Ver waited patiently. For once, he felt no looming threat of the Cloud approaching.

Ver nodded, satisfied for now.

”Then take us to this ‘Custom’. Our time is running.”

Ver neglected to mention the hidden reason he was excited to interact with divinities once more, a reason he was still attempting to understand himself. Perhaps they could help him recover his past. Perhaps they could help him finally figure out what he was.

He shrugged. “Okay.”

Reality faded out and neatly faded back in— no fanfare, no flash of light. Just a quick fade, and then they were standing in a dark room.

The floor beneath them was slightly sloped, as if they stood on the outside of an enormous sphere. A ceiling high above showed a display of stars, though there was something muted— almost separated— about it. The room itself stretched on a long ways, completely dark.

“They’ll be along in a moment,” he said.

Ver stumbled, surprised by the unusual transition

This was nothing like the usual teleportation involved in the deployment of a Cloud agent - a simple message through the Web. No, this teleportation seemed to bend reality rather than changing the subject. Interesting.

”Where… are we?”

“And, I believe, speak with you on another matter of consequence. But yes.”

The woman turned to the group. In order to proceed past Custom, you must give up certain powers for a time. We would store them here until you leave the Pocket. We will not forcibly take them from you, as long as you are peaceful. Be warned—- attempting to trespass the Pocket while in possession of focused ability, or attempting to use such abilities here, may result in unsavory outcomes.

". . . Is Jidah here?" Lati whispered.

She felt distinct disapproval from the woman— not directed at Lati, though. She is currently on the surface. I believe last I saw her she was sniveling near the Jaerfen Desert.

She didn't like that. She snuggled more tightly around Rèva's hand.

She regarded the invisible Lati critically. A question indeed. You, dear one, are made of exactly the kind of energy we generally quarantine here until the return. But your energy cannot be separated from you, so another solution will have to suffice.

Ver thought for a moment.

”I don’t exactly have power ms I can give up. If it helps, however, my connection to the Cloud is blinded.”

”Uhh… sure?”

Ver still remembered the way this being had  walked down a Cloud army. But maybe… if was time to stop judging people by their ability, and start seeing them as individuals.

Does Reva have any abilities?

No. However, we may be able to bend some rules in exchange for a donation of energy. All we require is that she not melt anything with her self.

Jaerfen Desert… Surface…

”Have we… left Açila?”

The Star laughed. You underestimate us. In order for you to pass, we would leave you with little beyond physical prowess. We’d give it back at the end, of course. Though a tiny donation would be greatly appreciated.

And yes, you have left wherever you were before.

Good morrow, the Star greeted. In order to pass, you will have to temporarily give up your power.

Huh. The Cloud hadn’t put up any resistance to their exit at all. Of course, they were probably eager to get them off world, but it was still a little worrying.

“Well, you must understand, I am not exactly… physical.” Ver waved his void-flesh arms. “What could I possibly give up?”
