Uhh…

another recycle and I still can’t be really active.

Let’s see…

Polly, feel free to abduct me. I don’t really have time to play detective on this one, but fingers crossed for maybe later in the game 🤞

Done! Thanks for letting me know

Long Game 105 - Night Three: Exhaustion

I decided to explore up the Coast today. My notes can be found earlier in this journal. It was largely uneventful. I got as far as I could without a boat to navigate the increasingly marshy land.

I was bone tired from hiking through that miserable terrain when I returned to Base Camp. I was the last one to return.

I found a boat set up in the camp. It looked to have been recently repaired, though it was still quite rickety. Maybe that would be good enough for further exploration up the Coast. After the others had explored Island Y of course.

We sat down to eat, but no one felt talkative. We were all tired from our days’ labors, not to mention the constant stress this place placed upon us. I wanted nothing more than to leave.

~

Welcome to LG105 Night Three!

No-one has died.

No public rules have been discovered.

Things to Note:

  • You may vote today, but all actions will take place next turn.
  • Votes must be placed in Bolded Red
  • Remember that all italics are purely flavor!
  • And even the non italicized mechanical text can be misleading without full context.
  • Remember that quoting from your GMPM is against the rules. You may only paraphrase.
  • This turn will end at 12:30 in two days, on Friday the 2nd of May. Rollover may be weird these next two turns, I'll be at a wrestling tournament.

Players:

Spoiler
  1. @|TJ| Linguist
  2. @KelsierApologist Psychologist
  3. @The Wandering Wizard Surveyor
  4. @Ashbringer Medic
  5. @Quivil Biologist Team Leader
  6. @Hoid Slayer Anthropologist
  7. @RoyalBeeMage Archeologist

Guys, I think the village doesn’t have any discoveries attached. I got, in straight text, a message saying I discovered nothing, and, also in normal text, i was asked if I thought I was special

Lighthouse Result -

Notice a rug that we didn't really check the last time, underneath which is a trapdoor.

Trapdoor leads to a pile of books with the titles the same as our job descriptions - Linguist, Biologist, Anthropologist and so on.

It's the journals of other members of another expedition. We're not the first ones here.

I get an update of Complete the Mission wincon - This is the win condition ALL the players start with.

We kinda speculated it, but its nice to have the confirmation.

Speaking of back burner, probably time to take the exe off of it.

What do you say, Wizard

I mean I can't say that I wouldn't mind being "dead" assuming that it removes me from the thread unlike LG92 :P

Though I would like to explore Area X before I die, I do agree that we should vote someone today.

No, I don’t mind. Ask away!

(Reasoning for Wiz specifically or for exeing in general? Either way, I’ll have more time to actually respond when I’m more fully off work.)

Well I'd like to know your reasoning for exeing me :)

I was right

There's only one thing at each place

Hey Wiz Kid, (who's probly not actually a kid idk just go with the nickname for now k?) does your ability make it easier for others to explore places?

Yes it does, so I'd like to explore area X the next day, as when reading my PM closer it seems the win condition is to explore area X

Honestly if we really all did start as the same wincon, then my reasoning's less strong - most of it was due to D1 wanting to go for Polly + mentioning of teams when most of us I think suspected (but didn't know) that we were all on the same team.

A few other more meta things about D1's results not matching others or mine, but again not sure how much that's a good explanation for anything.

I think Area X is the whole place, including the village and lighthouse and island and stuff, not a single location we can search...

Whew

Okay

I'm here now

Once again, Adam collected his meal and took a seat around the campfire. In the dark. He listened with interest to the actions of the others. They were already throwing around accusations; Adam didn't know if he agreed with that. On the one hand, distrust would only further derail their mission. But on the other hand... violence was thrilling. It meant something was happening. Adam loved when things happened. His mind flashed back to another night, another instance of violence. His sister's broken body, lying on the wet mud, shattered mid scream. Adam was the first to find her. Only 12, he walked past the entrance of the dirty motel, up to her corpse. The tears streaming down his face mixed with the pouring rain. The blood on her clothes mixed with the wet earth. He reached her, and collapsed to his knees. He grabbed her in his arms, and buried his face in her torn blouse. His body wracked with sobs, a pain so heavy it threatened to break him too. And he smiled.

Back in the moment, Adam assessed the others. If some of his coworkers were ready to make assumptions about their peers, he might as well join in the fun. He hadn't payed a lot of attention to the group he was sent with in the first few days, and now that came back to haunt him. But then again, the facts seemed to be that they had all been genuine until recently. Only then had they begun to be replaced. It seemed so obvious. And yet, some of the others were accusing people of things they did before they even had a chance to be replaced. The irony of that caused Adam to smirk. Couldn't they see? If people were gradually being replaced, then the easiest way to identify these "doppelgangers" should be by identifying those who showed inconsistencies in their behavior. Yes, it seemed easy.

