (2 photos): Spoiler Very smol falcon called a Merlin (2 photos): Spoiler Here he is slightly fluffed against the cold: And here he is YAWNING. Isn't he adorable?? 3

Sunbird she/her Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Got some more bird photos to share! From a local cemetery that lots of birds love (4 photos): Spoiler Townsend's Solitaire. He might not be much to look at, but he's a very pretty singer. American Robin fluffing against the cold: Downy Woodpecker female. This is North America's smallest species of woodpecker. Red-tailed Hawk. I only got this one shot before he flew off because he didn't like me looking at him. From BYU campus, where I participated in a "Christmas Bird Count," a fun bit of citizen science that helps keep track of long-term trends in bird populations (4 photos): Spoiler Woodhouse's Scrub-jay with an acorn. Might be my best photo of a scrub-jay to date. Cedar Waxwing gulping down a berry: Another Cedar Waxwing posing prettily: Orange-crowned Warbler. I swear, this is the dumbest bird name of all dumb bird names. You can never see the orange crown unless you're literally holding the bird in your hand. 4

And I try hard to understand what she is doing for her thesis, but in the end I only get the gist and none of the details. It seems super complicated to me...
