It ain't happening.  I've heard such announcements before, and none of them have lead to it.

Valid position. But usually Sanderson is pretty safe with making any claims. Especially since he knows how much the fans want to see it.

For one, he announced he will now write the sceenplay for it. And second I doubt he would make such claims without having some kind of backing. Like a contract.

I'm sure mister Sanderson hates the original Mistborn Trilogy enough to want an adaptation of it to exist, and enough to write such a screenplay, but I remain hopeful that budgetary, logistical, and time constraints will prevent any adaptation from being finished.

That would make it the second time he's written a Mistborn Screenplay.

That said previously he hasn't had such a large publicity on the deal, this announcement definitely seems like it will go through.

The real question though is whether it will be good or not. That remains to be seen.

Sythrin, I envy you your youthful hype and vigor.  Please don't let my grouchiness dampen your enthusiasm.

None of my predictions have ever been right when it comes to the work of mister Sanderson, so my confidence that it will be terrible and my horrified dread that it might be good (and thus overwrite the trilogy I love so much in the cultural memory and in this fanbase) bode well for you, because things I don't want to happen happen and things I think will happen don't happen.

This is a group of book sticklers, the snobby types that always bring up, "the book was better," in every discussion.

I don't think we'll end up with the movies replacing the books here.

Well, not every discussion. The Venn diagram is probably something like:

Spoiler

The other two categories may be small, but non non-existent (e. g. Princess Bride - way better than the book, The Martian - both good for different reasons)

Look, if mister Sanderson wanted me to be like :D instead of >:|, he'd write 600 pages Of The Set Getting Wrecked or The Liberation Of Obrodai or announce a Bavadin Has A Horrible Day Involving A Wood-Chipper, Twenty-Seven Anvils, Unexpected Enemies With Folding Chairs, And The Realization That She Never Got To Tell Rayse That She Loved Him movie.

I agree. The best case scenario is they’re like LOTR. While many people think that the movies are better than the books (not me), the LOTR community is still massively benefited from the popularity they have. In our situation, we’d probably get more people reading the books, and interacting on the forum. The worst case scenario is that they’re either forgettable or apocalypticly bad, in which case nothing will change, other than the fact Sanderson probably won’t push as hard for future adaptations.

Wait, I actually really want to watch this. Bavadin needs to suffer.

My hope is that it will at least be like the Harry Potter movies: I can like the book, and I can like the movies, but not necessarily for the same reason m

We don't really need to have two separate topics for this, please use the pre-existing one:
