Lati quivered with fear.

"It's okay," Jidah shouted. "I'll protect you."

Jidah flared with light. On a utility level, it was to manifest more power so it was more accessible.

But it also felt so powerful.

She doubled, then tripled Lati's armor, spending some extra time to make sure it would stay with her, and made sure to keep pthe connection open and continue flowing power to it. Then She flared again, brighter, and a huge, spherical shield burst away from her, slamming some of the sentinels against the ceiling and shoving the others away. Two waves of blades followed.

The sentinels fell to the ground, crushed. Just as they began to heal, a group of viruses came over and finished them off.

"Am I under arrest?" Oxy asked the voice, locating it. "I... don't think so." He filtered through the time bubble to find any matching to the voice. He cross referenced and created a Time Binding on the voice. He needs to learn more. "Maybe if you tell me who you are, that would help. Last guy who tried to 'take me away' got sent back to a time before the cloud. Do you wanna be like him?"

The voice suddenly froze. The Cloud Megamind, who had taken control of the hundreds of Cloud agents in the chamber and was using them as vessels for its voice, stopped to consider. It seemed the being Oxymoron had somehow regained its sense. Which made it suddenly the most dangerous being in the chamber, no, the planet. These cards had to be played right.

The Megamind called off the Cloud agents, pulling them back to the mouth of the tunnel, and called for a cease to the hostilities.

...

Tired, beaten, weary, yet pulsing with newfound emotion, 209845 watched as the Cloud forces pulled back, and instructed its viruses to do the same. Slowly, the two forces began to peel apart, leaving a rift in the center of the tunnel. In a normal battlefield, the ground would be littered with bodies. But neither the viruses nor Cloud agents had strictly physical forms, and so they dissolved when struck down, leaving the land oddly barren. Nothing left to serve as a testament to the violence.

Eventually, the two forces settled on opposite ends of the tunnel. Guarding the entrance, flanks of Cloud agents waited for orders. Across the tunnel, they were stared down by the only force that they feared; the almighty Oxymoron, standing triumphantly before the rest of the party. Behind even them, thousands of viruses growled a low rumble, prepared to leap back into battle. And dangling between the two armies, a lone statue, stood 209845.

The booming voice returned.

"WE WISH YOU NO HARM, OH MIGHTY OXYMORON. THESE MORTALS HAVE DELUDED YOU; THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. WHAT THE CLOUD IS DOING ON THIS WORLD IS ESSENTIAL TO THE PROTECTION OF THE FRAMEWORK. STAND DOWN, SO THIS THREAT CAN BE DEALT WITH."

Réva's jaw tensed.

She curled up as tightly as she could, anyway.

Jidah made her armor visible, hoping that would make her feel more safe.

Jidah bristled at being called a mortal. She burst into light and appeared next to 209845. She lay a hand on his arm and light leaked through her fingers, healing every 'injury' and boosting his energy.

"You all right?" She murmured.

It sighed, then nodded, not taking its gaze from the horde of Cloud agents.

"I could probably keep a big shield up long enough for us to get away," she said. "The Rift is amazing--- near limitless energy. But there's definitely a radius. It might be better to just... you know, hunker here for a while."

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

She screamed, not knowing what it was.

"JIDAH! JIDAH HELP! JIDAHHHH!"

It vanished.

"Sorry! Sorry, sorry. That's your armor. It's still there, just invisible. It won't bother you!"

"The Cloud would have us by now, if it wasn't for Oxy. He scares them. Right now, he seems lucid. But if he ever snaps again..." 209845 left that sentence unfinished. And there was something else weighing on its mind. Fighting the Cloud, leading the viruses, it was like something in it had snapped. It had felt pain. Not just a simple pain like when it got in a fight with Jidah. No, this was real pain. The pain of burden. In its own moment of lucidity, it had felt alive. But it couldn't figure out why.

And then there was the matter of memories. The memories that the other Cloud agents had, but that 209845 lacked. They were hidden behind a screen of static, blinded. They were hiding something. But 209845 didn't know what.

Spooked, the Ambassador flooded Wrath with an absurd amount of energy, rewriting its Web signature to comply with the Cloud.

THE CLOUD WILL OFFER YOU THE SA-

The Ambassador was suddenly struck with a wave of power. It barely had an instant to react before its surroundings changed, and it found itself-

NO. NO, NO, NO!!!!!!! The Ambassador let out a final shriek as its connection to the Cloud was severed entirely, and its mind slowly disintegrated into oblivion.

...

209845 pushed. It pushed its way towards its target, and with a triumphant surge, burst its way into the Ambassador's inner circle... just as the Ambassador seemed to vanish. 209845 froze, shocked. What? How... and then it turned.

And saw Oxymoron, Primal, bursting with energy. The Cloud forces cowed beneath his might. His light illuminated the cavern, and 209845 felt his form illuminate with newfound strength. For an instant, it seemed like this battle could be won. Then the Cloud reinforcements arrived. They flooded the cavern, and 209845 knew they didn't stand a chance. A voice boomed in the chamber.

"You are all under arrest. Surrender to the Cloud, and you will not be harmed."

The energy immediately dissipated as it entered Wrath.

”Yea, you’re going to try to overload someone with access to the Slumber? No sir.”

Wrath imprinted its consciousness into a pile of stones… making a golem.

Wrath laughed at the reinforcements, and then flooded his enemies with a deep, pervasive dread that seemed to define their very existence, as well as a hunger - a hunger for that which they could not have. Humanity.A

”Think you can harm me?”

Réva heard her panicking and approached. "What's wrong, Lati?"

She was sobbing somewhere inside a little hole in the wall.

Uhh... we kind of moved on from that by now. The Ambassador was defeated by Oxy, and now the sides are at a silent standoff.

The dread worked, and yet the immediate situation did not change.

Wait

no

I saw that

Nonono

The golem was Wrath copy/pasting the ambassador so it didn’t die.

Though I didn’t see the silent stand-off.

Wrath raised a hand, and a raging flame carved a path for him as he calmly crossed towards where the reinforcements came from.

209845 stood silently alongside her, and waited. Two beings, one god-turned-mortal, one Web construct with newfound emotion, faced the horde. They were both contradictions. Their fates trembled on the edge of a knife. And yet, for an instant, this moment existed. An instant that was an eternity.

The Ambassador, trapped in a body of rock, was utterly confused.

As the flame cut down the quiet tunnel, 209845 stepped to the side, opening path for Wrath and shattering the moment. The voice boomed once more.

"Cease all hostilities. Repeat, CEASE. We WILL react with aggression."
