Confused Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Chapter 10 reveals a LOT about the Fifth Oath. Kal and Syl seem on their way to becoming Soulmates in Physical Realm fact. Their flirting makes me re-think what the Fifth Oath’s “merger” of spren and Radiant really means... 3
Ookla she/her Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Hmm... I hadn't thought of that. Syl is as hilarious as ever, though, and I'm honestly a bit excited!
BinarySecond Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 It's a theory I've had for a while. Based mostly off Nale saying 5th Ideal becomes the law, a little bit off the Honor spren saying that killing Kaladin pre-5th ideal would release Syl. I think Nale was being literal. A permanent bond with the high Spren - Becoming one with the spirit of law. 1

IIRC, that wasn't that Notum said. He said that killing Kaladin would free Syl in any case, but that before the 5th Ideal there was a way to dissolve the bond _without_ killing him. 2

Killing Kal would always free Syl, but there are some other ways to do that which will work only before the 5th Ideal. OB ch 108: Quote “Not too late. Killing you would free her—though it would be painful for her. There are other ways, at least until the Final Ideal is sworn.” 1
BinarySecond Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Ah my mistake. I'd still be game for this theory to play out though. I do recall Nale summons his Shardblade in front of Szeth. But there's the other theory that he broke his oath and it's a dead eye. Not sure how realistic that actually is though.

Not sure how realistic that actually is though. His spren is confirmed to be alive: Spoiler Stormlightning How the heck is Nale's spren still with him? Is his spren as wacky as he is? Or is it dead, and he still carries it around? Brandon Sanderson Nale's spren is alive. The highspren... I would say "wacky" is probably a decent term for them. I would blame some of how Nale is acting more on the highspren. Obviously, it's partially being a Herald and all the things he's gone through, but they're all on board for this. So read that as you will. Well, "all." The ones that are making Radiants of the Order are on board for it. You'll get to see Szeth interact with his just a little bit. There's not a ton of Szeth in this book, but you've got a few chapters. At least one, for sure. And he gets to interact with his spren, and you'll get a better picture of the highspren from that moment. San Diego Comic-Con@Home 2020 (July 23, 2020) Besides, regardless of the WoB you'd think the other highspren would notice if it weren't. 1

Through the Living Shadow he/him Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 But when Dalinar sees nales bonds, he doesn’t see anything bout a spren bond, does he?
