JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 So I've been wondering something while re-reading TLM. What happens to Hemalurgic Spikes after they're brought back from the Set? Are they just locked up in a Constable evidence locker while having their charge slowly drain away? Do the Kandra confiscate them to keep the secret of Hemalurgy? Do the Ghostbloods nab them while no one is looking? I'm just curious since after Wax and Co got finished ripping the Set a new one, what happens to all those dozens of precious, power granting, Non-Trellium spikes?
Treamayne Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 I'd guess we'll find out in Era 3 (since it was not covered in the Epilogue(s) for Everyone) 2
JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted November 6, 2023 Author Posted November 6, 2023 Something I also noticed was that the Set had awful amount of A-Chromium and F-Gold spikes. Leechers are meant to be somewhat rare and surely people would notice a large kidnapping of Bloodmakers?
Njvodin Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 I'd bet the Ghostbloods managed to nab some spikes, but most likely most of the rest of the spikes would be kept by the kandra, as (iirc) Sazed doesn't really want Hemalurgy to be rediscovered by the general populace. 1

I think Trellium spikes went to universities to be studied by scientists, while regular ones remained in police evidence lockers or were confiscated by Kandra (unlikely, they weren't Kandra Blessings, unless Harmony ordered them to take those spikes). We will see how Hemalurgy is used in Era 3. 10 hours ago, JustQuestin2004 said: Something I also noticed was that the Set had awful amount of A-Chromium and F-Gold spikes. Dozens of people were kidnapped in AoL to create their little Metalborn breeding pot, I guess they gave birth to some of their own Donors for spikes. Moreover, the Elendel Basin and the Raughs are quite big, it's easy to miss a person missing here and there and realize those were all Bloodmakers. Who was also the Leecher except for Dumad and Telsin? The scientist Irich from BoM was likely a natural Leecher (they might have spiked him before he died). 1

It was also technically possible to manufacture them while Miles was around, correct me if I'm wrong, so they could (theoretically) have had more than average supply of either or both type of Gold power spikes. 1

This is technically true, but they'd have to think of it as a possibility first of all (which is probably not that intuitive) and they'd have to convince Miles that it was something he should go along with. So I find this somewhat doubtful, but it certainly could be an explanation Brandon could use in the future if he ever needed to explain why the Set had so many F-gold spikes. 11 hours ago, alder24 said: I think Trellium spikes went to universities to be studied by scientists, while regular ones remained in police evidence lockers or were confiscated by Kandra (unlikely, they weren't Kandra Blessings, unless Harmony ordered them to take those spikes). Desperate times call for desperate measures, after all.

I also theorize that Discord may be a force (whether an Avatar of Harmony, an actual, fully autonomous Spren, or merely a corrupt Sazed) that will push the northern and southern Scadrien continents towards war. War is Ruinous, after all, and Kel did ask Sazed to bring them into a new technological era. Though horrendously costly, WW 1 pushed humanity to new technological heights, so the same could be true for Scadrial's future- war could, essentially, be that factor that pushes Scadrien society to change, which is something in SoS he mentioned he made a mistake on before, allowing humanity to escape its troubles to easily.
