"Things are more . . . complicated with the Elves, I can fight with you personally, but our race as a whole can not go to war without our Goddesses blessing, so, I may have authority to act on behalf of my people, but I will need to petition the High Priest before we go to war." Ari said.

"Don't worry though, She does not like evil sparkly lizards."

"Yeah, but still... it's not like being allies will help much in the long run. Unless..."

Paprika's wristbank bleeped profusely, the little red light flashing at the end. She frowned and tapped it a couple times to open it up, displaying a hologram right above it.

Breaking News: Dragonic Empire declares "Culling War" between fifty nation-systems...

Humanity's Last Stand? Presidents system-wide to conduct an emergency council...

24-hour apocalypse livestream goes viral when Hollywood hearthrob Dina Halbrok declares her retirement in the wake of this new disaster...

She scrolled through all the newsfeed to reach the actual stuff: an official update from HQ. It was a voice recording by the general himself, sent to everyone in the military:

"I'm afraid there's no time for pleasantries here. All units - I repeat, all units - are to be put on active duty by 0900 tomorrow. Until the Council can come to a decision, we're putting every major city under martial law to prevent any chaos; you will receive your orders momentarily from your section commanders. As it stands we know frighteningly little about how this war is going to operate, how allies will follow through in the late-game, or even if we're allowed to make ourselves some alien friends in the first place. Until further notice we will assume any uncharted or unscheduled arrivals or departures by alien life to be a threat, but do not engage anyone unless absolutely necessary - take them into custody for the time being, but we're hoping the shooting won't start at least until those damn lizards actual declare the start of this war.

"That's all from HQ, and, uh... may the Force be with you."

The transmission ended with a bleep, leaving Paprika with mixed feelings. Was she supposed to take everyone here into custody? Were the citizens of every world really about to go on city-wide looting sprees? Since when had the General been a Star Wars fan?

Uen, caught up now, listened intently. "I realize I was not invited here, but from my point of view, I think our best chance may be from the utilization of the magic.

"Just think, with just a small grasp of Spacebending, I was able to transcend time, arriving at a place decades in the future, completely unchanged. Think of what we could do with the other two forms. Who will want us as allies if we bring so little to the table?"

He stepped back a smidgen. "At least, that's my opinion. I could be wrong, you are all likely more experienced in these matters."

Paprika looked confused again. "You can time travel?"

"He shifted forward. Even the most powerful Dragons cannot travel backwards in time. Think of it as him sleeping, only not aging in that sleep."

Atikskrakkaitak turned to Uen. "You are very lucky the Dragons did not notice you. They like to study Timebenders."

"My people would welcome allies, as we are but one system. Strictly speaking, the home of my race was folded into the Dragon's empire long ago, but my homeworld is an independent colony system. We have interstellar capabilities, through use of Spacebending, but are fewer in number than most systems in our sector. We have been expecting something like this, though. "

"I... don't think we stand much of a chance. Any of us." Paprika pointed upwards, vaguely in the direction of 'space.' "That dragon said they've done this kind of thing before, right? If there are any records at all of those instances, then the more advanced systems would probably be aware of this since long before today..."

"Alright. Well, we'll need time to think this over. Keep in touch - here's my disclocator signature..." Paprika tapped her Wristbank a few times to print out a handful of round metal chips. "Pretty sure they'll work universally, but this Bank's a slightly older model... I'll keep you guys posted."

The idea is that the chips can be inserted into communication devices to channel Space Magic :TM: and send messages/signals nigh-on instantaneously. Basically it's Space Skype

Stardate 88701, Van'Haik Era - 1/14

(May 21, 2061)

Paprika stood guard at the Old Capital, set atop an ancient cathedral as she watched the empty streets. Mostly empty, anyways - every once in awhile a patrol would march down, often followed even by a light assault vehicle or two. The next set of citizens were to be allowed their open hour in just a few minutes, which would mark about the halfway point of her shift.

So far the leaders of the United Worlds had been quiet. Two whole days since the announcement, and not even the smallest hint of a decision had been made.

Due to various IRL circumstances, I have to become inactive on the site for two years. You are welcome to use Atikskrakkaitak as an NPC, and I fully expect you to encounter his race, the Skkraaakiskakkkraitk.

Atikskrakkaitak took the small metal disk, and calmly entered his shuttle. Just in case, he set up a program that would return the shuttle to his main ship before the docking pass expired.

Ari tapped her finger on her desk. She was only a little nervous.

Here in her office at the United Worlds Building [?], she had sent her appeal to the High Priest. He hadn't responded yet. She was in a difficult position herself, no one was quite sure what they should do with her. For now though, sitting quietly at her desk and making (monitored) phone calls was fine with them. It was difficult for Ari to sit and wait, patience had never been a strength of hers.

"As... that said, time travel is a misnomer. The proper term would likely be stationery relativity. According to every test we performed, it is impossible to go backwards in time, though we were unable to discern the reason for such. Now..." He trailed off. They had disappeared. He sighed. He would have to become used to this existence.

This matter was troubling. A culling war. They had guessed at a higher civilization being responsible for the messages in the past, but Dragons? A mythical creature made flesh. Perhaps too flesh my Uen's standards. Eugh. Fleshy dragons were never something Uen that his eyes would be cursed with.

Alright, what's going on plotwise?

Finally - Davie came to take over her shift. Lunch break. Not that she wasn't hungry, but she was excited for another reason.

Paprika rang up her new elf friend. "Heya, I'm on break."

@Justice_Magician

"Paprika! Hallo! How are you?" Ari continued without waiting for a reply, "I 'ave called the High Priest, but he hasn't responded yet, so I'm waiting now, what exactly are you breaking by being on it?"

She was very excited to talk to someone friendly.

"Everything's... fine here. I guess."
