"Marilyn!" he exclaimed. "You're okay!"

Marilyn smiled a little. "Well I mean everything hurts, I can't shift unless y'all have painkillers, and I'm still cold. But I'm alive and I got here on my own so I would count that as being okay."

Yup. I fixed it.

"We'll need to get our hands on a sample or two, for starters. In light of this discovery, the Bereau of Agriculture and Vangari has recalled and stockpiled most of it from regular homes like this one. Only museums and certified collectors have any at this point." Kris pointed out to the north. "There's one such sample over that way, but I'm not sure what the best course of action would be to retrieve it."

"If the plants are magical, does that mean the tea is too?"

"Ask nicely?" suggested Silver.

"And if that doesn't work we could try to buy it from them." Marilyn made a face. "And if we really needed to we could steal it."

"Hopefully we don't have to steal anything. But if we do..." Cufre glanced at Tacien a bit guiltily. "He'll know where it is and what's protecting it."

"I hope we don't have to either but if we do... if I know all the details... I would be able to get in and grab it pretty easily."

"The issue is, he can't really communicate the details to you. The most he might be able to do is draw it, but you won't be getting a labeled diagram or anything."

Marilyn nodded. "I figured. How about we worry about crossing that bridge later? If it even is a part of our journey."

Kris looked aghast. "This is just research! Why would we steal anything?"

"I don't know. It was their suggestion, in case asking or buying didn't work."

"Gods..." The kinds of people Fadran finds nowadays...

"Well, if you were to be researching the magical abilities of the plant you would probably need to run some tests right? And it would be really hard to run the tests if it's in someone else's care." She looks Kris in the eyes. "I don't want to steal it. I stopped doing that sort of stuff as soon as I could and I don't want to go back to it. But if it were necessary we could do it. And it would end up being returned,"

Tacien had made another drawing, this time depicting a cross-section of the plant and a view of the internals.

"I'd also rather not steal anything, myself. How important is this research, exactly?"

"We just want a head start on it is all. This really is a relaxed sort of research mission compared to the likes of the things I used to do."

"Well, who has the sample?" asked Silver. "Do you think they're the kind of people who will take pity on us if we ask nicely?"

Tacien handed Kris the drawing.

Cufre raised an eyebrow. "What kind of things did you use to do?"

"All sorts of insane things. I've stolen some of the most incredibly well-guarded documents and specimens ever known to sentient life." Kris smiled a little at the memory. "But that was a long time ago. My back can't take anything crazy like that anymore."

"It's a local merchant leader. He doesn't technically have permission to keep it, but the local law enforcement respect him enough to turn a blind eye."

"So... is that a yes or no to Silver's question? Do you think you can convince him to give it up somehow?"
