I think my interest in book-lore is fairly proportional to how much I enjoy the book. Pretty sure I haven’t ever looked into the lore of anything I didn’t really like reading. And reading into the lore also tends to make me appreciate the original book even more, so I also can’t say that going off and reading lore has ever caused me to think, “Hey, this is way more interesting than the original.” For example, I read Dune and didn’t really care for it, so I just didn’t go read into the lore at all. I can see where WoT might feel this way to some people, since some of the characters aren’t written that well, and the scale of the plot tends to overshadow them. But LoTR has three of the best friendships in fantasy that I’ve ever read: Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, and Legolas and Gimli. In my opinion no amount of lore can overcome a good friendship. 1
Akimikoisthecutest Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 Katoris sat in the captain's chair. It was rather comfortable. She decided that for the rest of the trip, she'd only sit in this chair. So she traded her stool from her room for the chair. Katoris settled back into the captain’s chair, feeling a deep, spiritual satisfaction. It wasn’t just about the padding—though the padding was world-class, the kind that made you feel like you were being hugged by a very wealthy cloud. It was about the trade. See, the universe liked things to stay level. You couldn't just take a chair; that was thieving, and thieving was for people with no morals and bad hats. But trading? Trading was honest. She’d left her stool in its place, and that stool had character. It had a wobble that kept you on your toes, which was arguably more valuable than comfort if you were planning on being attacked by pirates. Really, the ship’s owner had gotten the better end of the deal. They got "vigilance," and she got "lumbar support." She adjusted her seat, leaning her head back. She could feel the "Captain-ness" of the chair soaking into her through her coat. It was a heavy sort of feeling, like a good thick stew on a cold night. "Right then," she muttered to the empty bridge, her voice taking on a husky, gravelly Importance. "Set a course for that big glowing bit over there. And someone bring me a snack. Something crunchy, but not so loud I can't hear myself being in charge." She frowned, looking at the empty console. It felt like something was missing. A captain shouldn't just have a chair; a captain needed a look. She eyed a nearby clipboard. It wasn't a hat, but if she balanced it right, it could be a very avant-garde visor. It was all about the "disguise" of the thing. If she sat here long enough, the ship wouldn't even remember she was Katoris. It would just think she was the part of the furniture that gave orders and occasionally raided the galley for pickled limes. That was the trick to life, really: finding the right chair to hide behind until everyone forgot you weren't supposed to be there. 2

He opened his mouth, then hesitated. He was on break. The cafeteria lunch line was probably growing by the second… if he delayed any longer, there might be no beef lasagna left. He’s have to settle for chicken. The mere thought of it sent a shiver up his spine. But no. The safety of the ship was of utmost priority. With an internal groan, knowing he would miss out on the best meal of the day, nay, the week, Jaime picked up the keys and turned to the stranger. He saw the man tense, and smiled, jingling the keys in his face. ”Let’s go.” 46 minutes ago, OoklaApologist said: Hi guys!! It’s pretty cool to be able to talk on an AN lol. She remembered a chase over rooftops and a painful spike removal. A few months later she started dreaming about being an obligator and just now she was having a dream of standing over her own body in the street and hearing police horns blaring. She watched as the crowd rushed to her body to check if she was an officer or rebel. She of course knew she was an officer. All the death and suffering scared her. Rather than staging a risky resistance, it was better to join the most powerful organization for protection. Once safe, she could do the work she needed from within to make the world... no, the Cosmere, a better place. After all, that's why she joined this ship. Getting more resources for Scadrial and... Wait, if she kept joining these organizations for safety, how come she kept dying? And why were the police horns getting louder rather than quieter? Fura sat up, those were no police horns. It was an alarm! Noticing for the first time people walking around erratically on the ship, she tapped her Zinc metalmind, using it to shake off the grogginess and get her bearings. Luckily no one here had noticed the small spike protruding from her left shoulder that granted her that ability... the last time a group noticed it they weren't so friendly to her after that. Running towards the bridge, Fura was anxious to hear what the problem was when there was another lurch and the ship's engine stalled for a few seconds before picking up. She paused for a second, creating a list of the things that could have caused that. Either the pilot fell asleep again... or the ship was sabotaged. Right as she had that thought, a piece of metal siding fell right in front of her. That definitely shouldn't have happened. Ravo should be the engineer on shift at the moment best to check with him she thought as she ran towards the engines. Edited January 1 by Furamirionind 2

