Three Pacis were collapsed onto the ground in moments. Aligning the daggers in her fingers to hit all three in the throat had been simple enough; she hurled a fourth down at the approaching officers to make sure they were bent on stopping her.

Someone fired a warning shot. She couldn't see who from around the corner. Elya drew her sword, retrieving the nearby daggers for quick access. With luck, nobody would be putting any holes in her today.

Raviid smiled thinly. "How subtle do you want to be about this? I've got a few broad concepts."

Ji nodded. “Yeah, we could do that. We could be subtle.” He then grinned wickedly and looked at Verim. “Or…”

"Just try not to hurt them more than necessary, alright? I'd like to avoid any fatalities." Raviid stepped around the corner, slowing each guard as soon as they entered his line of sight. Keeping alert, he began walking towards the nearest one.

Posted

Ji rolled his eyes. "That's no fun," he muttered to himself.

He peered around the corner, watching Verim silently before following as quietly as he could. He frowned slightly as the guards began to move slowly, as if their very actions was trying to walk through molasses.

The guard nearest to Raviid had been yawning, but was now in slow motion, unaware of Raviid or Ji coming up on him and his comrades.

Raviid calmly disarmed the man, then removed his jacket and used it to tie his hands behind his back, gently lowering him to the ground as he did. "I'll take the left side. If you would follow my example on the right?"

Ji grunted in response, already working on the other guard.

They barely took notice; if they did, their reactions were very slow, if barely noticeable.

More Pacis were running around the corner now, readying their weapons and firing at her. Elya sucked in and pushed out breaths, fine-tuning her muscles' precision, feeling every disturbance in the world around her. She weaved between bullets, slashed across soldiers, and caused as much general chaos as possible. Most Pacis couldn't account for a Mystic who could jump off walls, capture the wind, and avoid any attack they threw at her. She wondered what it'd be like, for the last thing they saw to be the momentary flash of a blade.

Movement. On the roof.

Elya pivoted, kicking back against the street. A throwing dagger--just like hers--sliced through the air and just across her forehead. The pain was distant and weak, but it was there. A second too late would've put a hole in her skull.

A bullet zipped by her hair. She'd made a mistake, diverting all her attention away. Ducking into an alleyway, Elya reassessed the area. Just a few moments was all she needed--several around the corner over there, a few more approaching her alley, and then the newcomer on the roof.

Another dagger. Elya dodged this one easily. No time to waste; she ran back out throwing her own daggers at the nearby Pacis and scanning the rooftop for the newcomer.

Oh. Great.

One of His Highness's personal Mystic warriors stood there, watching her with a cocky grin.

The officers that had been keeping an eye on Lyanör seemed to decide that she wasn't a threat at the moment. They ran inside to where the commotion seemed to be coming from. Lyanör followed close behind, taking care to not be noticed.

The Mystic jumped onto the road, hitting it with a loud crack. The shooting stopped for a moment as he strode towards her. He was shorter than her, but by no means weak-looking. Light skin, golden eyes: Medietas, for sure. Elya would've said he was handsome, but the unlevel shorts were a bit much. He could've at least worn a shirt.

"I'm Altei," he said, voice chirpy and arrogant. "You?"

Elya looked for a weapon. She couldn't see any, other than his daggers. There was something... off about this one.

"I'll tell you later." Elya said, facing him with her sword.

He shrugged. "Alright."

Then Altei ran at her with arms ablaze, suddenly engulfed with flame.

Taking smaller hallways, but still progressing towards the sounds of fighting, Lyanör eventually ended up in the hall perpendicular with Elya. Surprisingly, no guards had stopped her.

Yes, I know it's overly convenient. I'm awful at writing fighting so I'm avoiding it.

She peeked around the corner, confused by the unfamiliar burning man with Elya. Feeling something like a coward's guilt, she stayed put, choosing to avoid putting herself in danger rather than trying to help.

A Chaos Mystic. Of course. He seemed like it.

They worked by distraction. But Elya was trained better than that. A flaming warrior running right at her... that would terrify any normal person into freezing or running. Not her. Altei was exposed. She waited for a moment, then simply held out her blade for him to run into.

He jumped over it without any hesitation.

Oh?

Elya pivoted. She slashed at him, but her blade glanced off. For a moment between the strike and his fall, Elya could see a hard, earthen shell around Altei's arm.

He hit the ground. Slash. Another clang. Elya swung her blade again and again, three times in quick succession, hoping in vain for some kind of weak spot. Each strike was knocked aside, leaving a dusty cloud from where she'd hit him.

They both stopped. Elya slid a step back, and Altei pulled his face out from behind his arms. His arms and chest were caked in a tough earth, now with a couple slice marks from her katana.

"You're fast." Altei noted.

"So are you." Elya meant it.

The stone slowly creeped further and further across his arms. The bit on his chest stayed around the same size for the time being. Altei moved into a fighting stance. Elya steadied her blade, just watching him for the time being.

He held up a finger, then started running at her.

And the gunshots resumed.

Raviid quickly repeated the process on the other two leftward guards with a speed clearly born of practice. "I can hold this for a good while, but not forever, so let me know when you're done."

He grunted again, reaching down and snatching one of their key cards off their belts. Ji strode past the slowed guards, swiping the card on the keypad, which turned green and beeped happily in response. The doors unlocked, then opened for him to a different world where he could make a difference to this horrid police force. Ji grinned wickedly, and walked right in.

