Long Game 105 - Night Five: Explanation

I went to the Lighthouse today. I found something. I was lied to. We were lied to.

This is the last I write in this journal. I will head along the coast. I have no boat, but I will swim.

Goodbye.

I increase the chance of stuff permanently after I visit a site once through my maps. But taking me personally along has only seemed to make bad things happen.

I was busy with work and never figured out where I wanted to go/would be useful, and once again neglected/forgot to put in an order.

Sorry about that. Tomorrow I'll explore the village again and see if I get any more information than just "them plant folk do be creepy."

Young Adam had done his best to block out the witch's wrath. He had covered his ears, curled up in a corner of the room, wishing nothing more but for her fury to end. For her gaze to soften, to stop burning. Wished for things to go back to the way they were. His sister had fought the witch. She had hurled her own fury, one not of pain but righteousness. She had stood no chance. The witch turned her attention to Adam, and he felt the fire rush through his veins, but it never burst through. He wanted to fight back, but he couldn't. So instead, he just did as the witch said. As he got up and walked out of the room, he heard a crash from behind him, and the screams. He should have turned around, should have done something. But the fire within him was gone. So all he could do was leave, turn his back on his defender, and let the dark envelop him.

...

In the present, Adam made a different choice this night. He didn't move to sit alone, as he had every day before. Instead, he walked over to the others, intent on making his voice heard. For now, he had something to say.

"I did not leave. I visited the island. And I found something that I believe changes everything."

So, guys, I don't want to divulge too much, but suffice it to say that, yes. I believe I'm finally on track to discover something big about Area X. I'm going back to the village tomorrow, following a lead from the Island (I basically got told I can now find something at the village). I suggest other people visit the island as well.

@Quivil, I don't think you should return to the village. As I said earlier, I don't think the same people should visit the same place, unless you have a good lead (like I do now). Instead, I suggest you check out the Island. Maybe you'll find something like what I did.

The comments about TJ and the lighthouse are ominous, and I suggest a couple people go check out the lighthouse.

Finally, I have come to a realization. If there are various wincons that can be discovered... then that means that the doppelgangers aren't necessarily a direct foil to the people who must discover the secret of Area X. Instead, they might have a different goal. We still don't know exactly what they need to do to win; maybe we're getting all of this conversion business wrong.

And a slightly more worrying possibility; if we can change our wincon, then perhaps the "find the secret of Area X" wincon isn't really... real. It's just a stand-in until we find another wincon to win by. It might not even be achievable.

In that case, I should probably just take advantage of my coast wincon and win easily. But that would be boring, now wouldn't it? So I think I'm sticking around for now, and keeping that as a backup.

Alright. I'll go to the island then.

Edit:

@The Unknown Area Hoid.

After further thought, and remembering Illwei's comment about how hiding information helps none of us, I don't like how he's blatantly withholding obviously important information.

Okay, I see how I look really suspicious

My new wincon has to do with going to the village. That’s not all of it; I’ll probably discover more once I’m there. But considering my new wincon is called “Discover the Secret of Area X”, I would say I’m on a good track.

Long Game 105 - Day Five:

~

LG105 Day Five has begun!

The Anthropologist (Hoid) has been sent back to Central!

Anthropologist: They have been tasked with exploring the manmade structures of Area X and the option of Area X having been human made. When snooping through a player's tent, this player can discover the capabilities of the player's job.

Votecount:

Hoid Slayer (2): Quivil

Things to Note:

  • You can Explore locations today, but voting does not resume until the next turn.
  • Actions can be sent in within your GMPM and must specify a location to search.
  • Remember that all italics are purely flavor!
  • And even the non italicized mechanical text can be misleading without full context.
  • Remember also that it is against the rules to directly quote from your GMPM, only paraphrasing is allowed.
  • Rollover will be in one day at 12:30 on Friday the 9th of May.

Players:

Spoiler
  1. @|TJ| Linguist
  2. @KelsierApologist  @IllweiPsychologist
  3. @The Wandering Wizard Surveyor
  4. @Ashbringer Medic
  5. @Quivil Biologist Team Leader
  6. @Hoid Slayer Anthropologist
  7. @RoyalBeeMage Archeologist

Available Locations for Exploration:

Spoiler

Base Camp

You have arrived, after a now foggy and forgotten journey from the border, to the Base Camp. You found stored supplies to supplement what you traveled with. You set up your tents and equipment, which is outdated due to the proscription of modern technology in Area X.

Perhaps it wouldn't be polite to go snooping through someone's tents, but what they don't know can't hurt them.

Besides, can they really blame you for looking for clues as to their humanity?

Linguist's Tent

Psychologist's Tent

Surveyor's Tent

Medic's Tent

Biologist's Tent

Anthropologist's Tent

Archeologist's Tent

Abandoned Village

The records from previous expeditions speak of an abandoned village in the same direction as the Lighthouse. Not much is known about this village, but the records claim that previous searches proved fruitless.

Perhaps with the Surveyor's newly detailed maps, you can find something more here. The previous expeditions found nothing, hey, maybe you'll be special.

The Tunnel

You have learned some about this mysterious structure, but surely there must be something at the bottom of those stairs or a message in those cryptic words.

Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is perhaps the most prominent feature of Area X. You have been tasked with exploring it and uncovering the information hidden therein. Even if you weren't under orders, you would still feel drawn there. Something inexplicable pulls you. As if its long dormant light were focused on you and only you.

Island Y

Little is known of this island except its existence. It is not considered a priority, but there must be some information hidden in its own smaller lighthouse and village.

Up the Coast

It has been determined that the secret of Area X does not lie along the coast. It is outside the purview of your mission, though you may explore here if necessary

Ooookay.

So, I'm busy, clearly. I also keep finding useless things. So my ability to stay engaged is somewhat limited. That being said, where is everyone :P

Is there a plan? Or just hunt for separate wincons?

I think I'm going to go for the Village again, seeing as TJ found something there, unless anyone else has ideas.

Posted

I think they escaped via a boat as our goal is to just leave this area cuz it's not good to stay in it I think. I'm going to explore the coast or lighthouse and see what happens. I honestly wouldn't mind volunteering next round to be voted out to see what happens.

I've been feeling like crap so I won't be around much

Posted

Current plan is there isn't one, as far as I know.

My ability to engage is also very low right now, and is about to get worse.

I'm going to go for the Island. Maybe I'll find what Hoid was withholding.

I think if no vote is a real vote, then we need to

No Vote

At this point quivil can kill anyone here as long as other people don't vote. I think. I'm not sure.
