Elan looked at the path. Probably hazardous. He pushed on the ground with his hands, and with a bit of effort managed to pull one of his feet out.

Calm down. He took a deep breath, and the other foot began coming up to the surface, allowing him to pull it out too.

He scrambled carefully to where she was, hiding in the hole. His body shook violently, his eyes wide and breathing fast. He tried to slow it down, sweat still trickling down his face. "Thank you..." He pants out.

She burned another tiny hole in the wall -probably only about a centimeter in diameter- and slid inside so he wouldn't touch her.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"Why do you kill so indiscriminately?"

You were having a flashback, Jidah observed.

Are would be a better term... Elan sent in his head.

He tried to clear the thoughts from his mind. Get in the zone. Battle. There was a battle. He was safe, for now. He would be okay.

". . . Are you okay?" she repeated.

Oh, trust me. I'm never lonely. That's for sure. Never alone.

In all truth, if I got rid of them I'd be missing a major important part of my life, plus the others would be mad.

He held his hands up. Apologies, milady. I’ve seen so many gods and goddesses, so can’t blame me for my nonchalantness.

In barely a blink, his very surroundings changed, like someone flipping a switch.

Mm, much like simulations. I wonder why they’re fighting, Calix mused, observing the armies fight one another. Last thing he wanted to do was get in the middle of another intergalactic war that looked to be on the bottom on his priority list. None of the people looked instantly recognizable, but the very act of war most definitely was. But this is none of my business.

Calix moved away from the fighting, although kept a hand in one of his pockets. Just in case.

”Goddess,” he called quietly, “you might want––” Calix turned to face her, then stopped, raising an eyebrow. Something weighed down on him… something to do with her… is she…?

Shoulda clarified this. They let go of Réva and Elan to fight 209845, and then 209845 kicked their butts 😁

So she isn't restrained... yet

209845 payed dim attention to their conversation. Elan seemed to know things 209845 had no idea existed... something it was used to by this point, but no less intrigued by.

209845 continued to make its way towards the Ambassador, a large dark blob in the other end of the tunnel whose smoky tendrils extended across the cavern. It couldn't do anything against them; but perhaps it could find a way to deal with the Ambassador from up close.

209845 attempted to make its way down the battlefield without drawing attention, but that idea soon dissolved. It took a look at its surroundings; the antiviruses were all busy with the viruses, and the majority of the sentinels were trying to make their way over to the party. The majority. Not all of them.

209845 was able to squeeze or slam its way through the first couple sentinels that attempted to get in its way, but it soon realized that it didn't have the stamina to take on this many. So it called on the viruses, attuning a new rhythm. It didn't like taking defenders away from the party, but dealing with the Ambassador was more important. And Jidah could fend for herself. Pulsing to the voices of the very beings it was born to destroy, it raised its arm and pointed. And the viruses came. Like a flood, they began to abandon their previous targets and tear a path down the tunnel, clearing space for 209845 to continue its march.

...

The Ambassador extended its tendrils, and it Saw. It was gifted with a unique ability no other Cloud member had; the ability to drill into the minds of others, and the cognitive capacities to control them. The Ambassador felt pleasure as it identified its first target; a triple of beings standing together near the mouth of the virus chamber. Individual minds, they united to create a single force. Chaos. Delicious.

With a driving hunger, the Ambassador drove its tendrils straight into the minds of the tri-being. Inside, it was met with vastness. Perfect. It injected a sliver of compliance, just barely enough to get the job done but go unnoticed, and began to probe the depths of these minds.

"GREETINGS," it projected. "OH MIGHTY ONE. ON BEHALF OF THE CLOUD, I EXTEND MY SINCEREST APOLOGIES FOR THIS SITUATION."

As Jidah, Lati, and Calix conversed, with Réva standing by, groups of Cloud sentinels attempted to approach them. The sentinels each had jellyfish-like bodies, but made of the same void-like substance as 209845, and their tentacles glitched in and out of existence. In the chaos of the battle, the sentinels kept being knocked down by vicious viruses, that seemed to instinctually protect the party.

Then the viruses left, rallying to 209845's call.

And the party was left undefended.

The sentinels swooped in like a flock of vultures, circling the four beings. One by one, they began to lash out, testing the waters.

Lights!

Calix’s hand whipped out of his pockets, a good handful of silver bullets flashing towards the sentinels, each finding their mark. Falling into a crouch, his Stimulation blazed to life––his tattoos following close behind––as time seemed to slow him, his speed increasing with each step.

The bullets returned, only for him to shoot them back with another flick of the wrist, the sliver blurs flashing back towards the sentinels. Calix zipped over to a good sized rock, then changed its gravity for him to float in the air.