The stacks of weapons seemed to go on forever. There was an assortment of them, ranging from handguns to rocket launchers to explosives. How this particular outpost had rocket launchers was a mystery, but he didn't particularly care right now. He trudged past the guns to the explosives, his grin becoming wider by the second. So much he could do with these explosives.

Ji looked up at the shelves, placing his hands on his hips and pursed his lips. It looked like he was shopping for a pair of shoes, if they could combust with the press of a button. He could just steal some of these and maybe use them against their creators, but where would they put it if he managed to bring them out? But, on the other hand...

"Hey! What're you doing in here?"

He turned to the new voice, scowling at the Pacis officer in that bright white uniform. The officer began to tremble a bit when he recognized who he had just yelled at, but still held himself as if he were the only important person or thing in the room.

"Oh, you know," Ji responded with a shrug, his veins beginning to glow. "Just browsing."

Ghostly blades emerged from his back, zipping towards the Pacis. The Pacis, in return, cursed loudly, fumbling for his sidearm. The blades didn't aim to kill, though; instead, they began to chip away at the Pacis, who was still scrambling to bring his gun up to try and counter the blades.

Ji sprinted towards the man, more blades appearing as he ran. The Pacis cursed again, leveling his handgun up to where Ji was coming from, pulling the trigger. Ji felt instinct kick in as he immediately ducked, though he still felt bullets imbed and nip his exposed skin. He grunted, but continued onwards, which made the Pacis curse again, but he focused on the blades that kept nicking him.

Reaching the Pacis, Ji didn't use any of the blades at point blank; he, instead, kicked the back of the Pacis' knees, sending the Pacis to the ground. Before he completely fell, Ji snatched the pair of handcuffs from his belt. He scowled again as he stopped the blades, looking down at the Pacis, before kicking his head. The Pacis screamed in pain, but didn't fall unconscious; Ji didn't care, though. He lowered to be on the Pacis' level, then managed to pick him up and set him right next to the shelves with explosives, cuffing both of his hands to a pole.

Ji went to the shelves, picking up one of the explosives and began to arm it carefully. It beeped like the keypad, completely oblivious to what Ji was doing. He went to the shelf, finding another keypad and pressing a few buttons. All the explosives on the shelf beeped like the one before it. Ji picked up the remote that hung from the keypad, syncing it with the rest of the explosives.

He walked back to the Pacis, who was squinting as he looked up at Ji. Blood dribbled down the side of his face as well as from the cuts and nicks from his blades. The Pacis grimaced, then looked up to where he was cuffed to and his eyes widened.

"You don't know what you're doing," the Pacis said to him, true fear entering his gaze and voice.

"Yes," Ji said through gritted teeth, finalizing his entry and tossing the explosive on the Pacis' lap, "I do."

The Pacis thrashed against the cuffs, screaming at Ji as he causally walked away, remote in hand.

Ji walked out the doors to the keypad and pressed a few buttons. After a moment, the doors closed and locked themselves, beeping with confirmation. Ji turned towards Verim, clutching the remote tightly.

"Let's get out of here before they notice," he said, gesturing to where they'd come from.

Elya was dodging around bullets and rock-coated fists, dragging her sword through wherever she could fit it. Her katana clanged against Altei's rocky outsides, neatly nullifying her sword at every opportunity. Only once or twice had she left a slice on him: with the Pacis still shooting at her, she could only focus so much on dueling the Mystic.

He fought back viciously. Every swing of the fist came closer and closer to her as she swung left and right, defending and attacking each in turn. Ducking and sliding around each bullet just let the Mystic come closer. She needed to take out those Pacis if she were to stand a chance against defeating Altei anytime soon; with a breath, Elya risked a moment to throw a dagger at one of the shooters.

Altei rammed his fist into her stomach. Her surprised shriek caught in her lungs as every ounce of breath knocked out of her, and Elya hit the street with a sickening scraape.

She couldn't breathe. Breaths dashed in and out in a panic.

He strode towards her, wiping a bit of blood off his fist. Had she gotten cut too?

The Pacis she'd attacked fell, but all the others leveled their weapons at her.

Well this was bad.

Ji gave him a glare. "It'll hit them where it hurts," he said, turning to walk out then motioned towards the slowed guards. "Now let's go before they realize what's going on."

Posted

"Sure, sure." Raviid took a step forward, stumbling and bumping into Ji. "Sorry, this must have been taking more out of me than I realized. I'll catch up in a second."

Posted

Ji glared at him again, then sighed. "I'm not leaving you alone. That's a bad idea," he decided. "But do try and hurry."

Posted

"I think I've gotten it out of my system, actually. Won't be but a moment." Raviid took a few steps back and flashed the keycard he'd lifted off of Ji. "Please don't make an altercation out of this."

Posted

"I don't want any more death. Call me selfish, but it's a preference of mine." Raviid swiped the keycard, opening the door, and stepped inside to deal with the cuffed man.

Posted

Ji rolled his eyes, but didn't leave, only standing outside the door as he twirled the remote in his hand.

The cuffed Pacis continued to thrash against his bonds, a stream of curses following not that far behind. He looked up at the newcomer, sneering at him.

"What?" he spat. "Come to torment me like your comrade?"

FYI - Ne’ik is a really good fighter. He couldn’t beat three Mystics at once, of course, but that takes a special kind of talent.

Yeah, I don’t plan for Saaphir to beat him, he’ll probably realize that he’s got the wrong person in the middle of the fight.

“Who the Blight do you think you are?”

“Uh.” Saaphir said. “Did you not hear my epic, dramatic line? I’ve been working on it for weeks! Ugh. Never mind.” Saaphir lunged forward in a strike.
