QF79 Cycle 1 - All Under Control

The crowd beneath the Administrator's balcony was already in full panic a good while before their scheduled statement.

“A human-” 

“Are we in danger-” 

“How can the superiority be trusted-”

“Who’s our leak?” The Administrator asked, adjusting the mic clipped to their collar. 

“The doctor that tended to Keeper Murray,” Aire said from beside them. “Dr. Feadra was not told of the origin of the bite. But she began asking about the unusual bite pattern and speculating after the visit. We have her confined and access to all communication cut off, but the scent is already on the wind.” 

The Administrator did not swear–Diones in general did not–but for a moment they looked like they were about to buck centuries of tradition. They refrained, but it seemed a close thing.

“I take full responsibility,” Aire said. 

The Administrator breathed deeply. “Blame will come later. For now, we must wrest back control of the story.” They picked up their datapad, scrolled through the prepared statement. “All under control,” they murmured. 

“All under control,” Aire agreed.

“Citizens under the Superiority! Be not anxious.” 

A hush fell onto the crowd as Administrator Petra began their speech, their voice projected across the square. Aire’s people would be among the crowd, observing. Guards around the perimeter. Aire herself overlooking everything from the control booth. All under control. 

“Of course,” Petra began, “by now you are all aware of the incident at Exotic Species Education Enclosure and–I am not taking questions yet–as your Administrator, I assure you that you are in no danger!”

“The human ate its keeper!” 

“I heard it already massacred the rest of the exotic species!” 

“I heard-”

From the control booth overlooking the square, Aire triggered a low, bassy note that drowned out the individual voices until they stopped trying to interrupt. The Administrator waited until the sound died down. 

“I see the rumors have spread like wildfire. Here are the facts! There have been no deaths! There will be no deaths. The Superiority has the situation all under -”

“-Administrator!” That was Aire’s voice in their earpiece, sounding panicked. “There’s someone in the-”

All the lights went out. 

The crowd began to scream.

“Do not panic!” The Administrator tried to command, but the mic wasn’t working anymore.  “Evacuate in an orderly-” They were cut off as their own guards tried to bundle them back into their office. “I’m alright, I’m safe!” They cried. “Make sure the crowd doesn’t stampede!” 

The screams died down eventually. Petra forced themselves into meditation. They’d never witnessed such chaos, such barbarism. Aire returned to their side, similarly shaken. Someone had broken into her control booth and smashed the systems. She reported some injuries in the panic, but no deaths. And….

“You should probably see for yourself, Administrator.”

Administrator Petra returned to the balcony, where the lights had been restored. 

In the middle of the square, in large, blood-red letters each as tall as a Tenasi, was painted a message. 

The Superiority Will Not Protect You.

QF79: Death and Murder in the Stars has begun! GM PMs should be on their way over the next 10-15 minutes! (Once again, I have a PM with every player in the game >:) )

There will be a vote for removal during this Cycle. There is no vote minimum, and a tied vote will result in a random choice between all tied players. In addition, there is a possibility for kill from the Dissidents to occur this Cycle. 

As a reminder, PMs can only be opened if you have access to Cytonic Communications. If you do, please submit the request in your GM PM and one of us will open the PM for you as soon as we see it. 

If you have any moderation concerns, do not hesitate to ask @Araris Valerian for help!

Oh goodness, retaliatory votes already? What have we come to? Really there’s no need for this level of aggression so early.

Anyways yippee, very exciting new game, there’s absolutely nothing to go off of rn but uh I’m gonna vote Qian as well because wdym, no, the Superiority is wonderful and definitely not xenophobic or genocidal at all! 

Oh side note btw, I will be doing a lot of rp this game so anyways let’s get the ball rolling on that right now!

Azren was shuffling paperwork again. Only today, everything was important. No more small issues. With the events of the previous day, and the escaped human on the loose, everyone was panicking. They signed off on medical leave for several of the injured (though it would need to be delayed until after the crisis was averted, which, they assumed, would be happening quickly), then on overtime for the soldiers, as an increased number of guards would be needed in the halls. Next, they went to work reading the employee handbook for the station, making sure they knew exactly what would be needed in an emergency situation like this one. They had already read it three times cover to cover, of course, but one can never be too knowledgeable. They also made sure additional printouts of the relevant sections were distributed throughout the station. It wouldn’t do for them to be the only one prepared.

Today was a big, terrifying day. But Azren took comfort in their paperwork and in the knowledge that there were protocols in place for this. That nothing could happen to them while those protocols still stood. That soon, everything would return to normal.

I mean, that depends on the power level of the game, we could be in one where most of us aren’t cytonic or have few abilities, or a high power one where everyone has 2+ or anywhere in between.

Cryax readied his ship for flight, disturbed by what had just occurred. It seemed something huge was about to happen. He took off, and soared into the sky.

Yes, there’s a Kitsen planet. It’s mostly ocean and has little islands where the Kitsen cities are. It’s commonly called Evershore, I don’t remember the Kitsen name for it. They’re ruled by a monarchy/empire but are transitioning to a senate system but they’re really bad at it and everyone just unanimously votes against the emperor.

If a player did not receive cytonic abilities, they would not be able to gain any later. I will not confirm or deny whether this happened.

Quoth-Yithuqoth chewed these words carefully, turning them over in his mind, contemplating their meaning.

It did not seem like everything was under control, he thought.

By now, the graffiti in the public square read only "The Superiority Will Not Pro." He felt some lingering satisfaction at that - he and his cleanup crew had been hard at work scrubbing away the offending letters. The supervisor had specifically complimented his efforts before giving him permission to take his lunch break.

But the evidence was still there, so the thoughts stayed with him as he went about his day, like a pebble that refused to be dislodged from one's boot. It wasn't just the message in the square, either. People were on edge. His head-tendrils danced in dissatisfaction.

"Everything is under control."

But why would the Administrator lie? That would be counterproductive. Quoth-Yithuquoth was of lesser intelligence, and even he could see that.

Everything must be under control, then. Whatever unrest was transpiring, the Superiority must have intended it all along. Quoth-Yithuqoth did not understand how that made any sense, but surely it did. Somehow. (Maybe it was all a test? No, again, even he could tell that would be foolish, and the Superiority was not foolish.)

Quoth-Yithuquoth thought that was enough thinking for now. This was all too far above his paygrade. His lunch break was almost over, and it was almost time to get back to cleaning up the Superiority's messes.