Adam's mind was more consumed by another subject. Today, he had visited the village with the psychologist, instead of staying behind at the camp again. The rumors of humanoid beings intrigued him; so he had asked the psychologist to make sure he didn't forget this time. And yet, when they had gone, they hadn't found anything. Just those plants. Those stupid plants. Adam had tried to touch one, and it had given him a headache.

And then there was the matter of the Other One.

Alright. I know I've been a little inactive, but I have a couple key comments to make.

Number 1: This probably isn't that important, but it is something I'm wondering. This is a question for @The Unknown Area. TUA's character seems to be getting more and more involved in the plot, even visiting a location. Is this important in any way? Can you at least tell us if this is something worth thinking about?

Number 2: Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I don't see any way exeing people possibly helps us. I'm assuming the doppelgangers "corrupt" another villager each night. This means that even if we correctly exe one, the amount of doppelgangers won't go down at all. We can never get rid of them. At the best, we guess correctly and do no harm. At the worst, we kill an innocent person and simply lower our chances of victory. So, correct me if I'm forgetting something, but I think the safest solution is honestly to just always go no vote and put our full attention on solving the mystery of Area X. (This is actually why I find @Ashbringer wanting to exe Wiz kinda shady. But even if I think Ash is a doppel, I won't exe him, cause that would just further worsen our situation).

Number 3: Can someone please make a list of everything we have discovered so far? I would do it, but I honestly don't have the time. I think it would just be useful to have it as a resource, and we really need to get ourselves together. Let's say last night, we started with two doppelgangers, a likely minimum number for the elims so we can't wipe them out in their first turn. This night, they get a third member. Now there're three of them. There are only SEVEN players. The doppelgangers already account for NEARLY HALF of us. We need to get our game on.

Number 4:

Hey Wiz Kid, (who's probly not actually a kid idk just go with the nickname for now k?) does your ability make it easier for others to explore places?

How do you know this? Is this related to your ability? Also, if there's only one thing at each place, that gets covered fast. I think its more likely we have an escape-room type scenario, where you use discoveries from one place on another. Which, once again, brings me to the urgent need to compile a list of everything we've found.

Number 5: Finally, here's how my trip to the village went:

Spoiler

1. I arrive at the village with Polly. There's nothing there, but it looks much older than it actually is, and there are vines and strange plants everywhere. There are NO PEOPLE.

2. I try to touch strange plant, but I can't. I just get a really bad headache and a feeling of wrongness.

3. We return.

The italicized portions of the writeups are irrelevant to you. You may roleplay with the character, but they serve no purpose.

To some degree, yes - but generally no. Previous Conversion games the Elims have a limited number of total conversions, otherwise there'd be no way for the Village to win against an Elim team that regularly does their Conversion.

Granted, this clearly isn't just a normal Conversion game, especially if there were no starting Dopplegangers. It's not our wincon to get rid of all the Dopplegangers either.

... but also, if you think that there's 3 doppelgangers and 4 villagers, we need to do something about that. That's hammer range, not to mention half our info possibly being tainted.

Huh. I hadn’t thought of that.

My point is we can’t incapacitate the doppels; there’s just no way, as far as we know.

And as for exeing, is it really worth risking taking out an innocent just to purify our info (something that, again, we will never be able to 100% do)?

Our focus should ínstela be on completing our wincon; exploring area X.

Okay, I don't know FOR SURE that there's only one thing at each place. I do know that when I visited the Inverted Tower yesterday I found the same thing again that I found on day one (and that TUA asked me to please stop visiting the Inverted Tower cause he didn't want to have to write the Crawler scene). Also, TUA asked what I was doing there again.

Another option is that each person finds one thing at each place. I doubt it though, as that would easily cause a jillion problems.

Areas to search:

Tunnel/Tower - Return Anew wincon

Lighthouse - Complete the Mission wincon, and the fact that everyone started with it

Island (Wiz says it'll be easier to get results there tomorrow.)

Village (Nobody's gotten results there yet.)

Coastline (I don't think anyone's searched here yet?)

Camp, with all its subsets (The italics say we won't complete the mission by staying here, but also they're italics, so *shrugs* who knows. Though it does make sense that exploring Area X and finding out what's up with it doesn't happen by staying at camp.)

@The Unknown Area I don't remember seeing anything about PMs in the rules. That means they're not allowed, yes?

The odds are permanently improved for any place I explore I believe.

So the Island and Village are the best two places to search (as in most likely to get results), followed by the Coastline.

(That order only goes for those who, like me, won't get any boost from their power for going to these places. Make your own judgements, y'all.)