He got some odd looks in the hallway, but it didn't matter anymore. Nothing mattered unless he could get to the engine compartment. AraRaash shoved the thoughts of betrayal and strife to the corner of her mind. She didn't have too long before something slipped, before Faleast caught on her little game and did... whatever it was he'd done, again. Best to play his game, while she thought. Ara watched as a line of breath ran through the corridors of the ship. Alarms. Urgency. The frenzy of motion. The best way to see how well those safety drills translate into practice. But that line was different. She'd watched the drills before, and that line, that individual, they weren't on the last list. They were headed to the engines that were no longer firing, or at least somewhere nearby. It could also just be someone who had missed the last couple drills, or onboarded recently, or flat out someone Ara had ignored as she played her little game. And regardless, it wasn't her job to report possible stowaways. It was her job to keep all the lights green, and undergo the massive changes in oxygen flow that would be needed soon when something inevitably exploded. But, that hadn't happened yet. And one of the worst things Ara'd found while awaiting her doom was boredom. She idly sketched out a small line into a special board she'd bought from a long place ago, making a sketch of a small spren. Its directions were written underneath, and the drawing scrambled to life and through a tiny gap in the prison she called home. The Life Support Deck, that was. Not the real prison. But that didn't matter. With another hand, she started accessing the intercoms along the pathway of the running individual, keying them in one by one. With another, she grabbed a dusty microphone from an unused counter. "Where are... you running... off to... stranger?" On 12/31/2025 at 7:26 AM, Hoid Slayer said: I would love to learn that lore Whoo boy, how do I summarize this... The original first game I played here, I created a fairly one-note character named Faleast who was obsessed with the Kandra of that game. He was immediately secretly eaten by that Kandra, turning him into a Shadow tied to the kandra (AraRaash) and me into a SK role with... very little chance to actually win. It was a blast, and somehow I made it out alive without winning, and Faleast and AraRaash have been my main RP characters since. Mostly they go around collecting bits and pieces from the worlds of each game (including one featured here), until they somehow managed to steal several Shards or other powerful things from a game I was running because they weren't grabbed by players. Since then, I've been a bit too IRL busy to make many game appearances, and Faleast and AraRaash... well, they may have bit off more than they could chew. (Which I haven't explained much of... I've been thinking about writing up how they got to this point, but as noted I've been kinda busy. TLDR, AraRaash is not having a good time )

He needed to get to the engine control room! "Running? What does that mean?" Smooth. Smooth as the skin on his nose. He took off running again. Ara gritted her teeth as the signal stopped, then began running again. This was an intercom, not a two-way communicator, which meant she had to listen the hard way - by listening to everything. Which was, of course, impossible, but impossibilities were her and Faleast's specialty. At least, they used to be. She tapped into one of the few powers she could carry with her wherever they went, the capability of sense. Something she'd won through blood, and used through bile. Tin magnified a hundred thousand times over. Despite all the experience - all the countless, forced experience - this was something she was bad at. With it, she could hear everything happening in the ship. Engines, conversations, explosions - not yet - and countless else. She could hear it all. Deciphering it without going mad was another story. Well, she may very well be mad already. Faleast certainly was. Make him do it. "Do you mind?" she whispered, aloud this time, pointing at the light. "He said, 'Me? Running? What does that mean?' " Faleast's voice whispered inside her skull. Storming steel, she did miss working together. As one Twinmind. But this would do. Let him pretend. He'd gotten good at it. But AraRaash was born for it. "Hmm. Get his responses, I'll see if I can get him on an actual comm," she said, pinging up the next few locations before sending the intercom to the running one. Still multiple intercoms, in multiple rooms. "Running means... not walking... moving fast... with purpose. Mine is... too keep... the ship breathing... What... is yours?" Then, just for good measure, she queued in a command to shut a door a hundred or so feet ahead. That could get her in trouble with the Captain, if those other lights were people coming in. Some people had good reason to head to the engine room in an emergency, after all. Many of them in a hurry. But, eh, she'd gotten in trouble with captains before. The cold vacuum of space might be nice this time of year.
