Thoughts raced through Ver's mind, and he fought to isolate the most important information.

"Jidah mentioned something about beings known as 'Sennights'. And wherever she went, it is somewhere away from the Cloud's influence. Only gods are capable of such feats... perhaps the Family will know something of her potential whereabouts. It is the best lead we have."

He looked at Oxy.

"Apologies for my brashness earlier. I am still new to matters of the heart, and I allowed my emotions to overwhelm me. Any guidance on your part would be much appreciated."

". . . The Family?"

Ver's soul sank. It sank, and it wallowed at the bottom of its pit for a while. Until eventually, he lifted his head back up. This was the group that had defied the Cloud. That had fought the most powerful civilization in the Framework, and won. They were not ending like this.

They had to find Jidah. It would be a detour, yes. It might push billions of lives closer to the edge of the precipice. Technically, they didn't need her for their plans. This planet didn't need her. But Ver did. And he wasn't fighting anyone without her.

I don't need someone to RP with Jidah rn, cuz they'll find her in a sec

I have an idea actually

Also, slightly unrelated, and slight spoilers so don't tell Jidah:

Spoiler

I can explain a little further if you like, but basically, most magical powers won't be able to affect the landscape or people there because it's made of something else. Anything self-affecting would still work. Basically, a bunch of powerful beings sealed themselves away from everything else in a pocket made of human souls converted to a substance they haven't yet named, and it feeds off of the people who live inside the pocket as well as some key locations outside of it. I can retcon this if needed and make it a little more basic and malleable, but it could be interesting.

Also, if anyone happens to bring rocks, I mean 🤷‍♀️

but anyway, that's my ideas. It's a world I pulled from another story, so I'd prefer not to change it too much, but I don't mind morphing most of it into something completely different and keeping the bits I've already stated if that's preferable :D

Another person was among them now--- a young man who appeared placid and curious. It was hard to say when he'd arrived.

". . . Hi. Do you know Jidah?"

"Jidah? Yeah, I know her." He smiled. "I'm actually here about her... do you know what happened to her?"

Lati brightened and gasped.

"YOU KNOW HER!" she cried happily, rushing over.

"Where is she!? Is she okay!? Why'd she leave!?" she asked.

Debris fell in through the new hole in the ceiling.

Sigismund stuck his hand in, felt his hand be repelled by the familiar barrier, and cursed to himself. What if I used my watch on the barrier? But he knew that wouldn't work. His watch only worked on physical objects, and he couldn't get through anything remotely magic. Well, I can't go through, I can't go over, and I presumably can't go under. How about I skip forward a few years and see if anything has changed?

Sigismund moved to wind his watch, intending to skip forward in time a year or two, but his hand wouldn't move. What? What's going on?

"Don't be so hasty," a voice behind him said. Sigismund turned, letting his invisibility drop, to see an indescribable man standing on the roof near him.

"Who are you?" asked Sigismund. "Can you help me get in here?"

"That is not what I came here to do," replied the man. "That's a fine watch you have there, by the way."

"You can thank the person who made it." Sigismund paused and studied the man. The maker of his watch, he remembered, had had the same indescribable nature about him. His eyes widened. "You..." he whispered. He hadn't seen the watchmaker in ten thousand years.

"Don't worry, I haven't come to take it back," the watchmaker assured. "I did come to tell you about all the important events going on with your old friends. You're missing out, you know? Why are you even trying to get in here, anyway?"

"Secrets. I can't stand knowing someone has a secret. I need to know... How does this Maker create beings like 17? And how does he create these forcefields?"

"That kind of technology is commonplace where I come from," the watchmaker stated casually.

"You're from another world?" asked Sigismund. "How do you travel between worlds? I've been trying to do that my whole life. Millennia spent researching and exploring. That's how I found out about the Cloud, and the viruses, and how they were the signs of the end of the world. Now they're here, and I still don't know how to get out of here. But you... You've done it!"

The watchmaker smirked. "I'll take you back to the rest of the group. You can learn all of Lee Anders' secrets some other time, I promise you." He pulled out a simple compass, but Sigismund knew it was far from simple. The needle pointed back where Sigismund had come from. "Shall we?"

Then, they were gone, and the villagers could rest easy once more.

Good thing for Sigismund, Anders was about to show up and trouble would have ensued.

“If they’re gonna expose themselves so blatantly, they may as well try to save the universe too.” He smiled. “It was good to meet you, Lati, but I’d better go.” He shoved his hands in his pockets and headed for the cave entrance, whistling as he went.

I was kind of hoping the end of the world thing was well... the end of all worlds... but if Jidah's universe does not count as anything and... well... I guess it would be better to explain how the end of the world exists and how it works. It is also known as: Time Infection:

Spoiler

It is a Time infection that wants to destroy the universe. It send out Pods throughout the timeline and infects people and things. It can do much with the infection, except infect more things. Nearing the end of the timeline, the infection flares up, and starts abosorbing. EVERYTHING. It all just becomes more fuel for it. The Primals are like beings who took that infection and decided to make use of it. They can... contain it, in a way.

If you still think it would be better for your world to be invunrable to it... I guess? But like... It infects things.
