The best thing ever invented associated with the 7 Deadly Sins: The Homunculus. Because they're characters in one of the best anime of all time.  :D

Agreed!  We got off track in watching Brotherhood right around when they're at the wall.  Really need to get back to that...

If that works, the next one is:

WLIU, name five well known and influential introverts who lived within the last century (they can still be living).

Well, no one's answered and it's been several days, so I guess I'll come up with another one.  One possible answer to the introvert question is: Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Steve Wozniak, C. S. Lewis, and  J.K. Rowling.

Alright, WLIU, list eight NCAA men's basketball teams that have been knocked out of the tournament so far.  The longer it takes someone to answer this, the easier the question will become. ;)

What counts as looking it up? I have a bracket for work so I'm keeping track of how I'm doing based on that (since the pool winner gets like $300...but I'm not going to win, sadly, since I'm not doing too great, though I am doing better than last year....), so I can answer it, but I'm not sure it counts, since technically I looked at the bracket, even if it wasn't to answer this question.

I'm with little wilson on this one, I don't think I've technically looked this up since I just saw the new question because I last looked at my own office bracket this morning...so I'm going to take a stab at what I know now without looking anything up to answer it:

1) Villanova

2) Virginia

3) Iowa State

4) Maryland

5) Oregon

6) Baylor

7) UAB

8) Butler

9) SMU

10) Stephen F. Austin

11) Texas

12) Georgetown

13) VCU

14) Cincinnati

15) Ohio State

There are more, but I won't continue.

WLIU, name 3 of 4 "states" in the USA that are technically not states but instead commonwealths. Bonus points if you can name all 4!

As long as you didn't look it up for the purpose of answering the question, it's fine.

My answer is whited out in the next line, not sure if I'm correct though...

Kentucky, Virginia, and Maryland.

Two of three are correct! Nice try. Does that mean you have to post a funny picture?!

I realized, after reviewing your answer, that I've lived in 2 of 4 commonwealths, and if you're incorrect one was actually a commonwealth as well, then it would've been 3 of 4! Now, if only CA and Oregon were commonwealths too, then I'd really be a commonwealth aficionado.

Alright, answers to the commonwealth question:

1) Virginia

2) Kentucky

3) Pennsylvania

4) Massachusetts

New question time!

WLIU: name all four Monty Python movies. And as a bonus, tell us what your favorite scene is from each!

Posted

...and the Holy Grail

Life of Brian

...Yeha, those are the only two I can ever remember. I'm original!

I'm not really that big a fan of Monty Python. I haven't watched it in years -so maybe if I did I'd love it- but so far as British comedy goes, Blackadder is the best.

Even if a bunch of guys on crucifixes singing "Always look on the bright side of life" is kind of funny.

I couldn't remember the last one but previous posts reminded me of the fourth so I'm not sure if this counts as WLIU but...

And Now for Something Competely Different is the last one.

Posted

Sorry all, for my absence, but the Gleeman got the final one! That was, actually, the first Monty Python movie, and they used it a lot as a tag line in the Flying Circus

The full list:

1) And Now For Something Completely Different

2) The Life of Brian

3) Monty Python and the Holy Grail

4) The Meaning of Life

Curiosity, you're right, I guess, that there was a 5th one according to the Wikipedia article on Monty Python, but that was a "Concert film" filmed while making the Meaning of Life. I never considered it a movie, and in fact, the Wikipedia page specific to their filmography doesn't consider it a movie and instead calls it a life show. Gasp! Wikipedia is contradicting itself!!!

WLIU, name the 8 major taxonomic ranks for biological classification.

Hint, I always think of a silly rhyme that my high school biology teacher taught us to help us remember them. Maybe something like this can help you remember too! (My silly rhyme also misses the first rank, which is Domain, so that is a freebie so that you guys can get started. It must be relatively new since I took high school biology).

Posted

1. Domain

2. Kingdom

3. Phylum

4. Class

5. Order

6. Family

7. Genus

8. Species

WLIU, list Kolmogorov's Axioms. (Simplified or original notation accepted.)

Order! I could get all of them except the O, and it was killing me. Though, I wouldn't have been able to get Domain if it hadn't been a freebie, since that wasn't taught when I went through high school bio 13 years ago.

Domain wasn't taught for me either! I only know it now because my twin sister is a 9th grade biology teacher. That's why I decided to give it as the freebie; to help those of us in the slightly older generation.

I always remembered the order because of the following mnemonic (and my bio teacher had a second one that was not at all appropriate for high school students [or this forum], and thus we liked it better):

King Phillip Came Over For Great Soup

Hey. I learned it with "Kings Play Chess On Fine Glass Sets."

I learned another mnemonic for memorizing the different types of main-sequence stars, but ironically I can remember the order but not the mnemonic nowadays. :P

Apparently bio teachers really like kings with those mnemonics, because I learned it with Kings Play Chess On Flat Girls' Stomachs. (I have no idea where my bio teacher came up with this at, but it's a rather amusing visual.... :P )

They definitely do. I learned King Paul Cried Out For Good Soup, and I'm with the generation that never did Domain, but it came up in a philosophy of biology class I was doing recently at university, so I guess there's a 50-50 chance I might've remembered that one.
