Also, whether she is or isn't right now is completely irrelevant unless Adolin dies and she survives him, and the whole "Male character dies, is survived by love interest who secretly got pregnant right before he dies!" trope is super lame. If one were to agree that Shallan married Adolin for the wrong reasons and Adolin is most likely going to become Odium's champion, then Shallan's pregnancy could resemble something similar to Allriandre/Ruri in TLM. Quote from TLM's 3rd epilogue: Spoiler Allriandre pulled her daughter close, and thought for a moment about her choices. About how the best schooling in the city didn’t mean much when you were in debt to the wrong people. About how something you loved so much—like the girl she held to now—could also be a reminder of one of the greatest mistakes you’d ever made. ... Until Ruri understood that mistakes could sometimes turn into amazing, wonderful, cherished things. With the right perspective.

Though I absolutely love the thought that she might be pregnant. Yes. I'm with this very logical and straightforward thought process. Sure, she could be pregnant and I'd be excited about that, but I think people are jumping the gun way too fast here. 2

Because this is exactly why shower scene can't mean anything in regards of Shallan's possible pregnancy in this book. As you said, maximum what she has right now in this case is fertilized egg. And even if it really can be seen in Shadesmar (I don't know what Brandon thinks about it, so I won't speculate), Shallan won't even notice she is pregnant till the end of the book. Even if her cycle is as accurate as Cusicesh the Protector, it will take 13 days at the very least for her to start being suspicious, unless Rosharan women physiology differs greatly from ours. And why even add this scene, if, as you said, we've seen two more sex scenes in the previous book and Almighty knows how many we haven't seen. But we know for sure there were plenty, as Shallan is very eager for this side of their relationship. So the shower scene can be either a fanservice, or a "goodbye sex". I really hope it's the latter, because in regards of the former, unlike Ala, I do, unfortunately, have a stomach. 1. We have no idea when someone gets a soul. It is at least a possibility that happens at conception. but more importantly. 2. They’ve been married for over a year. They have had plenty of time to conceive a child. And also 3. They have access to the spiritual cognitive realm and so can probably figure out someone is or is it pregnant sooner than we can. 2

Only “evidence” to this point is Sja-anat saying she wants a safe world for her children, and then adds Shallan’s kids in an attempt to show they are on the same side. Not nearly enough evidence for people to be as certain as they are about this 3. To strengthen the argument, people have added that it happened right after shower sec scene. Some of us have tried to show how the shower sex scene makes no sense because it’s way too soon. I get people want Shallan to have a kid but this was just a wild reach, and so quickly too for just one line that I personally think is being way overblown
LewsTherinTelescope Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Personally I don't think Sja-anat's line is literal on her part either way, just that it could be Brandon winking at the screen in the way he's known to do. 1
the_archduke Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 (edited) Bumping this because I was right. Their children are going to have such weird hair. Also, I hope she's carrying twins. Edited December 9, 2024 by the_archduke 7
Necessary Eagle she/her Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Where did it say she was pregnant? I missed have missed that part.

I forget the exact spot but she thinks about it and caresses her abdomen after being stranded in Shadesmar Edit: chapter 147, she “cradles” her stomach after realizing she can’t get back, then a few lines later thinks with determination that she will survive, “not just for herself..she had to.” Edited December 9, 2024 by NattyBo 3
TSweezy Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 That kid is gonna have some strange early memories with Cryptic babysitters... I'm excited to see what it means to be Kholin in the future with the two Bondsmiths out of commission. 3
Ookla she/her Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I'm mostly just excited to see Shallan exploring Shadesmar and the Cosmere with a kid (or two) in tow! Though... given what I've learned in my early childhood education classes this semester, there may be some developmental oddities if you have a child growing up with two Cryptics for godparents/aunt and uncle and a dad who can only talk to them via seon. That will be an interesting plot arc to watch! 1
