GM Thoughts:

Distro:

Spoiler

I liked this distro to some extent, I thought it was slightly village sided and I agree with that still. I expected the elims to be caught up one to two times, likely one explainable one, like a heal, and one less explainable one, like a scan, or in this case, a roleblock. It turned out that the protect was on an elim every turn, but a different future was certainly possible. Truth didn't get used, but I don’t think it would have caught the elims up most of the time, although it would have been a lifesaver for this game's village. I think Truth is slightly worse for the village than Watchfulness, but I would like to hear thoughts on that. Two Silences was interesting, one (Archer) went slightly gung-ho and silenced someone every turn. The other (Tani) started off the game with (paraphrased) 'so my role's useless for the village isn't it.'

Roles:

Spoiler

Silence: It didn't get much use this game, and I doubt it would for most QFs. This is a better role for a long game or evena MR.

Steadfastness: I am, while not dumb, very confusing. It is something that has hampered the villagers and the elims in the first and the second games respectively. I think having this clarified for the future will help immensely. I do like this role, and I will be keeping for future re-runs.

Truth: It is probably the best role for both teams other than Death, it isn't the best role for each team on it's own, but it's a mediocre role for both whereas most roles are more one sided.

Mat (luck and Player interaction):

Spoiler

We had some insanity with this game elims were caught cycle 2, and an elim managed to survive a fifty fifty choice, then change his story completely, along with the complete and total pocketing of villager, in order to end the game a cycle earlier than it ever should have. We also had the one role that could have saved the village from the mess they were getting into be inactive. All in all, the elims managed to talk their way out a bit of bad luck, then walked into some good luck with inactivity, then talk their way out of the still rather bad situation they were in, all the while distancing like insane to stop the village from finding the last elim even if Mat had died. PMs were used, although not as much as I would have liked given the silence role. All in all, this was an awesome game. Can't wait to run another.

Lack of information only helps elims.

Lack of pocketing, however, would be quite useful.

Though how I'm supposed to find the pocketing attempts is beyond me.

Maybe this role would be more useful if the elims could ONLY talk in PMs, not in a doc, or if the silencing worked on docs too.

I think that Silencing Mat on principle would have been a key to village victory, among several other things.

Silencing doc talk would simply send the elim planning conversation to a PM. If both were Silenced, I'd worry that it'd lead to a situation where one elim has to call all the shots, which is akin to mayoring of that group.

I was using it to prove I wasn't submitting the kill, which could have led to some PoE elim finding. But I agree it would be better included in a longer game. Maybe make it so they can Silence say 20% of living players' PM use, so your impact isn't backloaded. 1 of 20 players feels pointless, but 4 of 20 is impactful. Later, 4 of 10 is overpowered, but 2 of 10 feels about right.

That was not purposeful, and if I had been on, you would be dead.

Actually, with your vote the VC would have still been in my favor:

  • Mat (2): Bort, Tani
  • Bort (3): Mat, JNV, Thaid

;)

To be fair, about half of my interaction with Thaid was already in a PM :P.

Congratulations to the elims for winning, and thank you to Experience for running the game!

As always, if anyone would like to try their hand at running a game, please get ahold of Wilson, Devotary of Spontaneity, Elbereth, Araris Valerian, Elandera, or StrikerEZ, or post in the GM Signups & Discussion ThreadNot only will we get you added to the list, but we'd also be more than willing to help out in any way we can.

You can also ask questions and get some hints and feedback from everyone in our Art of Game Creation thread. With all the games that we've run so far, we have plenty of experienced GMs that can help you refine any game you're thinking about. If you would rather keep some detail secret, or are self-conscious about posting in thread (there's really no need to be; while we do slaughter each other, we are very polite about it), then I'm sure one of our fantastic committee members (Amanuensis, STINK, Sart, Fifth Scholar, Straw, Archer, and Kasimir) would be more than willing to help you out in private.

Thanks again to everyone that played, and we look forward to killing seeing you in future games!
