Last night, my workplace ran a major upgrade to various systems.

Half of our systems are now not working.  Everything is ruined forever, IT and management are running around like madpeople, and I can't do many of my regular tasks.

Ah, well.  It's not like I really needed to do any work today...

My workplace is usually very good with system upgrades... but, then again, we actually TEST them and have an exit strategy just in case.

T...test?  Test...the systems?  What is this madness of which you speak?!

(Actually, they thought that everything had been tested on this version.  They were wrong.)

You have no idea how true this is at my workplace... How many times have we come in one morning to find out nothing is working because IT did a system upgrade???

Last night, my mom asked if I wanted her to keep looking for jobs for me. I said I'd go with the ones she gave me, but to stop. So what does she do today? Sends me a posting for the University of North Dakota....in the payroll department. Maybe she meant it in a more friendly way, but what I see is "Hi! I know you told me to stop, but I think you're so desperate you need to take anything, and too dumb to find it on your own." <_< And of course, if I were to confront her about this, I could very well prompt a "You need to get on top of things, and you haven't been on top of things" lecture.

Please, please pray/hope/send out good thoughts that I get a job soon. I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Edit: Okay, it looks like there are a few library postings on that page. Still, I asked her to stop, and it wasn't that long ago either.

I hope you find a job to your liking soon. Who knows, perhaps the lucky one will be on your mothers page

I'm going to apply for some of them, since I'm not really in a position to pass up a job opportunity, but I wish she'd trust me to find jobs on my own.

Bah, once you'll get a job, it won't matter who found the add.

If this keeps on, I'll move to US, start a company and employ you :P Or, why don't you start your own business?

I'd say progress has been made! Though I know it's frustrating given you asked her to stop, it sounds to me like she has. She didn't apply to the job for you, like you were saying she was doing. Instead, she simply sent you a possibility, and is leaving the judgement of applying or not up to you. If anything, it sounds like she's trying to be nice, though it does seem to be in a rather passive aggressive way. Just keep looking on the bright side of things!  :)

I never said she was applying to them for me. I think that might be illegal.

Thanks. :) I was so sure I was going to get the job here in town, but now that it's no longer a possibility, I'm stranglely excited. I could wind up anywhere.

You're like a baby spider, whisked away on the winds on your little silk parachute to parts unknown! :D

...Or maybe an example less likely to trigger arachnophobes. But you get the idea. :P

Well, it was far less cliche than "like a baby bird about to leave the nest," so that's something. :P

This simile makes entirely too much sense for someone intimately familiar with the Reckonerverse! :P

I'm like someone booking a trip at a travel agency run by Purple Phoenix, who we all know is liable to randomly change the destination based on which personality is in control at the moment?

That works. I also would have accepted saying you're like a pug: Awesome and beloved by Sharders. :D
