MR77 Cycle Three: Weike Up Dead Man

 

Sailors picked their way through ferns and vines. Thunder boomed, and an instant deluge fell on the jungle below. Ignoring the sky's warnings, the sailors pressed on toward the head of the greatshell.

In the midst of the downpour, Wei staggered through the undergrowth alone. When her foot slipped, she stumbled into a demon.

"Stop following me, voidbringer," she slurred.
The blue-skinned man gently guided her to the ground. His eyes were unnaturally large.
"Coincidence, sailor. I'm after that fine specimen you've attracted." Axies the Collector stared over Wei's head. "Yes, it's the largest stupidityspren I've seen in years!"

Wei scoffed. That was a common schoolyard prank.
"Sore throat? And no need for a banker to check your balance." He held up four fingers. "How many minutes do you have left?"
As Wei fell into a coughing fit, Axies revised his estimate down to three.

"At least you'll die in beautiful company." He tilted Wei's head to look downward. "See that? It's like a delicate rockbud."
A yellow flower had emerged from the ground in full bloom. "They wait until the chaos of the storm to extend themselves. Remind you of anyone?"

"I know... I know who poisoned me," Wei realized. "At lunch..."
"You haven't eaten since lunch? No wonder you're sickly." Axies deftly picked the flower and shoved it in Wei's mouth. It squirted a soothing nectar down her throat.
"I can't feel my legs!"
"You won't want to in a minute. Your body's about to die, but you can ignore that temporarily."

Wei began crawling back the way she'd came. "I have to warn them."
Axies lifted a branch, revealing a short trail to an open clearing. "Could you be more dramatic about it? You might call a martyrspren."  
As Wei crawled slowly, her stupidityspren had the decency to disappear.

The jungle ended at the base of Relu-na's neck. The first sailors to arrive had taken cover in the treeline.
In the distance, two figures sat atop the greatshell's head, unbothered by the downpour.

Pladel chewed some bark aggressively. "They're testing our commitment."
"Climbing would be dangerous." Zeek's waterlogged eyebrows fell over his face like bangs. "Waiting out the storm would be sensible."

Pladel turned to her crew. "Listen up! That one's Talik, and that one's the king. Yes, he's a woman, get over yourselves. They want to be impressed. A double share to anyone who pulls that off."
Reluctantly, Zeek shared a similar message to his crew, with more urging to be cautious. A few eager sailors set off to try the ascent.

"Pladel!" Wei emerged from the brush, limbs shaking uncontrollably.

Kol the quartermaster dragged her to her feet. "Show some respect, sailor!"
"I've been-"
"Shove off with your excuses."
"It's fine, Kol," Pladel said.
"I'm poisoned."
"It's not fine, Captain. Without a first-mate, this crew has lost their discipline."
"I told you not to speak of him."
"Apologies, Captain, but someone's got to say the truth. Ever since you killed-"
"Enough!" Pladel slapped him. He dropped Wei, whose body fell hard.

They looked at Wei. A shardblade shimmered into view beside her corpse. 
“Nobody touch that!” Pladel quickly snatched the sword and handed it to the sailor she trusted most, Qian. 

The treehouse in the jungle held a new secret today. The secret of a murder weighed on two girls’ minds. 
They'd watched Qian walk the trail that led back to the ships. They'd seen other sailors follow, asking to see the shardblade. 
Cass had looked away as the men started shouting. Polly looked away when the shardblade was swung. But both had looked back, in time to see a killing blow. 
The shardblade was taken, and the girls knew by whom. 

Plot hooks: Parlay with the king, or investigate these murders!

@Illwei was NKed! They were a Merchant Crew.

@Qianweilian was killed by the sailors (based on RNG)! They were a Merchant Officer.

There was no Rebuke. Enmity is now 3.

What did his action say then? Did you see the NK?

Okay based off the NK it does look like the elims are aiming for control of the thread. Illwei was very active and their death makes it seem like their influence was dangerous. Hoid immediately jumped on Coder when Illwei, the active voice, was removed.

But Coder allegedly said they were a Captain and didn’t know keys could give Favor?

We really need that elim exe to keep Emnity down too…

Is Coder normal more active as a villiager?

Okay, I’m gonna slow down and think through this. There are 9 people alive, with presumably 3 elims. We outnumber them 2:1 if we got everyone in right now. If we exe Coder and he turns out elim then the Favor issue simplifies and Hoid is more or less cleared. If he’s villiage, Hoid played us, we will be at the edge for obtainable Favor and we might lose.

Coder’s response is kinda flimsy too….

Hi guys! I will be much more active from now on- I just got back. 

So, uh, what did I miss? I read through this cycle, but I haven't really looked at the others yet. 

Based on this cycle only, I think Coder is pretty suspicious, but I would like to hear both sides of the arguments before I vote.

The rain was pattering out as X and Y trudged through the Reshi jungle, the moonlight casting shadows upon their steps.

The pair had stuck together ever since their arrival on the island. The sole exception was when night fell; Y tended to spend that time in isolation, lighting the faintest candle to flip through the pages of the journal he had brought. Words written by a man who had walked this jungle, survived these beasts, yet never left these waters. In them, Y thought he could discern the voice of his father.

Last night was different. An instinct - a nag - had begun to pull at Y ever since they had disembarked on these shores. Something had changed in X's demeanor; hardly noticeable, yet obvious to one who spent every day around him. And so, last night, using the key he had taken from the cargo hold - the ranking of Officer that Pladel had given him in secret, without more explanation than a "feeling" - he had broken into the captain's quarters, taken an Alerter Fabrial, and placed it on the experienced sailor. And from there, watched the murder unfold.

Now, witness and killer walked together up towards the Greatshell's Head. They had stayed behind as the others proceeded yesterday, and so while some had already begun to attempt the ascent, they still had space to cover to catch up. It also meant they were alone.

Y's heart almost banged out of his chest as he fingered the tiny dagger hidden in the hem of his tunic. It was hardly a knife; more a sharpened stone. It would do. Y stopped walking. Took a deep breath to still himself. And in one deft movement, threw himself at the figure in front of him. They fell together to the wet ground, sloshing and rolling in the mud. Y came out on top, panting as he pressed the sharpened stone to X's neck.

"Tell me," he growled, low and guttural. Desperate. "Where is he? Where is Evinir Cragborn?"

from my PM with her, illwei was suspicious of coder from C1 because coder told her in a PM that he heard she was a returning player. coder apparently hadn't gone through the thread yet and also wasn't that active in his PM with illwei, so it seemed like the kind of thing that would be revealed in the eilm doc. when illwei asked, coder claimed that he heard this from TUC in a PM

Right, seeing as the game is not 'outnumber/parity with village', idk why e!Hoid would fake-claim. Even if there is a Rebuke because we ML Coder, a first Rebuke is NOT worth outing yourself as an elim.

I'm guessing that was why Coder was pressing so much asking about people in our PM. He was kinda mining me for info, which I thought was kinda weird at the time but didn't follow up on it because PMs closed. He could have also explained it differently than it happened to Illwei, that would explain the discrepancies Illwei saw, though that feels a bit too crafty for Coder (sorry).

I highly agree with Mint here and was gonna suggest myself that we look into the implications of e!Coder, good job Mint remembering that about TUC cause I probably wouldn’t

This place really has seemed quiet since Illwei’s death and we need to keep it alive

Definitely something to look into. I already thought that whole interaction seemed suspicious—now that Coder is almost certainly elim, it looks pretty damning.
